Amorous Adventures Text and Player Dialogue Revision

View File

Description

This mod revises the text and player dialogue in Amorous Adventures 3.4 SSE for LoversLab. All playable content is covered. It is an .esl-flagged .esp.

For a version compatible with other variants of AA (Clean, FlowerGirls, OStim/Osex), click here. Please not that the NexusMods upload does not include edits to quest journal entries, i.e. text that appears in the quests menu, as they make the mod incompatible with anything except the LL version.

Philosophy and Changes Made

DISCLAIMER: The following section contains my personal opinions and is not meant to be taken as objective criticism.

Amorous Adventures has a great foundation for expanding on characters, giving them personalities, and introducing romantic storylines for the Dragonborn. I'm a fan of the concepts that FoxFingers came up with. Personally, I find the writing to be too silly and unrefined, to a point where it detracts from the quality of the storytelling and limits the applicability of the writing to a variety of characters. Changing the questline structures or NPC spoken dialogue is beyond me, but I revised all player dialogue and text (books/notes, quest information, message boxes, spell/NPC/item names). Here is a sample video:

Changes are outlined below:

Spoiler

General

  • Fixed grammar* (capitalization, missing punctuation), revised wording for better read quality, removed immersion breaking lines (real-world references, modern sounding verbiage, overly pornographic statements)
  • Removed all instances of "Sex Magic", replaced with general references to spells of a sexual nature
    • Renamed "Circle of Sex" spell and effect to "Carnal Circle"
  • Renamed "East Empire Company papers" to "East Empire Company Documents"

Revised Books and Notes

  • Uniformly formatted names
  • Edited the Reachman song, made it rhyme and flow better
  • Renamed "Secrets of Telvanni Sex Magic" to "Secrets of Sensual Magic", changed the author's name to a lore-friendly dunmer name, completely rewrote the text
    • These two books were awful, filled with cringy writing and references. There was no salvaging them, I cut everything and wrote some brief lines that sound like they belong in a magic tome and provide the necessary information.

Revised Player Dialogue

  • No more "milady"-type stuff. I'm not sorry, fedoras.
  • Tried to eliminate cringe content
    • I can't think of a better way to describe this. All writing that was trying too hard to be funny or witty, too much of a bad porno script, too cheesy or corny, I squashed it.
  • Focus on neutral tone
    • I tried to make the player dialogue line up better with the base game, i.e. more neutral. As a bonus, this makes it easier to roleplay, as you can choose to interpret a line as sarcastic, or serious, or earnest, or however you want to imagine it sounding.
  • Toned down the flirting
    • This is related to neutralization, but especially important for "romance". The player character was often hitting on the love interest constantly from the start, well before they reciprocate. I took that out and tried to make it build towards intimacy.

Renamed NPCs

  • Ridiculous Forsworn and Falmer enemy names changed to match vanilla conventions while remaining unique

Revised Quest Text

  • Made it impartially informative like vanilla

Revised Message Box Text

  • More succinct, less over-the-top

*If anyone notices a spelling or grammar error please let me know.

Please note that this mod is a seperate plugin and not a replacer for the original.

Optional File: Elisif Quest Starter Dialogue Only in Blue Palace
This file will make the dialogue that starts the Elisif quest only appear on NPCs inside the Blue Palace. Without it, the dialogue appears on every NPC in the Solitude area. Main file is not required, but this must be loaded after the main file if you use it. It is an .esl-flagged .esp. Made based on a request by throwaway219.

Installation

  1. Ensure you have a working installation of Amorous Adventures 3.4 SSE for LoversLab.
  2. Download and install using your mod manager of choice.

Future Plans

  • wait for (constructive) feedback - no guarantees, but if you raise a good point I'll do something about it
  • I've playtested Riverwood, Whiterun, Windhelm, Morthal, Riften, Solitude, and the Dibellan quests; they've been refined to a satisfactory point. All other content is complete, but I've never played through them. I will update this mod as I come across points of improvement throughout my current playthrough.

Looks very interesting, can't wait to try it out. Have you seen Amorous Adventures - Player Dialogue Rewritten on nexusmods as well? It helped made some of the dialogue less coercive but was never finished. It looks like this could replace it.

I think I did see that one, probably didn't give it a download since it's unfinished. Seeing it makes me wonder if my mod is compatible with other versions of AA. If it is, I should upload this to the Nexus, too.

I took a look at both in SSEdit for comparison and your mod basically covered 90% of what that mod did and more, and since that mod has not been updated for awhile, you should just upload this version onto the Nexus.

I am looking into whether or not this will work for people using other versions of AA (Base, FlowerGirls, OStim/Osex). If it seems like it will, I'll upload it to the Nexus.

EDIT2: Disregard my previous edit, I think I need to remove the edits to quest text and remove the SexLab master to make it work for other variants of AA.

EDIT: Everything looks green with the main AA upload on the Nexus. Going to assume it's all good for people using FlowerGirls or OStim/Osex too based on comments from the Player Dialogue Rewritten mod.

No is not. I mean, it could work, but you need to remove the dependencies first.

Im using OSA version, your mod has a dependency on Sexlab. Of course i dont have sexlab instaled and i will not install that mod because i dont need it, so i think you will need to remove the dependency (masters) of sexlab and maybe it would be good to go

I did not edit NPC dialogue text beyond spelling and grammar corrections. Only player dialogue and other text (books/notes, quest information, message boxes, spell/NPC/item names) were edited to be different than the original.

Thanks, didn't catch that since I have SexLab installed. Will try removing the master.

EDIT: Looks like I can't include edits to the quest text as those reference SexLab. Can you try this file and see if it works? If it does, I can upload this one to the Nexus.

Gonna have to try this out, fedora-tipping dialogue is bad for my dental health.

It was so painful when I tried AA out that I instinctively started modding.

Is this compatible with AA Extended?

If so, should your Revision loaded before or after Extended?

Yes, it is compatible. Load order does not matter.

Ok so the lines spoken by the NPC's voice are still the same then correct? Nice, may give it a go, some of the lines are very cringe almost 70's porno script worthy, lol.

That's correct, and my thoughts exactly haha

Thank god someone has done this.  I've just downloaded your version off the Nexus as I'm using 0Stim version.

1. Any chance of you doing the Solitude quests?

2. What animation/idle replacers are you using in your game? The one where Gerdur scratches her head looks pretty good.

Great mod! Really like what you've done to make things more... natural.

I have noticed a couple mistakes though:

INFO xx001832 - should be "Don't get any ideas. The men here like my attention and I like theirs." ("theirs" is correct, "their's" is not)

INFO xx0083FE and xx0083FF - "Maybe it's not the best idea. [character]... such a child. I wish things were otherwise, but there's nothing I can do." ("it's" instead of "its" - the word in this case is a contraction of "it is", so an apostrophe is appropriate; "its" is only for a possessive statement (e.g., "Its usage in the sentence was questionable"))

Haven't noticed anything else yet, but you've touched a ton of things, and everything else is looking good so far. Again, great work here, and thank you!

  1.  Solitude quests are covered - all playable content is complete, I just haven't playtested everything. I updated the description to make that clearer.
  2. NPC Animation Remix (DAR)

Thanks a ton, knew I was bound to miss some. Learned something new today, the third person plural possessive pronoun. Theirs. ?
