File Spamming Is Way Out of Hand

... and now we have someone doing it for Skyrim mods, and I'm pretty sure this person doesn't have permission to re-post all these mods.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT FILE SPAMMING!

nope they do not, that's a spam bot trying to trick people into downloading malware.

Would be nice if someone bothered to do something...

I suppose I could - Oh Wait! - It's already done. Doing Reports rather than complaints in a Thread will achieve more.

The complaints are regarding the broken upload system that allows people to spam the newest file section.  There's no report button for that...

We're asking for flood control, and are receiving the sound of crickets in response.

I do not remember ever reporting a mod directly, so don't know if there is or is not a report button for mods. BUT... in situations when the "What's New" is filled with items from a single uploader, you might think that the moderator that is on might notice it... as everyone else does.

Stolen uploads are understandably more difficult to see, especially is the mod thief was smart enough to post the 12 stolen mods on one page, and not to spam "What's New".

TS3 has seen the latter a few times. I didn't report it, but posted links to the original mods pages in some cases. But, people still downloaded what may or may not be corrupted mods.

@Psalam, Slightly off the main topic, but perhaps relevant as far as wanting groups of mods on one page, and site download times, and I'm sure admin wants to make it easier for users to download mods, I saw this page here...

Maybe one of the more computer programming literate (THAT AIN'T ME), will check this out and do something with it, if it is a useful download tool???

So instead of taking initiative when YOU see ten carbon copy mods uploaded by the same person, you want members to report it?

No, let me use small words so that you understand. Clearly (sorry, two syllables) I had deleted the files when I became aware of them immediately (sorry, some ideas just take more than one syllable). However, I might have become aware of them sooner (good for everyone) if they had been Reported. Okay with you O wise and powerful Oz?

I am not the most computer literate of the Admin staff but I can already see the flaw in this. We have many mods that have a LOT of files, most of them old and out of date. This would (by the author's explanation) mean that if I used this tool to download I would get a lot of junk with the files that I wanted. I suspect that the difference in perspective comes from the fact that I tend to mostly download Bugthesda games and you get Sims where the "product" is basically complete (no updated version with new tweaks every few weeks) when it is uploaded.

I'm shocked you're actually doing your job.  Totally unexpected.

Since it was my idea in the first place YEAH it's okay.  No need to thank me, padawan.

Just took care of it a few minutes ago.  Deleted today's file flood and PM'd the guy with a 'pretty-please-with-fucking-sugar-on-it' request that he stop it.  From now on he's gonna have to submit them on ONE PAGE like a reasonable person would.  Problem solved and it took maybe 10 minutes.  He's not a bad dude, he just didn't understand....and now he does.

Like so many others who like to shift their brain into neutral and let their tongue idle on you only see what you expect to see. Maybe you should broaden your perspectives.

Yea, you know the old "throw it against the wall and see if it sticks" deal. )

You never know unless you ask. I can't have it both ways now can I?

Still waiting for that 'thank you' for showing you how to moderate a site without the 'oh muh drama' rule crutch.

to be fare, they were already getting removed by the time i saw them, so in my case it would of been pointless if i did.

Clearly, my comment was not directed at anyone who hadn't seen them. I am not so self-centered as to think that others could act on something of which they were unaware.

To be fair, absolutely nothing was being done to curtail file spamming until people started pointing it out in threads like this.  And then what happened?  A staff member tried belittling people for doing the very thing that brought the spamming to their attention in the first place...in a thread like this.

AND THEN  they have the gall to try and let their nuts hang and 'we had it under control' when they (and everyone else) knows that's a fucking lie...and a delusional Nexus level lie at that.

@MadMansGun This is NOT directed at YOU in any way/shape/form.  Your post was a launch pad for me to point out the obvious.  No offense to you.

What if users had an account setting to only see mods for their preferred game/ games on the "what's new" tab? This wouldn't solve the problem for SIMS players but it wouldn't require moderator action or vague rules.

When I want to see "what's new" in Skyrim I use the downloads section. It shows me new files AND updates. Way more useful than the What's new in SIMS tab.

LOL look at the staff interested in what they just gaslighted/minimalized.  There is no file spamming. It's all in your imagination. We have it under control. THREAD LOCKED.

EDIT; oops type-o

@Psalam Go ahead and justify and minimalize.  It's what 'everyone' on the site expects.  Are you going to lockstep with DocSax and CPU (dysfunctional authoritarian because-I-said-so nut jobs) or be a real moderator?  You can't be both.  I've already tried to explain this to you.  Did I waste my time?  No need to respond.  Henceforth it's 100% on you.  Disclaimer; I tried.

Fact:  That is the one thing you absolutely aren't doing.

If you're going to egg shit on until a thread gets locked, could you start your own by chance?

Where the Hell have you been?  The site has worked this way since 2018 and Doc Sax actively participates in locking threads he doesn't agree with,  He laughs about it  Get with the program.  Sheesh.
