You can increase your animation number DRASTICALLY with these tools:
Animation Limit Crash Fix (Skyrim SE and LE), SSE Engine Fixes (Skyrim SE only)
Since FNIS cannot know if such mod is installed, it will still warn you at the original limit.
But when such tool is used, load calculation can be switched off (FNIS.ini: "LoadCTDCalculation=0")
 2 Warning(s).

Noting to be ashamed of if you are new at this but not reading your own logs is.

I think that gives a clue.

FNIS XXL doesn't support limitless animations.

To go over the FNIS limit you need to install 》 Animation Limit Crash Fix (Skyrim SE and LE), SSE Engine Fixes (Skyrim SE only) 《

Activate the skeleton arm patch in the FNIS generator window (one of the check boxes at the bottom of FINS for users generator window)

Creature Pack not installed

You might also want the fnis creature pack if you installed FunnyBiz creature animation and other SLAL packs that inclue creature animations.

You won't be able to activate creature sexytime in Sexlab without errors without the fnis creature pack.

You find the pack on the same page you downloaded FNIS XXL

The load warning

>>Warning: Too many custom animations. Your Skyrim is likely to crash (CTD, crash to desktop)<<

Will remain unless you uninstall some animations or follow the guidance it gives about turning the warning off

If you want to cut down the animations decide on either using Osex or Sexlab and uninstall the animations for the one you don't want to use

The answer to that has even color thanks to LL text artist Gukahn.

FNIS will always warn you if you go over the max animation count FNIS thinks is stable.

The other hint would be that your game does the CTD (crash to desktop) on startup if you are over the real limit.

If you installed mods that remove the limit you can ignore the warning.

If Skyrim CTD as soon as you start it, it might be a hint that either the limit remover doesn't work or there is an issue unrelated to FNIS.

The best way to check if changes work you made on you Skyrim installation is to start it and test it from time to time while adding mods.

That's important, because the more you add without a test in between the more troublesome get troubleshooting.

For example:

You tested your game before FNIS fixes.

You test the game afer installing FNIS fixes.

>> if it does the CTD you know right away its the FNIS limit

You didn't do any tests and just do the whole LO in one go without a clue.

> now there can be multiple reasons why Skyrim CTD with the same symptoms as for a FNIS related CTD on game startup, like:

>> too many animations

>> missing master

>> broken or wrong or overwritten patch

Same goes for any other mod combos you are not sure about if the will work ingame without issues.

Rename the file in FNIS.ini - not ini0

The ini0 is the file type. Renaming it FNIS.ini will get you a file that your pc reads as FNIS.ini.ini0

I'm getting the same situation and that was the result.

Two possibilities here:

1. You are correct and everyone else is incorrect, or

2. Everyone else is correct and you are incorrect.

The simple way to solve this enigma would be for you to delete the ".ini0" from the end of the file name so that the file is named FNIS.ini

Posted

If you are trying to change the filename by opening it in a text editor and saving it under a new name, you may be fighting a dumb file editor.

Try renaming the file from a file explorer window, or any method other than the one that is fighting you on the extension change.

First, set the folder options so that Windows displays the file extension.
Then click on the file, press F2 and overwrite all this Bullshit with FNIS.ini

@Andy14 had the right of it (Thank you for the helpful response). File explorer wasn't set to show file extensions in the name, so there was no way to "just delete" the ".INI0". It was this way by default. File Explorer had this set as a default, so using file explorer directly was doing the weird naming.
