I found a fix - I was watching a video on 3Dmigoto and it turns out that often when an index buffer is shared between two models, the vertex buffers aren't.  3Dmigoto allows processing either IB or VB hashes, actually, so when I changed Altina's nude mod to recognize the towel using a VB hash instead of an IB hash, it became specific to her model.  (admittedly I don't know how many people care about this, but hey a bugfix is a bugfix)  The updated hash is only needed for CS4 and Hajimari, to my knowledge, as the IB hash is unique to Altina in CS3.

Great questions! You may not like the answers, though... but it gives me a chance to go behind the scenes a bit so please indulge me.

 

1. Juna's casuals - Teosz already did this (as did The Silver Vox), I focused on costumes others haven't done since I went to great lengths to make sure the different mods play nice together. Please download his mods!

 

Juna's crossbell skirt - could be shortened a little bit, but if you look at the merge point, her torso is joined to the skirt and not the legs, so if I removed the skirt, it would literally look like her torso is a shirt she's wearing over her legs.

 

With the other skirts and shorts you asked about, there isn't any body underneath to reveal. Fie's swimsuit skirt could probably be shortened though, I might get around to it (I've chosen to spend less of my time on paid DLC that others might or might not have tbh).

 

2. The answer is yes! I might even someday. I find texture work to be far more difficult though, and often I can't get a satisfactory result. Don't think I haven't already tried. I have, I just thought the results looked like crap. (Or like above, someone else has already done it, eg The Silver Vox or Toesz)

 

Also almost all the tights removals have been transplants from other characters, and some I have been forced to use garters because there aren't adequate full leg replacements. (For example no one has legs like Towa - particularly the ankles are laid out in a really funny pattern on the mesh UV. Others like Elise and Altina are easier because of the boots.)

 

It doesn't help that CS4 does a funny transform on the UV maps so they don't line up at all in blender. All the new underwear you see, I literally placed by experimentation, moving / scaling / rotating a few pixels at a time and refreshing in game. I only recently (2 days ago) figured out how to correctly undo the transform in blender to get pixel-perfect maps (remove the integer on the y-axis for example 2.5216 becomes 0.5216 - so simple I wanted to kick myself).

 

Plus there is so much warping and transforming going on, it's crazy. The texture maps are insane, they're so crammed full. The designers did whatever they could to keep the game size down. Many texture mods were blocked because a shoe was shoved in next to a butt, etc.

 

3. Juna's CS4 costume there's a version you can already try. It breaks a vertex group and the screen artifacts. But it's useable... sort of. Look in the Juna CS4 folder. The tennis skirt - same problem as #1. Same with Alisa, Towa, etc. I shortened it as far as it will go. Alisa doesn't actually have a butt in that costume at all, beyond what I showed.

 

Sara's I would've loved to cut more; she has the only thong in the game I believe (and it's actually much nicer than Rixia's in Hajimari believe it or not, just pull up the two maps and compare). But it's incomplete (the front and back aren't connected). I couldn't transplant it anywhere either because of that, which was really too bad.

 

Some I did cut at natural locations to get the nicest looking result, and you could shorten further. I think Renne's is one of those cases. You could open the file in her folder in blender and just hack away more skirt, it'll take you less than 5 min. Or you could do it using .inf editing, her skirt has physics.

 

4. Yes! Alfin's is easiest, it's right there. I just didn't like how it looked. But just go into Alfin's mod and rename the cleavage file to an active .ini and it will work. You'll see why I chose not to make it default. She has very incomplete cleavage so I had to leave a lot of the lace behind, and the layout of the triangles didn't allow for an elegant partial delete. But it's useable, it looks... ok.

 

Elise, I tried, it creates a hole in her model. In fact, if you look carefully (turn the mod on and off) and you'll see I shrunk the lace to expose as much skin as I could before the gap was obvious, which was only possible because the pixel shader for that texture has an alpha channel (most don't).

 

Actually one you didn't mention was one I really wanted, to remove Vita's scarf, her cleavage underneath is amazing and actually complete for once. But removing her scarf literally decapitates her. Someone with skills like Switch608 might be able to fuse the neck with good looking normals, but I couldn't get results I liked.

 

 

So I hope you can see that pretty much every question you asked, I had already asked myself! It's pretty nuts, I experimented a lot, and much was left on the cutting room floor. I have to say I respect the devs a lot at this point, they made a ton of compromises to make the models look as good as they did with the engine they were given, and still left lots for us to discover using mesh mods, free camera or physics tricks.

 

So yeah, you might see a few new things in the next version when I finally beat the game and break into the debug room, we'll see. But it won't be a huge update I think. I don't mean to toot my own horn too much, but my mod is already definitely one of the bigger ones, CS4 is currently sitting at 113 modified meshes, each by hand, the mod folder alone has 1139 files... sounds pretty crazy now that I actually tally it up. And yes, I included all my work files specifically so people could mod my work easily and share. So have at it!

 

(Btw what a comprehensive look through my mod and what's left you did... I don't even know who's butt that is below Emma is #2!)

Btw I’m pretty sure none of your requests are impossible… but all involve technical challenges that I couldn’t solve. But hey, I thought nude mods would be impossible in this game due to the insane artifacts that occurred with model swapping (see my post earlier about trying to mod Rosine). Switch608 proved me wrong. So who knows? Maybe someone will want to take on some of these challenges.

1. Open Blender.

4. Select breasts (easiest way is to use the circle select tool, then you can paint over the triangles you intend to modify).  Left click (hold+drag) to select, middle click to deselect.  Be sure to look at your selection from multiple angles before moving on to the next step, it's easy to miss random triangles as you paint!

5a. In Juna's model, not all the edges are joined, we will need to fix that first.  Select one layer further out than you need (basically paint more of the breast than you need).

6. Now you can make things bigger.  Use the shrink/fatten transform (Alt-S).  Move the mouse up and down, and your model will get bigger or smaller.

8. Time to export your work!  Save as "Juna" (to make your life easier, keep the same name as Switch608 used).

9. Go to the folder where you saved your file, and copy the .ini file from Switch608.  Do this FIRST!  Then copy in my vb_split.py script, and run it.  If it finds a matching .ini file, it will NOT auto-generate one.  (We don't want to write our own, we want to re-use the existing one.)

10. Switch608's mods use a different filename convention from my scripts.  Edit the .ini file and change the filenames inside the .ini file.  (Yes, you could just rename the files themselves, but then you'd have to rename them every time you run the splitter.  And you'll probably run it quite a few times as you make small changes in Blender!)

11. Copy the file into your Mods folder, and load up the game!
12. Admire your work, and then go back into Blender to adjust as needed.  (You might want to shrink the nipples back down, for example.)  Don't forget to run "vb_split.py" every time you export from Blender.

 

Hopefully this inspires someone to do some modding!  Don't ask me to do it for you, I won't.  The whole point is to teach you to fish!  I hope you try it, and if you like the results, I hope you share your work with all of us.

So in theory could this be used to make every girl's breasts more accurate to what they're supposed to be? The reason I haven't gone in on this nude mod (since the thing I've really always wanted from the start was just to turn the bathing scenes into nude scenes for immersion and fanservice) is because everyone's body is the exact same, even characters who absolutely shouldn't be like Altina and Towa, which just look uncanny to me. Moreover Emma's breasts are actually reduced with this mod from what they should be. I think if each character with a bathing clothes outfit could get an individual touch a "natural bathing mod" could be done easily.

I don’t know the answer for sure, since I don’t have much experience, but I doubt my tutorial will be enough to make massive changes. The tool I used

scales along the normals (the direction perpendicular to each individual polygon), which works well to a point. The more drastic the change, the less convincing it will look and the more manual tweaking you will need to do to get a good result. But the tutorial will get you started.

It's my first time sculpting anything, so the triangles on the meshes certainly aren't optimal, but the models look fine ingame. To install, overwrite the folders from @Switch608's mod in bin/Win64/Mods. Tested in Hajimari, should work for CS4 as well.

Awesome, looks good :) I was actually avoiding using the other one for now because the smaller characters just looked so odd with the other body haha. Glad to see someone working on different body types.

Wow, this a very nice indepth tutorial!, although have not modded anything before, this could be great way to try out at least something like this and practice abit, have experience using blender just not so much for modding. Thanks alot for taking the the time to write all that down! seems like it has proved quite helpful too someone already too! :)

Looks great!  I too appreciate the smaller bodies, not just because it fits with their characters, but also just because I appreciate normal-sized breasts!  ?

 

When I get a chance, I'll update my compatibility wrapper to include CS3 compatibility and Altina shared towel fix for your models.  (anyone who can't wait could just do step 10 of my tutorial to the relevant .ini files of course)

I've seen the renders you posted earlier in this thread, you have way more skill in blender than I!

Thanks!, I appreciate that alot! although it is a different skill entirely, have way too much too learn, not as impressive as some of the other stuff that's out there but at least I can say hey, I did that right? xD 

 

Wanted to ask, there wouldn't happen to be a tutorial on how too reproduce a nude mod for character like how switch has done for all the other characters? I assumed Aurelia had been modded already but was surprised too see she wasn't modded. If there is a tutorial for it, id like too try my hand at doing one for her, if not its fine, still really glad with all the amazing and wonderful mods you we all have now thanks too you guys : )

I don't know since I haven't been doing any nude mods (which require mesh replacement), but I think I know the basic steps.

 

1. Grab the mesh (model) you want to replace, for example Aurelia's body in the towel outfit.
2. Copy the body mesh from another nude mod, for example Juna's.
3. Move target model to the side, paste in donor model.
4. Transfer weights from target to donor.
5. Resize the donor model so that it fits the target.
6. Delete (old) target model.

 

This Fairy Tail mod tutorial taught me 90% of what I know:

Edit: I got n error, not sure what that means, im trying too import the model after the frame analysis dump, tried several times and retook the analysis dump but i keep getting the same error, not sure what im doing wrong but obviously something wrong.

 

Yeah, im stuck, i dont know what that error means and i cant import anything, i have installed the migoto addon for blender but im still getting this error xd

Emma and Elie got a size increase while the others got a reduction. Elise's hair no longer clips into her chest.

Wow! these changes look great! thanks so much!! certain characters breasts were clipping like Elise, Tita, Altina`s ect, at least there not clipping anymore and these sizes look great!! not that I minded the size before but the clipping of there hair`s made it a little jarring at times.

Ohhh i see, yeah the fella in the vid did mention he was using 2.93 which I have, but decided to use the newer 3.1 version, ill try it out on the older version and see what happens then thanks.

Another thing I try when just certain meshes refuse to load is to turn off “auto-load related meshes.”  Many times the mesh I want is compatible, but a related mesh isn’t.

Here is an update for my compatibility wrapper for @Switch608 nude mods so that they work in CS3 / CS4 / Hajimari with my skirt delete mod, now with compatibility files for @coomi versions.  Mainly needed for CS3, although there is a modified Altina.ini for fixing the shared hash issue for CS4 and Hajimari.  Enjoy!

I forgot to mention too, in the video the guy imports the whole folder, that doesn’t work in these games because there are way too many meshes and some of them aren’t compatible. Only import the ones you need.

 Index of my CS4 tutorials and where to find my mod:

 

Tutorial time!  This time, let's get a model into Blender.  There's multiple ways to do this and this is my way.  I use this method (even though it takes up a lot more space) because it's really fast, and also allows me to do texture work if I need to.  (@Whayameen asked for more tights deletes, and they're coming!!)  This tutorial is meant for use with the 3Dmigoto configuration that comes with my unskirt mod installed (since mesh work requires compatibility with multiple vertex buffer injection).

1. Also install Paint.NET if you don't have it.  http://paint.net/

 

1. Set up your 3Dmigoto to dump textures.  Edit your d3dx.ini file (in TOCS4\bin\Win64).  Look for "analyse_options" - if you're using my plugin (which you should be), it's on line 481.  Set the options to "dump_vb dump_ib txt dump_tex dds"

2. Reload 3Dmigoto config by pressing F10 while in game.  Press F12 to enter hunting mode (the top of the screen should show the current marked shaders VS/PS etc).

 

3. Get your character in frame, and press F8 to dump the frame.  The game will momentarily freeze, then report where the frame dump was saved to.

4. Open the folder, and copy my "vb_merge.py" script into the folder.  Run the script.  It will take a minute to merge all the buffers.  A new folder "output" should now be in the folder, these are the buffers you will use.

5. Let's find the buffers you want!  If you want just 1-2 buffers, it's faster to use hunting mode, but in this tutorial we're going to grab a bunch.  (NOTE: The first time you do this, you won't see icons like my screen!  Open a texture file {*.dds} in Paint.NET, and select "always use this program" and it'll associate properly and show icons.)

Because we want to modify an outfit in this case, I'm going to ID the clothes and the body meshes by texture mapping.
- In the frame analysis folder, go into the "deduped" folder.
- Right click -> Sort By -> Type
- Right click -> View -> Large icons
- Find the textures you need, and copy down the hash (first 8 hexadecimal digits).  (The two I'm grabbing here are "65caf638" which has the legs and "57533639" which has the dress)

6. Go back into the frame dump folder, and search for the hashes.  Here are the results for 65caf638 and 57533639, for example.  Note the mesh numbers (different for every frame).  Based on the two sets of results, I'm going to try opening meshes 48-60.  Notice 56 and 57 aren't in my search results but I'm going to open them anyway - it's because the model is always in consecutive numbers so I know 56 and 57 are part of the model.

7. Open Blender.  Delete whatever is already there.  Go to File -> Import -> 3DMigoto frame analysis dump (vb.txt + ib.txt).  Select the relevant hashes (here I grabbed 48 through 60), and open.

(You'll notice there are a lot of duplicate hashes - I ended up deleting 49, 51, 53, 55, 58 and 60.)  Be careful with duplicate meshes, they're not identical.  Be sure to use the version with the most buffers, for example 48 has vb0-vb5 and 49 has vb0-vb4 so 48 is correct.  It's 99.9% of the time the first one - so if 48, 49, 81, and 82 are all identical, 48 would be the correct one pretty much every time.

 

Next time, we'll try injection!

In regards to that outfit, does it work in the character viewer? I haven’t played the game, but I thought I had it working properly. (Reply in hajimari thread please)
