Unappreciated Games

I would have to say Privateer.  I loved that game and I wish they would either remake it or continue the series.  Only Wing Commander game I could get into.

here:

and for righteous fire(very very little spoiler as to how to start it):

hoping it gets ported to the new Vega Strike Engine, after the Ogre port is finished.

Zombiepox. Little known game that is super addictive and so much fun. It gets crazy at higher levels.

Oh, and Pandemic II. I wish they'd make a Pandemic III already.

Bioforge. Amazing game, if only a little clunky on the controls and camera angles, but otherwise perfect. Never got picked up for a sequel, and in many ways, that' a good thing. There is no way anyone would be able to match the bar being raised that high these days.

I don't know if you know this, as it's not REALLY a Pandemic game, even though it's a Pandemic game, if that makes sense. But the makers of Pandemic made a game for the iPhone/Android called Plague Inc., if you want to check it out! It's quite the addicting little thing.

Final Fantasy *Drum roll* IX. Seriosly. It's the one damn game of the series I've actually played (though still didn't beat) and NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT IT. EVER. If you just went by what people talked about, you would have all the old school final fantasies, I - VI, the "modern" ones, VII, VIII, and then X, X-2, XI, XII, etc. Never IX. Ever. Period. Doesn't exist.

*high five*

It's the main series FF the world forgot, and that bugs me.  I only enjoyed Tactics more, and enjoyed XII almost as much (I've played I, III, IV, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, and Tactics).

Come to think of it, XII is another one that's sort of never mentioned outside of Fran/Penelo lesbian bondage porn (which is a bizarrely specific yet clearly consistent theme in FFXIII porn...).  Yeah it's a blatant Star Wars ripoff and yeah the game basically played itself, but it took some skill to make it play itself well, and it was pretty fun to actively take control of characters on the fly.  Tactics, IX, XII were the only ones I dug into the side content on, too, and it was well worth it.

Plague Inc is pretty fun, you really have to think sometimes to get everything to work.

That game was fun, but the unresponsive touchscreen of my phone pissed me off cause I couldn't pop those bubbles :@

I super loved IX, it was a great throwback to the old school FF games. I loved how lighthearted it was, with a look and feel that reminded me why these games were so much fun in the first place. Vivi will always be my favorite FF character of all time.

That said, I didn't like XII at all. I struggled to understand the muddy plot bogged down with political crap, and the battle system was an absolute chore. You say it took skill to make that game play itself, and I say that's a skill no one should have to learn. Give me full control via turn based battles, or give me competent AI I don't have to program myself. I never finished the game, and I don't mind at all. I haven't played a FF game since, and judging from watching friends play the most recent installment, I made the right choice.

I think IX was the last FF I truly enjoyed. X was...well, it was a nice effort, but definitely the beginning of the end for me. I miss the days when FF was about adventure and fun. Remember fun? I miss fun.

Edit: Oh, that reminds me of another unappreciated game: Vagrant Story. It actually ties in with some of the FF games, since it takes place on Ivalice. It's a unique style game, with some really interesting combat mechanics and a visual style that holds up even today. I strongly recommend this buried treasure.

Have to agree there, it's one of the only 2 FF games I've played (FFXIII being the other one) and it was by far the better out of the two. Hell Vivi is one of my favourite characters in gaming ever.

I think Dragon's Dogma was pretty unappreciated. Yeah it had it's flaws and the Pawns could be pretty annoying (only when they spoke though, as they felt the need to describe the same fucking thing every time you passed it) but being able to borrow other people's pawns was pretty damn awesome and the final (as in the main game, not the post game) boss was one of THE most badass bosses I've ever had the pleasure of curb stomping.

I'd also like to add that I think Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a pretty underrated game. It's been called a Gears of War knockoff even though the only thing it has that Gears has is a third person perspective, but due to it's setting it already has a very rich backstory and I thought the game's storyline was pretty damn solid. It also ranks up with Dragon's Dogma in having one of the most BADASS final boss fights I've ever had the pleasure of going through in a game:

You rugby tackle a demon off a building and during free fall proceed to grind a chainsword into it's face, although the animation looks like you're punching the thing to death, before a huge explosion finishes it off

it also had the only multiplayer I actually got into. I may be a bit bias in the praise for the game though since I am a massive 40k fanboy, but still I never hear ANYTHING about the game other then the odd "it's a Gears knockoff" comment.

Spess Mehreen was damn fun; but way too short.

While it's missing that signature cover-mechanic, thank the Emprah, if you put a giant armored dude with huge-ass guns in a third person shooter people are just simply going to think "Gears of War".

Even though it's not Gears of War, it's still not fully its own thing; but can you really be disappointed when it was pulled off as well as it was? If there's one thing Relic knows how to do, its make great 40k games. I do hope that Sega nabs the 40k license since they have Relic now, they did manage to get the Warhammer Fantasy license for The Creative Assembly so it seems plausibly easy to do. (Oh god, I am so drooling over the idea of Warhammer Fantasy: Total War. Please don't be an action game, please don't be an action game, please don't be an action game.)

I still don't think that that's a valid comparison, one is a third person cover based shooter the other is a third person shooter with hack 'n' slash elements to it (although I prefer to call it a third person hack 'n' slash game since that's all I seemed to do in it bar the occasional spray of bolter rounds or using a turret) the only the things they have in common are being third person, have burly men and shooting things. Although Titus shows more emotion than Marcus does.

But Warhammer Fantasy: Total War sounds awesome, leave all the action to WH40K.

If it weren't lousy console port, and if they keep to the promise (co-op campaign) then maybe.

Akuji the heartless.

Played on PS1. Lots of happy memories.

Sort of a voodoo warrior style Tomb Raider with multiple cultural afterlife references.

The first game that I had noticed the battle/action music actually following the action!

Throne Of Darkness

Reckoning Kingdoms of Amalur

Alpha Protocol

Reckoning is just awesome. Sure, voice acting is not top notch at all. And at some point I had no idea what I was doing. I had so many quests and I just lost focus and gave up. But damn, the combat is superior to anything I have ever played. Using bows sucks, but the rest, EPIC. I mean,

Chakra!!

Alpha Protocol, have only beat it once. But damn that was a big mess when it came out. But when they patched the more serious stuff, it was one of the better RPG games I have played at the time. Still thinking of goin back to it sometimes. Juts don't have the time right now, grrr.

Alpha Protocol, I havent played it on launch so I was like wtf is wrong with this people are they mad? This game is great.

So I can't really tell if it deserved all that that bashing. For me it was good game.
