Popular Post Drbigt Posted October 15, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 15, 2020 (edited) Sims 4 - Beginner Modlist Guide Version 0.3 Prefix: I was inspired to create this modlist to help create a better Sims 4 experience for myself and for others. The way Sims 4 mods work is that you can install them in any order you wish, which will make the modding a lot simpler. I have categorized things under base game and what they change. If something requires DLC, I have that listed as well. You don't have to download all mods, you can just pick and choose to install whatever you're looking for. Many of the mod links contain numerous mods, you can just choose the ones from the list that you like. This is a highly WIP list and I welcome feedback and suggestions for additional content! CAUTION - Mods with this notice need extra attention or there's something else to consider Alternative - This mod is an alternative to the above mentioned mod Installation Instructions Download these mods to your Mods package (located in Documents/ElectronicArts/Sims/Mods) Now, everytime you download new mod, update mod or remove mod do this step: Go into your Dcouments/ElectronicArts/Sims folder If present, remove these three files lastCleanException lastException localthumbcache This is done as a means of ensuring compability and stability and to ensure these changes take place. Highly recommended Mods Spoiler Regardless of what mods you'll pick, I always suggest taking these DeadPool MCC - This is an amazing mod that allows you to alter the game in numerous ways, including story progression and error catching. MCC alone will improve the base Sims 4 experience a lot. Meaningful Stories CAUTION- This changes things for the better for story progression and generally improves things. I highly discourage using the color reversal for happiness though, because it makes happiness to look gray and neutral to look green which is just confusing. Better BuildBuy - This formats the buy/build mode to have up to 5 rows at the time to reduce having to scoll down a list. It also enables you to buy objects that you'd have to eanble debug options to otherwise acces to, which then would make all these objects called *DEBUG* even though they all have names in the game. Simulation Unclogger - This also helps with Simulation Lag, it can be used with the previous mod as it changes different things. XML Injector - This is needed for several mods for their functionality Pack checker - This is needed for several mods for their functionality Texture Overhauls Spoiler Aqua Trigger Eyes - These are great eyes, there's options for both aliens and mermaids and vampires too. They look very close to the defaults but improved, so they don't clash with anything. Better Tatoos - Sims 4 already has some tatoos but most of them are pretty mediocre. You can find tons of really nice tats from here! Better Skin Textures CAUTION - Only install VanillaToddlerChild package, next mod is for any other ages Smootish II This is by the same person who made the previous mod. It is also only avaivable from teens to elder, which is why we use the other mod for toddlers/children. HD Feet - You don't even have to be into feet to realize that the feet of Sims 4 look pretty bad. However, this simple texture fix does make the toes look nice. Meshes Spoiler EVE Body - This is a great body replacement Mesh Sopor Alure - This is my to go to choice for breast and nipple mesh Heavy Breasts Alternative - While it's not nearly as high quality as Sopor, these breasts support very big sizes and better sliders. Use this or Sopor, not both. Lightning Spoiler Download ALL these mods or none of them Into the Light Out into Dark Cubemap Remover Enviroment Spoiler Terrain Replacements - Improves background textures Floorpaint Replacements - Improves all the floorpaints Gameplay Spoiler Basemental's drugs - Adds drugs and actual crime to the game. AEP Porn career REQUIRES GET TO WORK, CITY LIVING AND GET FAMOUS!!!! - New career of a porn actor, complete with either become a producer or actor! Purchased objects come into Inventory REQUIRES GET TO WORK - This mod makes it so that when unplayed Sims buy things, the items end in their inventories. Great especially for rotational playstyles. Ring Up Customers at Register REQUIRES GET TO WORK - This mod allows customers to wait in line while you're at cash registers and come with orders to you, instead of just standing there and waiting you to come to them like in the vanilla. The line moves and works as you think it would. Retail Overhaul REQUIRES GET TO WORK - Numerous fixes and improvements to the retail mechanics Lifetime Aspirations - Changes the way Lifetime Aspirations work, making them more meaningful and life lasting like in Sims 2 and 3 Personality Mod - Adds whims and new personality traits to make gameplay much more fun and like in Sims 2 and 3! General Fixes and Overhauls Spoiler HIGH CAUTION ZONE ALERT!!! Be extra sure you read the instructions and only install things for expansion and content pack that you own and have installed otherwise you may corrupt your saves or cause crashes or other strange problems. Do NOT install everything listed under these links blindly!!!! Random Bug Fixes (CAUTION) - Contains several bugfix mods. Updated regulary to remove things that are no longer needed. Misc Mods (CAUTION) - Contains several fixes to odd behaviours, quirks and many other silly things in Sims 4. Food (CAUTION) - Contains fixes to some food related problems Autonomy Spoiler HIGH CAUTION ZONE ALERT!!! Be extra sure you read the instructions and only install things for expansion and content pack that you own and have installed otherwise you may corrupt your saves or cause crashes or other strange problems. Do NOT install everything listed under these links blindly!!!! Autonomy Mods (CAUTION) - Tweaks many annoying autonomy interactions and improves on many others Lovers Lab Spoiler Cum Mesh - Required by few animations for Whicked Whims Bouncing Sims Boobies - Self explatoinary Whicked Whims - Makes sexual whims and sexual content and much more! Wicked Perversions - New aspirations and much more that make use of Whicked Whims! Kritikals Naughty Kollection - Tons of erotic content from clothes, bondage wear, slutty clothes, toys and much more! Atrois Animations (CAUTION) - Animations for Whicked Whims. After installation, go into Mods\Atrois\Cherrypie Cummesh and delete CherryPie_CumMesh, keep the other two. Adding too many animations will increase load times and lag the game, so please refrain from adding from numerous authors. Femdommania Animations (CAUTION) - Some great femdom and woman worship animations for Whicked Whims. Adding too many animations will increase load times and lag the game, so please refrain from adding from numerous authors. Adding these two should be fine, even on a weak rig DLC improvments Spoiler MAKE SURE THAT YOU OWN THE CONTENT, NEVER INSTALL ANYTHING FROM THIS LIST THAT YOU DO NOT OWN Outdoor Living Get to Work Get Together City Living Vampires Parenthood Cats&Dogs Laundry Day Jungle Adventure Seasons Get Famous Strangerville Island Living Realm of Magic Discover University Tiny Living Snowy Escape Cottage Living Fuck Dust Bunnies Spoiler This is a section dedicated entirely about Bust The Dust kit, because that kit has so many problems. Do not install these mods unless you have Bust the Dust kit. Dust Shite - Numerous fixes and removes the fucking stupid dust bunnies. You should install all of this but at least, get rid of the dust bunnies. Mop dust away - Allows people off the grid to clean dust. Something that should be in base game. Expanded Scrubedoo REQUIRES REALM OF MAGIC (CAUTION) - This adds a spell that lets you clean dust using magic. You can also optionally use magic to create Dust bunnies, if you so wish but you'll need these two mods too. XML Injector and Spellbook injector Reshade Spoiler Reshade preset - This is a rather good preset Edited February 4, 2022 by Drbigt 58

HumanII Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Could you explain what the benefit of DeadPool MCC is? I’ve looked over the documentation, and I don’t see why I would want it.

You can tweak the behavior of Sims, tweak aging for each life states (Like near eternal young adult-adult and like day old babies since those suck), you can make changes to the culling mechanics, allow teenage and elder pregnancy, you can force kill people and start pregnancies or alter townies and much, much, MUCH more. TL, DR; It does so many things I would have to write literally 5 page long essay.

foxxkaty Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 This is great as a beginner into modding, thank you! Will I encounter compatibility problems with animations/meshes/skins if I use clothing/tattoos/piercings CC that I download from around the internet? Or I can just use any CC with any mod?

Yes, you have a very high chance of having compability issues with CC Clothes but as long as you don't go crazy and install like 20 at once but rather install like 4 at once and check them out, you should be okay. Piercings depend a lot where they are but many work with the mods I've listed. Tatoos should be okay, some really weird WW animations can potentially make them stretch depending on the placement but generally should be fine. CC is honestly a bit out of the scope of this guide, as that's more advanced and requires a lot more curation. I can't really do that all by myself. However, I have personally tested these and have found them to work well with my Sim. Naughty collection 1

Nymra Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 wow, this is one messed up way of distributing mods lol... all those websites play the "find the download button" game with me ^^
petronius Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Hi, sims 4 newbie here - so thank you for your guide! May I ask - you made no mention of the HQ mod. I came to sims 4 from other games that featured stunning 4k and 8k textured characters and find the vanilla low res from TS4 a little dull. So, do you not recommend the HQ mod at all, or is it just that it involves some assembly and, thus, is not within the scope of a beginners guide? I would say beginner though I may be, texture detail is important enough that I feel motivated to read and learn, just don't know where to begin. I know where to get the HQ mod and replacement packs for the base game and dlc, also the tool that converts other mods. But if it were all that easy, everybody would be using it... right? Any hint would be appreciated and thanks again for this guide.

Any hint would be appreciated and thanks again for this guide. Um, Sims 4 isn't low res. (Play Sims 1-3 to see what a low res is) I have not tried HQ mod but I don't really see the point, the visuals aren't really the problem when it comes to Sims 4, everything else especially the gameplay honestly is. Running 4-8K just sounds like it'll slowdown your game and there being little point in doing that, especially if you start to install Wicked Whims animations you'll make load screens insane even without 4K-8K textures. Am I missing something? I can't really tell the difference. Seems like a lot of not worth it. The only textures that you realistically should change are the food textures which look bad and are of poor quality in vanilla. https://utopiamordor.tumblr.com/tagged/ts4+food If you insist on changing Sims textures, I can recommend this which I'll add to the guide. https://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Pralinesims/downloads/details/category/sims4-skintones/title/aphrodite-skin-female/id/1451693/

I did play a lot of TS1 and TS2 (skipped TS3) and a modded TS2 looked pretty decent (for the time). Still, I noticed you shared a comparison image also featured in the HQ mod, which states that all its replacement textures are just upscaled from the original assets - meaning no extra detail at all. You can, however, find a lot of HQ skin overlays that look a lot better, and they do require the HQ mod for the 2k x 4k maps. But I'm the kind of sucker for detail that prefers to live with jaggies rather than hammering them down with AA - because a lot of AA processes (at least the "cheap" ones in terms of performance) blur the fine detail. I'm too used to looking at goose bumps and skin pores in Skyrim Not entirely dissimilar to the skin texture you linked, thanks for that. I'll check it - and you say it doesn't require the HQ mod to look like that in game?
LuversLab92 Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Hi Drbigt, That's a super helpful list of mods. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these. I would recommend these to anyone playing Sims 4. Lotharihoe's Loading Screens - Changes the spinning diamond loading screens to dozens of options. No Intro - Auto skips the intro screen - speeds up sims 4 load time. More CAS Columns - Really nice to see more than two columns of clothing in CAS. Great for people with wide screen monitors. Tmex AlwaysFullEditMode - Shift clicking a sim into CAS allows you full power to change your houseful etc. Tmex - BetterBuildBuy - Allows you to view several more rows to easily choose items. More filtering options. If you are really into building houses, you will want this. UI Cheats - This could spoil you, but allows you to change money, time of day, skill levels, etc. External apps: Sims 4 Tray Importer - If you are going to share your homes, sims, etc, then this app makes the process of collecting the CC and the Tray stuff exporting into one zip much easier. Sims 4 Studio - Massive amount of stuff you can do with this app. I use it to prevent townies from wearing CC, and putting photos of my family into the game. Other ones I happen to use: Nisa's wicked perversions, Basemental Drugs, Extreme Violence, Longer Parties More Guests, Invite Any Guests 1

Because you listed several things that I have already listed, such as the drugs and Better Build . I will give Loading screens a try and see how I like it, I don't think you need Full Edit Mode when you already get that from MCC, same with UI cheats, you can do that with MCC too. MCC is the swiss army knife that does by itself tons of things. Having one big mod like MCC is a better option than several smaller mods because it reduces the load times. Tray and studio stuff are for more advanced users, I may add them though just because they're useful in case someone wants to make use of their features. However, the idea of this was to make it beginner friendly as possible, so I wasn't sure Tray or Studio would fit. I may make "Advanced users" section. 1

Ah thanks for bringing that up about loading times. Yeah, the longest load times is when I click the house and press play. I'll experiment with removing some of these and see what the speed up is. I'd say MCC is in my top 3 mods. UI Cheats is just so easy because don't have to pull up MCC to make a change for common stuff (like money, time of day, bladder, hunger etc) My wife bitches about the default penis's saying that they just don't look "real". Do you have a favorite mesh that comes with it? Nior's is... well porn star.... she just wants normal looking ones. I also want to convey my appreciation for you taking the time to create this list. Sims 4 sucks without mods. I just wish you list was up before I started playing.
yoyoman69 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Instead of Simulation Lag Fix I recommend this mod by coolspear. It works a lot better for me and there are different versions for different PCs and it is updated for 1.71. It is compatible with turbodriver's unclogger. 1

Yeah, I'm not gonna tell people to register to some shitty Sims forums just to download a mod, that sort of a gated content makes me want to hurl things at the website. The mod I listed is also compatible with Unclogger. I'll make a new update later this week, gonna add some new things and tweaks.
