I found some custom XPMS skeletons for COTS in the downloads here at lovers lab and have been trying to get them working with Realistic Ragdolls and Force and XPMS unsuccessfully. Has anyone managed this? I asked about the issue on the XPMS page on the Nexus. Someone said that if my custom race mod used a separate folder I could just install RRF and XPMS normally and only use the custom skeleton nifs in the custom race folder...but that doesn't work because COTS also puts its skeletons in the "Character Assets" and "Character Assets Female" folders. I tried removing COTS skeletons from those folders and installing RRF and XPMS normally...and replacing the COTS skeletons with their custom XPMS COTS versions in the "Oriental" and "xvisionc" folders. But when I run FNIS afterwards it reports a warning and Skyrim CTDs after trying to load my save.

Edit: I think I've found a possible solution to being able to use the XPMS mod and the xpms custom skeleton. COTS puts its skeletons (and also several other assets) inside the "Character Assets" and "Character Assets Female" folders in Skyrim -> Data -> Meshes -> Actors -> Character. XPMS also puts its skeletons there. To solve this conflict I would need to implement a solution rather like PCEA, create a sub-folder inside each of those two folders to hold all of the COTS specific assets and edit the ESP to direct the Sky Children race to look for its assets inside those sub-folders. In the process of figuring all that out I went digging through the folder structure of COTS and noticed some things which don't really make sense. It looks like it tries to make other vanilla races draw their assets from COTS as well, especially the redguards. Maybe that's necessary for some reason I'm not aware of (my knowledge of Skyrim's folder structure and general modding mojo is rather basic) or maybe Jiitek just thought the other races, especially redguards, could benefit from certain COTS assets. If the latter reason is the case, I disagree and would like to restructure COTS to be compatible with XPMS and leave the other races alone. Does anyone know of any reasons why that wouldn't be possible?

Woah, are you talking about this skeleton ? http://www.loverslab.com/topic/17705-xpms-chesko-x117-femalenif/

If so, you don't need to complicate your life so much. Here's what to do :

The files you're looking for are located there :

-Skyrim\Data\Meshes\actors\character\Oriental\x117\skeleton_female_x117.nif

There's also one copy there :

-Skyrim\Data\Meshes\actors\character\Character Assets Female\skeleton_female_x117.nif

First of all : backup those files !

Once that's done, copy the new skeleton in the Oriental\x117\ directory, then rename it skeleton_female_x117.nif (delete or replace the old file).

Then, run FNIS, making sure you check the "skeleton arm patch" and you're good to go. It worked with only replacing the skeleton in Oriental\x117\, but after testing, I also replaced the one in Character Assets Female\, just to be sure. Remember to run FNIS whenever you alter a skeleton.

Proof that it worked is that I now can use Dual Sheath Redux with my child of the sky character and have both sheath showing when only the main one would prior to replacing the skeletons.

Thank you so much for that explanation. It worked like a charm. I was just unaware that it mattered what the files are named. You learn something new every day :) I now have realistic ragdolls and force and XPMS installed and running smoothly. I do use PCEA though and had to move some animation files around. The main XPMS skeleton all the vanilla races in my game are using is the one which comes with the special dagger and one handed sword placements. But since I have PCEA only my character was using them. I just cut the corresponding  equip and unequip animations out of the animations folder and pasted them into the male and female folders inside the PCEA folder. The custom XPMS COTS male and female skeletons I'm using only have a special quiver placement on the belt, so I downloaded the animation only version of the Belt Fastened Quivers mod from the nexus: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35717/?tab=2&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D35717&pUp=1

Everything works. Yay! :)

Attention to those who want just an Child Replacer, and not the playable race.

So I decided to mess around with the files a bit and remove some stuff to test it out on my own game, in hopes that I could fix the issue with CotS replacing vanilla faces. Here are my results. I'm playing a Nord by the way.

Before installing Children of the Sky:

After installing Children of the Sky with my edits:

XTPqvFl.jpg

After deleting certain files from the Children of the Sky mod, my character now retains her original face without Children of the Sky overwriting it. And it didn't mess up the children either. They still look the same with the missing files.

Now this is what I did for those who want to give it a try.

Download Children of the Sky (https://mega.co.nz/#...HSoiWU_DBse4mJM password: o43EV30Jx3YuEJ3q1kLy). Inside the folder, copy the contents of the Main folder and the Hearthfire folder to a seperate folder together. You should have a meshes, scripts, textures, RaceCompatibility.esm, xvisionchildren, esp, and YChildren of the Sky.esp.

So we just want the children replacer, no playable race. So let's delete the obvious stuff first. Delete scripts, RaceCompatiblity.esm, and YChildren of the Sky.esp. Those all deal with the playable race which we won't be using any ways.

Now if you're like me, you already have a prison clothing replacer, so you don't want this mod overwriting your prison clothing replacer with the CotS body right? So let's get rid of that next. Go to meshes\clothes\ and delete the prisoner folder. The textures are fine if you want the textures at least. The meshes will give you a child body though so delete that folder.

Next, on to the face! Let's go to meshes\actors\character\Character Assets\

Here you will find the wretched files that overwrite our vanilla head. They are as follows: eyesfemalechargen.tri, femalehead.nif, femaleheadbrowschargen.tri, femaleheadchargen.tri, and FemaleHeadraces.tri.

Go ahead and delete those files. After you have done that, you should now have a meshes, textures, and the xvisionchildren.esp left. Let's go ahead and paste that into your Skyrim Data folder.

NOW, it is going to ask to overwrite stuff. Say NO. Go ahead and merge the folders, but when it asks to overwrite files, say NO.

Now tick it in NMM, sort your load order, and start up Skyrim. If you have the luck that I have, then Children of the Sky should no longer overwrite your vanilla head and the children should be fine.

This worked for me, so I hope it works for any of you that just want a child replacer mod, but don't want the hassle of the playable race.

Good luck. :)

EDIT: Forgot to post a picture of one of the children so you can see that it doesn't mess them up. Here's Lucia.

Might want to edit your post with a spoiler, instead of posting everything I just said...

That link loads just fine for me. But if you can't load it, there is plenty of other mirrors for Children of the Sky (seeing as this is the thread for the mod). See this post here for other mirrors.

Just don't run an installer .exe. If you get one of those in a mirror, don't run it. I had fun finding that out. Good to know how to manually eliminate viruses sometimes...

I've got a weird glitch where when I try to create a new character with the CotS race, the character starts out really really tiny, so I have to increase their height so they don't look like they are shorter than most knees.   However, whether or not I increase their height, upon entering first person the camera jumps to double the characters height.  I can play as an old save fine, but not edit the race or create a new one. I have the height fix checked.  Is this a known bug?

Edit:  I tried uninstalling eveything and putting all back on, excluding anything that I installed after the error started occuring, installing Children of the Sky last, and I'm getting the same problem.

:dodgy:  I really hate to do this, but I found no read me anywhere in the rar... and I searched on here until my eye's dried up  . where are the clothes/armors available? ...Is there a store? I installed the gear option, but I am the only kid in all of Skyrim that has to miss out on the good stuff until I can be enlightened on this.

There should be a secret trap door behind Faendal's house in Riverwood. Inside is a small room with a loli anvil and workbench where you can craft and improve all the gear. I would rather it be added as an extra category in the regular forge menu, but as of now, you have to go to that little secret room to make all the gear.

The optional ESP which comes with the Race Menu mod causes the giant first person camera problem upon changing cells. Just uncheck that esp in your load order. I've forgotten the name of the mod, but if you have the one which allows you to change the height of your character in game, I think I remember that one making my character tiny before I removed it. I could be wrong on that count though.

Nice innitiative digging through the files like that. I actually do want the playable race, as my character is a child, but I don't want COTS to force itself on the vanilla races so much. Would you happen to know why it does that, and if it's actually necessary for some reason? I would love a version of COTS with the playable race, but that left the other races alone so it would be more compatible with other mods. Would you know where to tell me to begin fiddling with it to make it like that? I wish Jiitek would come back.

Sorry, really wish I knew. I have never used the playable race portion of this mod, as I was never fond of playing little people lol. So I've only worked with the children replacer version.

The camera fix isn't working for me. When i'm in 1st person view than it looks like i'm 2m (6ft) tall

It could be the optional esp which comes with Race Menu.

Isn't your 'fix' just a roundabout way of saying install xvisionchildren

If you're talking about the fix that I did, then no it's not.

XVision Children uses completely different assets. It looks nothing like Children of the Sky. So using XVision Children instead of Children of the Sky, is basically like saying you should use Ketchup instead of Mustard. While they are both condiments, they are two different flavors. Not the same thing. While they both change the children npcs, they are two completely different appearances.

If I wanted to use XVision Children, I would use that instead. But I want the appearance of Children of the Sky. So I use Children of the Sky instead. The issue is the playable race of Children of the Sky overwrites vanilla assets. So my fix is a way to stop the race from overwriting vanilla assets so you can use the Children replacer portion of Children of the Sky just for the children only.

Hopefully you understand that now.

Just an example:

So I stumbled upon this mod a few days ago and just fell in love with it. There is something so adorable about a sweet little guy murdering his way through skyrim.

I am really impressed.

But I can't edit this mod at all. I tried to remove the racial abilities, the regeneration and time stop are just too over the top. The health regeneration in particular has removed any challenge to the game for me. I sneak all the time, so when I do get hit I end up at full health before the next guy finds me.

I read through the thread here and it doesn't seem like anyone else is having trouble modding this though. But no matter what I do; remove the powers from the race, delete the powers altogether, copy the race with a new name and ID with no powers... Even just changing the text description alone doesn't work right. I end up with a redundant race entry that is just floating hair and eyebrows, no powers as planned, but effectively invisible. Which really confuses me since I didn't change any of the meshes or textures. And the base race is seemingly unchanged. Load order doesn't seem to matter either. I am frustratingly at a loss.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks again for this wonderful mod.

Use the console with that command :

player.forceav combathealthregenmult 0.X

Skyrim's default is 0.4, CotS make it 0.7. You can use the command getav to check it.

forceav will keep the value through saves, so you only need to do it once. A minor inconvenience for such a great mod in my opinion. And still better than starting with only 100 as max weight you can carry, like I saw other playable child mods do. Tested an awfull lot and this one is, by far, the best out there, especially with all the clothing available.

PS : do not use setav, it will just add it to the current value, which will only make the regen that much faster.

Posted

Thanks Rossignol, at least that will let me keep playing until the next versions comes out.

Still confused as to why I couldn't make changes to the race though /shrug

Posted

So after doing some testing player.forceav combathealthregenmult 0.0 didn't work. But that is because my problem was with the out of combat heal rate. So for those like me who want to tone that down try:

Player.forceav healrate 0.#

That will reduce (or increase) the out of combat heal rate to whatever number you set.

Thanks again Rossignol for the help.
