Yes, the downgrade patcher should work (although I haven't used it in a couple of years now and maybe there's some additional quirks since the last time, check instructions/comments from that modpage for more info).

Another option is to use the steam console to download the 1.5.97 depots. Instructions are all over the internet really so any google search should give you the instructions needed for that.

Just so you know (and others) the patcher didn't work so I had to use the steam console to downgrade from 1.6.1170 to 1.6.640 and then use the patcher to download from there to 1.5.97.

Not sure if I needed it but I also used the 'Backported Extended ESL Support'. Seems to be working fine now.

For 03.2 Installing SKSE, you would also need to move skse64_steam_loader.dll to the game folder otherwise the game won't run.

That dll was removed in newer versions of SKSE. If you're using an old version refer to the install instructions from that version and integrate it into that install step.

Missing the correct version of Address Library. Or you have another incompatible version of SL installed somewhere in your game/mod manager that's overwriting the version you want to install. But most likely just an Address Library thing.

Just popped in to say "many thanks" for this excellent guide.

Two months ago I used it to build my first SE game with Vortex.

Four days ago I ripped that game down and spent three days rebuilding with MO2.

Also, why is this guide not pinned?

Thank you. Happy to know it was useful to you.

It was pinned for a while (the first year or so after I posted it). But then Ashal made the guides and tutorials index thread, included this post in there and unpinned it. I think we had several pinned posts at the time so maybe it was deemed necessary to save space or something.

Just want to say thanks for this preemptively. I'm going to be migrating from vortex to MO2 - I don't expect to salvage my saves, but this guide, much like the FO4 AAF, will be a life saver vs the painful trial and error it took to set up a (kind of) stable set up in Vortex.

You rock

Two, hopefully, quick MO2 questions:

1. How do I get the Bodyslide executable to use the correct icon in Run and on the toolbar? It was using the correct one but I've just uninstalled and reinstalled BS and now it is using the same icon as SKSE. I have the box ticked for using the exe icon for desktop shortcut.

2. If I want to e.g. run CAO on my entire data\meshes folder what do I point CAO at? The CAO Nexus site doesn't give much useful information - mainly says not to run CAO via mod managers.

Edit - Solved #1 by right clicking on the BS.exe in the Data tab and adding it to the Run executables from there.

Set CAO to Several mods and point to your ".../MO2/mods" folder. Then CAO will be able to check all your mod files. If later you decide to use CAO in a single mod switch to One mod mode and point it to the specific mod inside ".../MO2/mods/<Name of the mod>".

You don't need to run CAO through MO2 for this.

Thanks wouldn't have thought of that - the extra step wasn't required with Vortex.

Hi i need some help. My mods folder on mo2 is in %appdata% and it appears to be the reason for the warnings. This happens even when installing fnis through mo2 so I dont know what to do tbh. I hate this sort of thin but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

These are the warnings I'm getting: >>Warning: Bad installation. Generator not run from <Skyrim_Data>\Tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users. If you use a mod manager, run FNIS from its list of supported tools.<<
Skyrim SE 64bit: ??.??.?? - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\ (Steam)
>>Warning: Expected generator path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users not found<<

A search engine is your friend. There are many videos on how to install FNIS via MO2.

Both folders have additional OS permissions, depending on how you have your Windows account set up it could and likely will get in the way of MO2. That's why it's not recommended to use said folders for your games or mod files. Says so in this guide, which I'm not really sure you followed. I could tell you a bit more if you included the actual install path of your FNIS file. But it's a bit futile because at some point using /Program Files is going to be an issue (appdata maybe, but I've use a MO2 global instance with success installed in that folder).

Even though I have plenty of experience with MO2 for Fallout 4 and Skyrim LE, I've been reading through your guide in preparation for my first AE game and found it very informative.

One general question for you or anyone else on this thread...  You recommend SOS for the male body replacer (I of course used SOS in LE, and found the SE version here as well as the updated .dlls for AE on another thread).  Does anyone here have experience with The New Gentleman to get shlongs?  Is it better/worse/about the same?

Also, what's peoples experience installing HIMBO on top of SOS?  A lot of armor mods have HIMBO Bodyslide support, and HIMBO uses its own bodies with SOS schlongs.

I've been using TNG for several months now and it works fine. Nowadays compatibility is pretty much 1:1 with SOS, as long as you find niche SOS addons already ported (or port it yourself). If you don't care about SOS addons then it works out of the box, just get used to its MCM to manage settings, build the addon sets in Bodyslide and that's it, it should work out of the box with SL and any other mod unless it specifically requires SOS (aka SOS addons). Only reason I didn't include TNG in the guide is because at the time it was still in the early release days and stuff wasn't so settle as it is now.

I used HIMBO once but it's not something I want to keep in my game so I can't say much about it.

SOS/TNG: I use TNG which does everything I need. I can't speak for the stupidly large schlongs which some people go for.

SOS/HIMBO: I use HIMBO instead of SOS. I don't really do much with male armours but it's not something I've had a problem with.

Never had a problem with skin textures for the HIMBO/TNG combo.

Short answer: I don't have a valid reason to say "don't do it" and have no hesitation in saying "give it a go".

Totally agree about this guide.

Edit: HIMBO grew out of the SAM body and offers much more tweakability than the SOS body [see attached screenshot]

Note where the slider is on the right. Lots of sections available.

Thanks for that both of you!

I think I'll also give TNG a try for a short test game as I'm setting up a big playthrough, and if all goes well keep it.  Even though SOS is pretty feature complete and thoroughly tested and "just works" TNG seems more actively maintained.  There are SOS addons adapted to work with TNG on Nexus as well.

@travelmedic

Here you go for a working setup:

The New Gentleman

SkySight Skins - Male Textures and Real Feet Meshes

SkySight Skins – Schlongs of Skyrim

NO! We DO NOT need 'Schlongs of Skyrim' for this to work!

The New Gentleman Pubic Addons

Highly Improved Male Body Overhaul (HIMBO)     <- works very nicely with 'OBody'

Hoodies

Spoiler

1.1  Hoodies

1.2  CBBE

1.3  No Female Schlongs

1.4  Nothing

1.5  ESP

2.1  Saints and Seducers

3.1  Nothing

IMPORTANT:

Open up the installation in MO2 and HIDE the ESP (they won't be needed).

Hoodies for TNG

Masculine Argonian Textures (SOS-FULL)

Masculine Khajiit Textures (SOS-FULL)

Question concerning the guide, specifically step 04.3, where it mentions mods like CBPC, when I go to download the mod off of Nexus it gives me a warning that I need things like FNIS and Project New Reign installed already, but those come later in the guide than CBPC does, so I'm unsure of what to do.

The order of steps and mods to install is 100% intentional. You don't even need FNIS or Nemesis for CBPC to work really, if you check the details of CBPC's requirement it says so. In practice, nothing bad will happen because you're installing CBPC before FNIS or Nemesis (hell, it will work fine even if you test your game before adding or using FNIS/Nemesis).

You do need FNIS/Nemesis for mods adding custom animations later on, otherwise while testing you might get broken animations with T/A posing. But at the point where you install said custom animations (SL, SLAL anim packs) you should already have FNIS/Nemesis installed and ready to use.

Thank you so, SO much for answering my question and giving a detailed explanation. You wouldn't believe how on other sites I've had questions just answered with "It's supposed to be like that" with no explanation.

I'll continue following the guide, and if I have more questions later on, I'll come back! You're doing great work!
