[Suggestions needed] Recommended mods for first playthrough?

I feel like a dog chasing its tail.  A few years back, I was gifted a copy of Skyrim, but my $400 laptop with integrated GPU was not going to cut it.  However, that did not stop me from browsing mods, making a list, checking it twice, and getting a list of 150 or so mods that sounded like they would play nice together for when I was ready to buy a new PC.  Saved it in notepad, and left it.

Fast forward a bit - my hard drive failed, so I lost my mod list.  I decided at that point that enough was enough and I would buy a new PC.  I now have a computer fully able to run Skyrim, but my modlist is destroyed, so I have to start from scratch.  Furthermore, Skyrim SE is now out, so a lot of the mods I was going to use can't be used anyway.  I've researched a bit, and from the sounds of it, the majority of mods have been converted, and SE is worth using now over OldRim as its called.

 

I would therefore like to get a feel of some of the top recommended mods, and see how things have changed over the years.  I've tried using the search functionality of LL, but either I'm too incompetent to use it correctly, or some of the stuff I'm looking for has been archived.  So I have a few questions.  For reference, I intend to play on max difficulty.  This is my first play through.  I will be roleplaying a character (maaaaaybe stream it as well).  Essential mods would include Wet and Cold, Requiem (or a collection of mods to make it more RP-like), Alternative Start.  Of course this is LL, so obviously I need some mods in this category.  Defeat/Alternative Death will be essential, as I intend a perma-death/no reload game.  While my character is certainly going to start as a prude/avoid sex at all costs, over time I will certainly lose the rape struggles, so pregnancy/light inflation/etc is needed.  I wouldn't mind a hunger/thirst mod for masturbation need, or something similar.  SoS and male bodies are necessary of course.  I want my eye candy if I have to slay dragons.  Hopefully that helps shape the story.

 

1) What are some of the top mods you might recommend?  If you post a full modlist, that's great as well.

2) I can't seem to find a start-to-finish tutorial of necessary things to do for installing lots of mods.  Maybe SE works differently, but I recall Mod Organizer, Wyre Bash, needing to delete certain things before you had a "clean" Skyrim to install mods to.

3) Any tips you might recommend?  I've seen parts and pieces of various lets plays, so I have a general idea of what goes where while avoiding many spoilers.

You should go whit MO and Wrye, harder to learn how to use them but works way more better and you can more easy put up complicated loadorders.

LL seatch is terrible, I use Google and add Loverslab in the seatch line there and it goes faster.

You say that you want to have pregnancy mods installed, there is 3 of them, sadly the best one have some hickups and are tricky to install and it can go wrong, that is Beeing Female.

My self goes whit that one all the time, since I know its hickups, it have all the buffs/debuffs you want to have if you are planning to play one immerse game.

It is script heavy when loading game and cell changes, so you cant mix in that many more heavy mods.

 

One good substitute for it is Fertility mode that is lighter. My self have only tried it but likes it.

You also needs to decide if you want creature support or not.

If you want that you will need latest More Nasty Critters and creature framework.

 

For the record I always mod my game fully immerse.

 

Hard to make one mod list for you, you have already listed some of the most needed mods, but I can add Bathing in Skyrim for you.

Or go whit CPU:s mod MiniNeeds that include bathing and poping and some other odd things ?

u can try this but this is a lot of reading and learning  u must start by  "how to start & stability" <- make your game stable and ready for mods like graphics/gameplay/quests etc...

 

edit: also if you play it for first time - don't install mods like Alternate starts... don't spoil yourself

damn I envy you... I remember when I bought new laptop and play this game for first time...where my older laptop can't run gothic 2 at 20fps...XD

I was under the impression that the Alternate Start simply delayed the Helgen intro.  At least, that's how the mod description presents itself.  I intended to do that after I had developed at least a few basic skills and survived my first few days.  With the survival mods I intended to use, fighting nature and a dragon at the same time sounded like a bad idea.

Technically I have both.  I was planning to play Special Edition.  From what I read in the LE vs SE thread, the general consensus was that SE was more stable, but lacked a lot of the mod support.  However, more and more mods have been converted over to SE, so its definitely worth using SE over LE now.

 

I just skimmed through the modlist...looks like I did have a few LE that slipped in.  Thank you for pointing them out.  I have replaced them with their SE counterparts.

for lighting mods you propably need to decide if you want ELFX [enhanced lights bla bla...] or RLO [realistic ligting bla bla]

RLO in old skyrim was very FPS hungry on some places, ELFX wasn't but from what I remember, I has little worse performance overall but don't find places that eating my FPS by 20 like RLO without reason XD ... but it's only my point of view, you need to test for yourself outdoor and indoor

relighting skyrim is compatible with both from what I test some time ago in old skyrim

BUT SKYRIM SE is 64BIT not 32 like old... so you can have different results with that mods

I have an Intel Core i7 5930K CPU @3.50GHz and a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3.  Sorry for the delay, I had no idea what you were talking about originally.  Not a computer guru.  I am told this should run Skyrim (or any game) without issues though.  Hopefully I've been told correctly?

Female characters - I have been trying to figure out how the body slides work.  When I last researched bodies, UNP and CBBE were the primary two, with SevenDust and a couple others available that lacked armor/support.  I can't find the exact body/mesh/map I wanted.  The best I can tell, it was a UNP Diamonized variant.  Not quite Blessed, but somewhere in between.  More athletic, and I found a map that would add perspiration based on activity.  Not this mod exactly, but this does the same thing https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/2753-wet-function-redux/  I intend to play female, not sure how well I would RP a male PC unless he went Conan style barbarian.

1. Is HDT physics mods not a thing in SSE?  The closest thing I could find was CBP, which I don't think will handle hair or clothing.  While out and about I may wear armor, in cities I intend to wear mainly cloth/regular clothing.  This is a hardcore roleplay play-through.

 

2. Where is the Civil War Overhaul?  Is that no longer a thing in SSE?  Considering how many people used it years ago, I would have thought that would have been converted over the moment it was possible to do so.

 

3. Perhaps this question is better suited for the Adult-mods forum, but I assume enough people here have played with the quests to know anyway.  For the Amorous Adventures quests, is sex a requirement to complete all the quests, or can things stay platonic?  This might be the make or break reason to keep this mod on the list.  Friendly relations are fine of course, but I don't want to force my character into something she wouldn't go into just to complete a quest.

yeah you have great computer which should carry heavy mod list and all games

 

bodyslide program? - you want to build body UNP? build it, you can mix some bodies for example

UNP 50% + UNPB 50%  propably give you what you looking for. you can try also some of  7base 50% +UNP 50%, all you must know - you can't reach value higher than 100% at all because you can build weird looking body...

but for first part like breasts, waist, arms, legs you can reach more than 100% an more than -100% so you can combine

if you don't happy with your default UNP [100%] or CBBE[100%] you can upgrade it to your likings by adding or decreasing values on breasts, legs etc.

 

if you want your armors looks like your body you need armors that supports UUNP/CBBE bodyslide [you need to find on google for it]

 

for males

yeah you need to decide SAM or SOS,  SAM have better bodies but it's little harder to install and get to work correctly with psychics [at least for me]

 

1. for psychics - i can't help you much, you have 2 options: CBP and HDT SMP  [skinned mesh psychics], but i think that CBP is easier to install and easier to use/configure

2. i'm not sure if you looking for it...

3. I never use that mod so I don't know...

Personally, I'd take Open Civil War over trying to find a copy of Civil War Overhaul.

 

Open Civil War is 1) available normally on Nexus, 2) more stable 3) better-programmed, 4) still receiving updates, and 5) the author is making modular add-on mods, such as a mod which allows you to convince Balgruf to join the Stormcloaks (if you swing that way). It's missing a few of the features of Civil War Overhaul, sure, but the core elements - big siege battles, the ability for holds to go back and forth, etc - all all in Open Civil War.

 

It's funny. In this case, a modder being pissy and hiding their mod only resulted in a much better version of their mod being created, rendering the original mostly obsolete.

I am undecided about a few mods. 
1) My character's body.  I added the Body Slider program, and watched the tutorial by Gopher about how it works with clothing/etc.  I understand how it can manually be set to change different character attributes (arms, thighs, etc).  I was confused about how you could mix/match UNP/CBBE/7base though.  Can you explain that a little more or point me in the right direction?

2) I was going back through the combat mods.  VioLens just gives me more control over the killcam right?  In effect, if I wanted to disable, or set to 1% chance, that's the only thing it changes?  As I will be playing exclusively in 1st person, I imagine it could be jarring flipping between the two modes.

3) Any recommendations for horse armor or saddlebags?

XPMSSE's mod description says that it is compatible with Realistic Ragdoll Physics.  XMPSSE as I read it does not do this by itself.  Is this correct, or do I need both mods?

from what i know for old skyrim XPMSE have all things from Realistic Ragdolls, and i can read from XPMSSE page [changelogs] version 4.30 -> "XPMSE and XPMSSE are now based on the same code base" so propably XPMSSE have included Realistic Ragdolls because XMPSE for old skyrim included it few years ago... but if you are unsure, you can install those both mods or ask on XMPSSE mod page about that, people which use skyrim SE can give you correct answer about that

so if you want build custom body you can set  for 0 weight

you can mix different bodies  with max value 100% of all

 

 

you can also do something like that

Topmodel low 30%

7b low 20%

and nothing more [eventually little adjustments to your breasts/legs/arms], so your body can look little different from any UNP based bodies, you can get something between UNP / CBBE

 

2) personally i disable every KILLCAMS because it was little frustrating to me

different way to have killcams looking as badass [third person only] you can set [i also use this for some time]

this remove ranged attack killcams and give your very different way to melee killcams
