Arrows are way off my crosshair, need help!

So my problem is basically this: https://i.imgur.com/5pikMuS.jpg

My arrows are way off the bow and my crosshair. I looked up videos of archery to make sure it looks different in vanilla and it really does. Every other weapon is fine and the bow itself doesn't clip through anything. Here is my mods with their load order made by the latest LOOT:

As you might've noticed I do have SAM Light, Racial Body Morphs, RaceMenu with all the sliders, etc., but changing the shape of my character barely changes anything. The arrow is still pointing in a completely wrong direction, which is what makes it clip and it's really frustrating. Anyone have any idea what could be causing that?

Arrows not being centered on the crosshair is actually very common.

Especially happens when you make camera tweaks, but for the most part if your going to play in 3rd person well your out of luck....Just gotta learn where the arrow goes relative to the position of the crosshair and distance to the target.

I couldn't look at your provided picture...So if its first person I have no idear.

you can modify it a bit via skyrim.ini

like:

[Combat]
f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f1PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7

I can hit better now, but shot arrows while sneaking end up hitting the ground for some reason

I use the same settings and they work even while I'm sneaking.

I think, that they are good as a general baseline but that one of your mods might require some finetuning ?

EDIT:

just for the sake of completeness: I play with Skyrim Enhanced Camera https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/57859

But I fail to hit long distance targets in 3rd person... so I guess my 3rdperson camera/crosshair angles need adjustments too

Have you recently re-installed XPMSE?

If I remember correctly, one or two versions before of XPMSE had accidentaly turned [The Joys of Perspective] on by default.

Updating XPMSE to the latest (v 4.51) and re-install it while turning this option off may help you.

Also, XPMSE.esp should almost always should come last in your load order. If this is the order suggested by your LOOT, I rather choose not to follow this suggestion.

That happens to me too without editing the .ini, i blame either the camera or the crawl on four mods. But although i usually play archers, both are too important to miss them.^^

If your problem is that you are missing your targets vertically by using your crosshairs, then follow the directions given to you by Donttouchmethere and Worik. These are the setting provided by the STEP guide. If you are missing your targets horizontally then your problem is in one, or more, of your mods.

Oh, and by the way, you can't get to imgur from here. In the future please post your screenshot on the thread and, if you have more than one please post them in spoiler(s).

If you know how to get a screenshot onto LL ignore this paragraph. Take your screenshot (which will be .bmp format). Load that picture into Paint (or a similar program) and save as .jpg. Then take your .jpg version and drag it onto the box where you type. There is a picture of a paperclip at the point where you are supposed to drop it. Uploading will take a few seconds, don't panic. Your picture (s) will show up in a bar at the bottom. Put your cursor where you want the picture to show up (amid your text, in a spoiler, whatever) and hit the "+" sign that will be on the picture you uploaded. That will place the picture in that location. If you have more than one, simply repeat the process.

If you know how to use a spoiler on LL ignore this paragraph. There is a bar that runs across the top of the area into which you type. It has several things on it starting with Size and Font. About in the middle, just to the right of the emoji smiley face is an icon that looks like an eye. Press on this and it will open a spoiler box. Use your mouse to move the cursor inside the box. You can then type more or download pictures (see paragraph above), print "walls of text" (like load orders) and even put a video inside.

good to know, yes those crawl aimations are too important ^^

after that kind of failed sneak attack at a bunsh of SDcages bandits, there is a high chance crawling will be needed lol

Yeah I have and I have that disabled. Joy crashed my game when I had it so I had to uninstall.
I will also try putting XPMSE last if possible.

I don't think I miss my targets. The arrow is just graphically there, clipping through my hands. It's more about it being very irritating to look at than anything.
Although sometimes I do feel like it is more difficult to aim than in vanilla Skyrim, I am unsure whether or not it's caused by the arrow not being aligned.
Also, sorry about the screenshot. I was unaware that you couldn't get to imgur from here. My bad. Here it is:

It was 2016 or 2015 when I tried to make my choice between both. And since I am lazy, I didn't care about that anymore since then. :classic_rolleyes:

IFPV had some serious bugs for my purposes back then, while SEC was fine. But time has brought IFPV forward where SEC was not updated since .... 2016 ?

Depending on what you write, I might be tempted to have another look again after 3 years.

Sooooo.. GOOD NEWS!!!
I tried doing this and it worked. The arrow is much further up than before. BUT!
It is still left of my crosshair. I tried writing f1PArrowTiltRightAngle=0.7 in another line, but that didn't change anything.
Is there something I can do to make it go to the right?
BTW, here's a comparison pic, it's like this not matter in which direction I point:

Yes, it appears that the picture of the arrow is a couple centimeters (at the tip) to the left of where it is supposed to be. I would have to go back to what I said earlier, "if the problem is horizontal (as opposed to vertical) one of your mods" has displaced the arrow to the left. Always good to double check to make sure that you have the correct skeleton before going through the mods since that is trial and error and can take quite a bit of time.

Well I'm just dumb. I tried creating an unmodified character. Now, although I haven't tried that before, I have messed with my body slides to see if I could fix it, but to no avail.
A new character helped though. I'm not ready to give up my current one, though, so I will just have to mess with sliders again to try and figure out if there's a way to fix it.

I will let you guys know which slider it was when I find out, in case someone else encounters this problem.

Posted

Okay, so, I think I figured it out.

No fucking idea how I even missed this, but anything to do with hand or palm size and length, or just length for everything else that has to do with your character's arms, can mess your bow aim by a ton. If anyone else is having the same problem as me, try messing with those.

And, once again, thank you so much everyone for trying to help. The problem is now fixed.

Time to try and adapt my lizard's body.

Few more tips as i used to tweak my arrow aiming to perfection in the past... First it is good to know that if you type "refini" in console, it reloads skyrim.ini (and i think skyrimprefs.ini too). So you can make changes to those files and see how they effect without restarting Skyrim.

My current Skyrim.ini contains:

[Camera]
fOverShoulderPosX = 20.0000
fOverShoulderPosZ = -20.0000
fOverShoulderCombatPosX = 30.0000
fOverShoulderCombatPosZ = 20.0000
fOverShoulderCombatAddY = 0.0000

[Combat]
f1PArrowTiltUpAngle = 1.5
f3PArrowTiltUpAngle = 2.8
f1PBoltTiltUpAngle = 1.5

I'm hitting bullseyes in target circles from near and far, 1st and 3rd person. Spells may be aiming a little bit off vertically, i think i need to correct aim upwards. I don't have joy of perspective or other camera mods. Or "No Stagger Camera - 1st and 3rd person" i have but shouldn't affect aiming.

And if your arrows are hitting ground when sneaking, you might want to change the fOverShoulderCombatPosZ higher.

Not tested with crossbows.

I had a similar problem, where my aim was way off on magic and bows.

I turned off The Joy of Perspective mod out of curiosity if that's the problem...

Well yeah... It was the problem.

At least for me.

If you have any perspective change mods turn them off one after the other to start troubleshooting
