Looking for suggestions

Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this is okay. Anyway...

After much debate I finally bought Skyrim and am now looking to mod it. When I modded Oblivion Fejeena provided a very helpful guide for getting started & I was wondering if anything like that exists for Skyrim? And fallouts 3, Vegas, & 4 for that matter but mostly Skyrim at the moment.

I'm also looking for suggestion on preferred mods. I'd like any suggestions for any good mods both adult and otherwise just to help get me going before I dive into the sea of mods that are out there. Some things I'm looking for in particular are mods to improve or alter the looks of the beast folk, and no I don't want them more human, just enhanced. Also I'm looking for anything that makes the world itself look more vibrant. I've avoided Skyrim for while in part because everything just looks so dreary.

for adult mods there is this basic framework guide:

but what version of skyrim do you have? 32bit/SLE or 64Bit/SSE?

edit:

(note all of these links are for 32Bit so most of them will need porting for 64Bit if a 64 version is not available)

Oops, sorry I forgot to mention the version. I have the Legendary edition not the special edition.

Thanks those all look like good mods. At least the ones I can look at. For some reason Nexus isn't letting me log in right now.... strange.

Okay so I've been going through the install guide & its been very helpful so thank you. But I got to the part where it talks about installing the nasty creatures mods & I ran into a snag. In Oblivion I really like the Flame Atronach (I hope I spelled that right) & installed the Lovers creature mod for fun times. To my disappointment all the creatures mod did was slap a penis on everything. So I couldn't have fun times the way I wanted with the flaming beauty. Yea, I know having a crush on literal flames is illogical but that's why its fantasy. So I gotta ask is the Nasty Creatures mod the same way? Because I couldn't figure it out and if this is going to be the same mono-gendered scenario I don't want to go through the effort of installing it. But I'm always up for monster girls; I don't yet know what the flame atronachs look like in this one but I'm hoping I still like them.

And lastly thanks for all the mod suggestions so far. I can finally get on Nexus again so as I examine them I'm getting excited to play.

More Nasty Critters doesn't slap a dick on Flame Atronachs, but rather keeps their vanilla (female) appearance and adds animations that keep them as females and place the (N)PC in the male role. So if you want to stick it inside a bunch of (sexy) magical living flames instead of the other way around (as it happened in Oblivion), you can.

The only downside to this is that SL was never meant to account for female creatures so the code may get confused and think that the (N)PC is the victim and the Atronach is the Aggressor/Male (as it happens with all of the other male-based creatures), but the anims will look fine and there aren't many mods (if any at all) that take those stats into account anyway.

Sweet, I can finally have my "hot" girlfriend..... I regret nothing. So thanks to that last bit of knowledge I have finished installing all the essentials from the guide and am ready to start with the extras. Just one more question as I do. Does Skyrim have a limit on mods like Oblivion did? and if so what's the limit?

There's a limit of 255 plugins (ESPs/ESMs) loaded at the same time, but if you absolutely need to use more than those, it can be worked around by merging two or more plugins together either by using xEdit (with the Merge Plugins scripts if doing everything manually is too much for you) or the standalone Merge Plugins program. Small armor/clothing/weapon mods with no scripts (or very few of them) are the best candidates for merging; bigger mods can also be merged but things get a bit more complicated there.

*but never merge SexLab/MNC/Creature Framework based mods, it would stop them from working right....if not crash the game.

Thanks, but I guess that wasn't my last question after all. I'm afraid I've been a little overwhelmed. Every mod seems to require ten others. I tried looking into body replacers but couldn't figure them out. Is there one overall body type for each gender like there was in Oblivion? Or are they race specific? And what's the Bodyslide all about? I thought I found the mod for males with the Schlongs of Skyrim but after installing it my game stopped working. I'm guessing I did something wrong but I can't tell; the instructions are seemingly non-existent. Its possible I messed up the race compatibility mod before that but it had fairly detailed instructions so I doubt it. In the end I'm just getting lost in this. Everything works similarly to Oblivion but is just enough different that I can't seem to get a grasp on it. I'm currently reinstalling the game but once that's done I'm dreading round two with these mods. Any further advice would be appreciated.

For female body it is pretty much CBBE (or some variant of it) OR UUNP (or some variant of it).  Your best bet here is to take a look at the various pre-sets on nexus and here and see which one you like, see which body type it comes for, and then also see what armour/clothing packs you want to add are available for that body type, also take a look at the various screen shots and what not, some people will say what body type they use for them, and you might decide I like this or that.

Bodyslide allows you to create the body you want, boob size, arms legs pretty much anything you want, have a favourite female body you like, you can given time and effort recreate her body shape through bodyslide, save it as a preset then apply it so that any armour you have installed, providing it comes with the correct bodyslide files now fit that body, rather then seeing a great armour that is hgec or double melons or what not.

Also as you keep reinstalling you might want to take a look at mod organiser, though it does have a pretty steep learning curve, especially if you came from nexus mod manager or oblivion mod manager, but it should stop you from needing to keep reinstalling the game.

Thanks, not gonna lie I made my last post while in a frustrated panic. There is just so much stuff for Skyrim its hard to get a handle on it. But I'm going a lot slower now and I think that's the key. When I worked on Oblivion it was all very fast trial and error stuff but Skyrim is a little more touchy and easily messed up. I've made a successful female body with bodyslide and am quite pleased with it. But I was wondering two things is there a way to do the same for males? and is it possible to create different body types for different races? I like the body I made but while its good for the bulk of the races it doesn't really fit the orcs and elves.

Also can you give me a link to mod organizer? I mostly install manually but sometimes use Wrye Bash for Oblivion; but for skyrim its been exclusively manual installation because for some reason when I try to use Wrye Bash for Skyrim it crashes. The only time it opened properly is when I first installed it.

Grab the mod organiser legacy version from here, it has been updated for the nexus changes earlier this year https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6194?tab=files

The other option of course is to use mo2, which is what I am currently using.  Though if you do go for mo2, do not install it in the game directory, as that seems to be somewhat hit and miss for people and getting things working, for me it does not work if installed there for this game or special edition, but oddly enough does for fallout 4.  Also make sure to choose the portable option when, I think it is first run.

As for my install, I started with a graphics and utility guide, this one I think http://www.skyrim-beautification-project.com/mods/essential/

After getting that sorted and working, I then started adding the devious devices/sex lab stuff as well as quests and armour/weapons mods.

Though my main problem is that I seem incapable of finalising my damn load order/mod list, constantly changing npc replacers, level list stuff and what not, then having to go back and manually re-do my bash/merge overwrite mod to make sure they do what I want rather than what the automated patchers think they should be, all of which takes ages and ages, last time it took me about 30 hours or so to re-do it all.

Not really. There's a SOS Bodyslide project floating around, and it kinda works (as in, it has different sliders to alter the shape of the body), but it's pretty much beta/proof of concept, or at least it was the last time I tried it.

There's also Shape Atlas for Men (SAM), which includes custom morphs for extremely muscular and obese body shapes (and any combination thereof). But it doesn't have as much support/mods made for it as SOS does, and the mod and all of its related content is restricted to VectorPlexus' page as per his EULA. You can give it a try if you really want, but I think SOS is better all around.

There are ways around it, yes, but none of them are easy or "clean".

The cleanest and most straightforward/compatible one that I can think of (which isn't really clean or straightforward) is to build all of your bodies in Bodyslide with the Zeroed Sliders preset and then use the BodyGen functionality from RaceMenu to assign random morphs to NPCs on runtime. You can specify body shapes on a per race or per NPC basis, so in theory you could use it to assign specific presets to each race.

I think there's a thread about it somewhere in the forum in case you want to give it a shot at some point.

As for male bodyslide things, I suppose SAM - Light plus SAM Morphs for Racemenu option is the closest to female body slide for now, though SAM Morphs by default defines individual body shape by NPC's rather than by race (You can customize them in theory). The Full version of SAM have more customizeable options for body shape by race (see similar post in vectorplexus.com) easily, though.

[Added]: Customize SAM Morphs by tweaking its templetes.ini to bodyshape by race for Racemenu's Bodygen features is the probably the most straightforward way Blaze69 explained to you above.

For different body shapes by race, you can also check Racial Body Morph - Diverse Body Types and Height by Race and Gender, based on the actor's skeleton tweaks (so that you unfortunately cannot customize them easily). You can combine this one either with SoS (full or light) or with SAM (full is not recommended for this case, but light plus Morphs without skeleton scaling (by default)) would be fine).

Thanks for all the links. Though the body work sounds like its going to be a pain. I'll keep looking at all this and see where it leads but I think i can figure things out from here *crosses fingers*. So I guess I'll just leave off where I began, if anyone would like to suggest any other mods they think are good or that I might need later please link, and thanks again everybody.

Sigh...., I ran into another problem. This one didn't present itself right away so I missed it at first. It deals with the Bodyslide. The first body I made with it used the Outfit/body CBBE with the Curvy Preset then I altered it all over the place to see what I could make. It worked okay but had no jiggle mechanic. So later I set the Outfit/Body to "CBBE body HDT" with the HGEC preset and altered the High Weight settings & leaving the Low Weight settings alone to create a wider range, I checked the build morphs box and hit build. It seemed to work just fine I made a female character tested out the slider and it even worked with the RaceMenu sliders without problems.

But later as I actually started playing the game and had my first encounter with a female NPC where there was an issue. When the NPCs get naked they look fine for a few seconds but as soon as they moved their breasts and butt stay in place while the rest of them moves on, creating a warped stretching effect. I've tried solving this on my own by trying different ways to create the body and looking at all the FAQs I could find on the subject but nothing helped. Through my testing I've found that any of the bodied I make without the jiggle physics work fine but any of the ones that have it cause the stretching problem with NPCs but never my own character. So does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? and how to fix it?

The "stretching breasts and butt" bug you describe is a pretty common one, and it happens when you try to use an HDT weighted body with a very old version of the XP32/XPMS skeleton (v1.93 or older, IIRC).

Try reinstalling XPMSE (notice the "E" at the end, it's NOT XP32 and NOT XPMS) making sure it overwrites any other files and loads after any other mods (if using MO) and see if that helps. Make sure to grab the latest version, which should be around 4.X.

I used this skeleton https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68000?tab=description which I think is the right one. I did try reinstalling it as well as its requirements but the bug still persist. What about the HDT itself? could that be the problem? I've tried running with the physics extender installed and without it, with no real impact either way. But as far as I know that's the only other thing for HDT that isn't just using it. So I'm I missing something on that front?

Yeah, that's the right skeleton.

And no, I really don't think HDT itself is causing the bug. Every single time the bug you describe was mentioned it turned out it was caused by a wrong skeleton, but nothing else.

What mod manager (if any) are you using? Maybe you did install XPMSE properly but you installed some other mod with an older skeleton afterwards and overwrote XPMSE's files by mistake. Otherwise, do you use any mods that could be editing the race data and pointing them to a separate skeleton path? Any custom race mods, maybe?

I only just installed mod organizer but haven't actually used it yet, everything I've installed so far has been manual. No I don't have any custom races yet thought I definitely want to add some later. So far though the only things I have installed that deal with races at all are a mod that adds fins to the argonian hair style and an alternate texture. But just to put it all on the table for consideration here are all the mods I have in their current load order. Speaking of load orders is there guide or program for this? I think my load order is fine now as the sexlab guide covered most of these but my list will most certainly will expand.

Dawnguard.esm

Dragonborn.esm

HearthFires.esm

Sexlab.esm

CreatureFramework.esm

Schlongs of Skyrim - Core.esm

Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp

SkyrimUI.esp

UIExtensions.esp

FNIS.esp

RaceMenu.esp

RaceMenuMorphsCBBE.esp

RaceMenuPlugin.esp

ArgonianFins.esp

Genderhorses.esp

SexlabTools.esp

MoreNastyCritters.esp

genderhorsespatch.esp

Hentai Cretuers.esp

SexlabMatchMaker.esp

SLAnimationLoader.esp

Schlongs of Skyrim.esp

SOS - VectorPlexus Regular Addon.esp

And the mods I've added that don't have an esm/esp are as followed: HDT physics Extention, Jcontainers, skse, Edhildils Argonian CBBE Skin Texture, And of course the previously mentioned skeleton.

Yeah, well, you really should start using MO. Otherwise, what's the point of using it if you are going to manually install your mods to the Data folder (which MO is specifically built to avoid)?.

Do this: go to your Data folder, delete any folders and files that are not the vanilla ESMs and BSAs, and then verify game files on Steam so it redownloads any missing/edited files. Now that you have a fully vanilla game, reinstall SKSE (only mod ever that needs to be installed to the actual game folder) and start using MO to install and manage your mods. There are tutorials around on how to get MO fully set up and working and how to use it in case you need them (pretty sure Gopher had some and they are good AFAIK).

Once you've done that, reinstall XPMSE and always let it load last after all of the othe mods on the left pane, that should force it to overwrite any other mod files and make sure it works as intended.
