I'm happy they backed down on Ciri though. I was torn between my inclusive sensibilities and my understanding of what Ciri's character actually means, knowing how many plot distortions they were going to twist about just to fit her in as a person of color. Like just explaining the lineage would have been a huge departure. Plus just I wasn't looking forward to hearing all the racists come out and shriek about how mad it made them, then all the SJWs come out and say anybody who doesn't love this Ciri is racist... ugh... so tired of the identity war. Can I just watch a fucking show without everybody having to plant political flags everywhere? Christ. Fringilla is a good compromise. Admittedly it doesn't jive with lore but this is infinitely better than Ciri. Yen does look pretty soft in her headshot. Maybe the actress can deliver it. I'm still not hopeful. I can't remember the last time I saw an adaptation of a video game (yes I ALSO read the books but lets realize the reason this is getting made is the games) that wasn't utter shit. Also the writers and showrunners seem to be dying to insert their anachronistic ideals into the show instead of working with what makes Witcher great; ironic, sadly smiling fatalism. FauxFurry Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 One of the greatest appeals of anthropomorphic animal stories lies in their ability to completely side-step most if not all Identity Politics related problems as well as the subject of historical/mythological accuracy. They only circumvent all of them if the characters are all part of a mono-gender race with their own unique culture like Chakats, so that isn't going to happen to frequently even then.

Without wading into what's proper and what's not, the actual studio purpose behind this sort of thing is to generate controversy which gets people talking which promotes the movie. Will YOU see the movie with blue-race actor?" It's not a 'progressive' reason they stir up racists and get them on the warpath. See, if they wanted to write an original, admirable leading-role-hero character that was a person of color or under-represented minority they could write one. They have that power.. they're Hollywood. They're not being inclusive when they simply replace one race with another, instead they're monetizing race-baiting, and it's reprehensible. The racists are the producers who push for it, because its a cynical ploy to gain money that raises racial tensions for profit, instead of for progress. It's just blacksploitation 2.0

I agree with your assessment that they shud just write in a new character for diversity instead of making Fringilla VIGO a black woman.

Yeah right. but this movie was filmed by a very small Polish company, they did not have the financial means to do it better. Something like that is called improvising.

And even if that film isn't convincing today, not everything was bad. I did like the roles of Ciri, Calanthe and Borch was exactly as I had imagined him from the books. Now, in the year 2018 I must say that I've seen better works from hobbyists or student directors when they create their final piece in their university studies. ?Maybe we should hope for a student film club to get done right?
