what's your favorite companion?

Recommended Posts

1. Dogmeat (silence is blissful)

2. Ada (Customize-able AF, gives me junk and don't complain about me picking junk up, made her full-Assaultron, kicks Ass)

3. Nick (His Commentary kept me amused longer than most other followers)

4. Cait (Localized Version has a much more enjoyable Voice, Battlecries are hilarious)

The rest is either bland or plain annoying. (i probably just triggered someone)

Piper doesn't shut up, and every time i see Preston i want to shoot his Face - with a Fatman.

Im kinda attached to Curie, but for someone smart she says a lot of dump things, like she still refuses to accept that prewar-society norms

and behaviors are pointless now. NO CURIE I WILL NOT PUT THIS MESS IN A BAG FOR EVIDENCE! NO-ONE F*CKIN CARES ANYMORE!

Pre stong back 4 (the one that alllows you to fast travel when over encumbered) dogmeat, after that non, they all annoy the hell out of me with either their comments or stupid stupid ai, even the ai overhauls do not seem to do very much in making the more useful in my view.

Only companion I ever got the perk for was curie and that surprised the hell out of me as all we did was run around and kill things.  Though I was level 100ish at the time with maxed out charisma.

A random scavenger of my liking. She talks as little as the protagonist, only occasionally that is. Took me more than a year to push her affinity w/o console cheat up to the limit. The risk of an affinity collapse is minimal, even under friendly fire.

I play the first run since November 2015 (aye, I'm a moron) and have sampled every prefab companion. But as interesting as their affinity quest might be, they easily become a deep disappointment directly afterwards, and this by quite different reasons. Methinks Bethesda has calculated the endgame, thus game over, not long after one has gained the companion perk, the final trophy.

Hands down, Heather Casdin by LLamaRCA.  She's incredibly well voiced acted (as good or better than vanilla imo) hooked in to the game's locations and quests (will comment on them as you play, etc.) and generally just more believable and fun to have around.  She doesn't count as a regular follower, so if you're not using a follower mod augment, you can have Heather and any other vanilla follower - and they will have party banter together.

Definitely worth checking out if you haven't played through with her.  I recommend leaving Vault 111, talking to Codsworth, then going to pick her up before heading to Concord - as she has content and voice cues for the entire game.

If you do end up using Heather, note that by default she has a nevernude unique body. This mod by LLamaRCA resolves that and allows you to Bodyslide her to whatever you prefer.

I hear you... with vanilla companions, I found their post affinity quest content to be sorely lacking.  I would often find myself having "the talk" after reaching max affinity.... about how much they care about me, and how we're great friends or more than just friends, etc. - only to then say "It's time we split ways" and sent them to a settlement, to never pick them up again. lol

for me it's Curie, she's pretty cute, from what i have been told she's terrible for combat, but since i tend to use her as a packmule i never really noticed

Actually, from an Actor Value and AI package perspective, Curie is the BEST companion to have. The others cannot compare to her until you (and they) reach around level 105 in the game!!! Her combat AI (accuracy) is the best you can get... even better than McCready / Cait. :)

And that french accent. That fucking french accent ... <drools> :D

Agree 1000% :) Heather is WAY better than the vanilla companions. And if I ever find out who voiced her, Im going to propose marriage to that girl.. LOL!

i'm downloading the heather mod, from what i hear i just set up a temp camp near her spawn, so i might just start up a harem with her and curie since she doesn't use the companion slot, i never ventured past concord yet and i'm already lvl 26, i just hope she won't require any combat, i desperately need to upgrade from my pipe piss-tol

Heather Casdin is my favorite for females. She's good in a fight, well voiced and not that hard to develop a relationship with. I also like her back story with ties to the Brotherhood. I had used Ellen the Cartographer for a while but her complaining as I tended to Brotherhood missions was too much for me. You'd think that one would not piss off the person they hired as an escort.

As to Rebecca's concern, she's got her own weapons and isn't shy of using them. I won't spoil her backstory but she does haver her reasons.

For a male companion I use 'Bill', available here...

https://rd.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26467

He's a cut content NPC but he's good in a fight and will answer if I ask him how he's doing. Some of his replies are kind of 'old man sage' style. The modder that posted him got banned for some reason but the file is still there.

And last but not least, Dogmeat. give him a backpack that has a carry weight of 150 lbs and you'll be off to a good start. With him around you can get a good night's sleep in the open and he won't bug out in a fight.

Ada or Gage are by far the most useful in combat, otherwise Strong is both entertaining and useful when you give him one of the miniguns from Skibadaa's weapon pack.

I like Strong's commentary, in general.  It's rather amusing.  I did (not a mod) convert him to a human female, then altered the character with Race Menu to look like She-Hulk.  This made it even funnier.  I used an Atomic Body vairant, unique followers, green skin, and set height scale to like 1.3.  Lots of fun!

This one is actually really well done as a mod..  https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24680

It turns Nora into a companion who survives with you.  They use in game lines already in place and she has a surprisingly vast commentary setup.

Other NPC's react to her as well, because the reactions are already built into the game for female character playthroughs.

The best part is she completely keeps your customization from the startup.

I find Nick to be rather entertaining though his likes and dislikes are a bit annoying. For me it has to be Cait. Likes stealing, haggling and generally hoarding as many caps as possible, which makes her an ideal early game companion. Oh and that accent. Not to trigger any Curie-ites but Irish>French accent any day.

I'm a Gage fan myself.  I love the Nuka World DLC and just can't get enough of it and Gage is a blast.  He's the real deal.  I do a couple tweaks to his face (like fix that nose of his) and away we go, harassing the Commonwealth!  He's also fathered more children in my games than Danse has.

I'm partial to cute raider girls I find out in the wasteland.

They're kind of panicky though. Raiders have this idle animation where they think they hear something and start shooting randomly for a few seconds. One of my gals did that in Diamond City and accidentally hit someone, then all of the guards went nuts and we had to hightail it out of there. Good times.

The same guy, Stephen Russell also did Codsworth's voice. And a TON of voices for Skyrim.

THAT'S why he sounds oddly familiar!  He plays a ton of voices in Skyrim yes, but Erikur is the one that sticks out - as he's got a LOT of interaction with the player in the Amorous Adventures mod.  He's somewhat of a deviant in that mod.... pretty entertaining.  It's funny, in Skryim, many of his characters sounded similar, in that you could tell it was the same actor.  In Fallout 4 - I never would have guessed that Codsworth and Nick Valentine were the same actor.  I knew Codsworth and Whitechapel Charlie are, and that makes sense, since they are both Handy models.
