Best Vanilla Waifus/Husbandos

Who are Skyrim's best waifus or husbandos for you and/or your character in a roleplay situation

For me it's:

Toppest Tier:

  • Elisif, because she's possibly the cutest vanilla NPC (yes, using mods but also starting from a base of character background) and she's the embodiment of a fair ruler wanting the best for her people, you can see she has a heart of gold.
  • Serana, because no other NPC gives you so much background and romance in a questline, she's the one the dragonborn connects the most with through dialogue, she grows on you and you care about her.

Top Tier:

  • Lydia, because obviously, she's the first NPC that accompanies you and shares your adventures. You also end up caring for her and finding a mod to make sure she doesnt get killed by a random giant, she's also the cutest housecarl.
  • Isolda, because she's the first commoner you help and you can see she's a good wife to settle in with, and have a comfy life as merchants.
  • Muiri. Honestly, I like her only if I play a more evil asassin type, because she's obviously damaged, but if you're a dark person, you have have that in common with her.
  • Farkas if I play a girl, because he's the friendliest of the first high-rank companions you meet, and he's kind of dorky and adorable in a way

As I like girls, I'm finding trouble finging good husbands for any of my female characters so I was also hoping to get some suggestions on males

I have this thief girl (A rarely cute Argonian) and I was hoping to find her an adventure companion who can also sneak and steal stuff

But there are no good thief NPCs who can adventure with you and marry you are they?

I was thinking Brynjolf maybe but obviously, a mod is needed for that

Have you noticed how the best spouses are exactly the ones you can't have unless mods? Reminder Lydia was unmarriageble at first too.

Why does Bethesda continue to troll us so much?

What's your list?

PS:

Consider beauty mods such as

The Ordinary Women

Skyrim Beautiful Followers

BTRH Waifu

Bjin Stuff

Toccata Elisif

If we're talking vanilla, no-expansions, no mods wives, then supposedly Sylgja is considered one of the best followed by Ysolda. I've heard of a lot of people who favor Aela, as well. For guys, you pretty much can't beat Farkas. He's awesome.

If you add mods and such... there's just too many.

Just to clarify.. what do you mean by vanilla?  Just vanilla npc's? or Vanilla game with no mods..   because unmodded Serana cannot be married.

Or do you just mean a traveling companion type deal.

I always liked Hadvar tbh. Falk seems nice but I don't think you can marry him. I like Balgruuf too but more as a friend.

Just vanilla NPCs

As I implied, modding them is acceptable. Modding them to be marriageble is too just because Bethesda was making the best candidates the only unavailable ones for some reason.

My personal preference is for Brelyna Maryon, the Dark Elf girl from the College of Winterhold.  Something about her rings true for me.  She's the only NPC I've ever had a character marry in-game.

Never understood the love Aela or Farkas get.  Both seem pretty dull to me.  Not that Brelyna or any other vanilla NPC is an ocean of depth and complexity, but those two particularly seem utterly uninteresting.

Gun to my head, Mjoll would be my second choice of wife.

Husbands, you're SOL IMO.

I really hate the way mer look in TES. Human races are potato-ish enough and you have to screw them up evem more with weird crap.

However, after installing BTRH Waifu I could see a really cute version of Brelyna, and you're right. Should've included her in the list. If I was rolpeleying a College mage character she woulde definitely make the top choice.

And after seeing some replies here...

Considering most people only seem to like Farkas, but he's not the best choice for that thief girl i mentioned (He's just too noisy and trigger happy and always messes up my stealth)

I think I'll go with Brynjolf and that mod that allows it.

top 3 waifus

1 - Frea

2 - Elisif (just gotta love having the "High Queen of Skyrim" as a follower/wife)

3 - Rikke (would be #1 except have to side with imperials or not do civil war quest)

husband

1 - Ahtar (think that is his name ... the Solitude executioner)

Vanilla I always thought Ysolda looked nice same as Aela and I never saw why so many people changed how she looked to me she looked great the way that she was. Brelyna seemed good as well. I could never get past not punching sapphire in the face when walking past her.

For male I have no clue as I've never played a male character in a game where I have a choice on who and what to play.

I think you are not able to marry some to prevent quest givers from getting their quests broken.

Oh yes. I honestly cannot play my game without it. Bishop is a dream-man.

Wenches and storeowners are lovely but underrated.

Too bad Saadia and Hroki aren't marriable in vanilla.

Camilla Valerius is the way to go since Taarie looks awful -even with mods- despite having a nice fashion taste.

Mjoll is also a good match if your are into warmaidens and "do good things for people you don't even know" roleplay.

Farkas is an endearing character because he's awkward and people treat him like he's slow, but he's still the softest, sweetest, and kindest member of a group of hardened mercenaries. Somebody who you can believe will be there for you because he cares about you.

Plus Aberin did a wonderful job with him.

I have never played skyrim romance but that's only because you can't romance any females and have a girl on girl romance.

Farkas was alright till I played the game for awhile and noticed that he was one of the buggiest characters in the game he was always getting some type of bug. I had one where he would run up pull out his sword and say something about his leader wanting him to help me then he'd sheath his sword then pull it again and repeat over and over and over till you went die mother  effer and control kill and resurrect his ass once I was back out of town. When I did his mission to change him human he spent the hole quest asleep because I had to use the console to keep him from moving and talking.

Why not pick the adoring fan for your male romance person.

Which is exactly why it was made, because too many mods exist where you can have a girl on girl romance. Skyrim mods lack in terms of male kinship.

On the topic of things that annoy the crap out of me regarding romance and family in Skyrim

  • Every character with depth is not marriageable, everyone else, is just plain and boring. Whatever makes them interesting is more of an immersive roleplay thing as they are all driven by the same "quest"... marry, move to your house, go make me a sammich etc.... You could at least make some extra dialogue options, a kiss/hug thing that doesnt require mods and the possibility of every spouse to also become a follower or something. But no... we have to get mods for all of that.
  • Seriously lacking in male husbands
  • Not many good spouses/followers for stealth characters
  • No Argonian males, only 2 females iirc
  • No  Khajiits at all
  • No Khajiit or Argonian adoptable kids
  • Also, no Bosmer
  • Seriously. I hate sjws with all my heart, but for a game where fantasy allows extreme racial diversity, it sure as hell bothers me that there's so much lack of it here.

The Skyrim Romance mod is fully fleshed out, fully voiced, and catered to a demographic that lacked quality mods, so it deserves some appreciation in that respect... but I can't help but be annoyed on practically every level by the character. I hated the way he treated this magical superhuman with unrivaled power like she was weak and helpless, or how he talked down to the character if she gave any response he didn't approve of, all the while making cringeworthy sexual comments about her.

It would have been fine if there was an affinity system, where doing and saying things he didn't approve of influenced, or ended the relationship, but the only interactions that meant a damn where when you were seduced by his "charm?" and his interactions with the other npc's in the mod were merely filler.

Oh mood?

I would kill to be able to make a fleshed-out "romance" mod akin to Skyrim Romance without...that aspect.

Anyways, on topic, IMO the best vanilla wife is Borgakh because I need orc warrior women in my life and the best husband is Farkas.

I would love to have the talent and patience to make a mod half as well done as Skyrim Romance... adult, or not; Skyrim or not. I just don't find the character edgy and endearing, so much as I find him... rude.

Of course, that's just one mans opinion about a mod inherently made for women.
