Nessa Posted November 3, 2016 Author Posted November 3, 2016 Whoa, you were totally right about kinetic weapons! That's apparently where it's at now. I just started a new game, and completely zonked a superior force that was using lasers. You know.... I'm not sure Paradox can handle that whole "balance" thing.... In other news.... got the shape done for the ... I think interceptor. I'll try a few experiments to see if I can do something that always evaluates negative. I'm determined to have organized clothing darn it!

Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 And yes it would! Tried it out on the quickie mod I just released. So everything should be all nice and organized by next update.
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 OK for ships.... Elves: Smooth, shiny, sleek. Probably with sealife inspiration. (I know, but fish are the best for sleek!) VERY shiny. Drow: A mix between Romulan and Imperial. (What? I can't get over how Drowish Birds of Prey look, plus: Star Destroyer! Since I can't make up my mind, BOTH.) I may even do a slightly different ship style for Eilistraeens just because. We'll see. **** So I finally ran into the space dragons. I was all ready to go and take it out when.... The curators say it's the last one!? I can't kill the last one!!!!! So I left it alone in peace. Plus I was thinking, OK, dragon... can it talk? Instead of blowing it up how about some attempt at communication? Having one of those monsters fight -for- you would be a lot better than just killing it!!! Which got me thinking. How about striking deals with some of these monsters? Say, protect one system? That's more rewarding than what I've run into so far.

How do you know killing it isn't just the beginning? n_~ They actually did a good job making all of the Leviathans feel different and there's quite a lot of complexity to some of the quest chains involving them. The Enigmatic Fortress is my favourite so far! I also hope I'll run into the Infinity Sphere in my new game because I heard there's like a trillion different ways to resolve it depending on your ethics!
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 Oh well then I take it back! Maybe I'll try and go after it after all. There's one other nitpick I have, which is totally, completely, and in all ways super dorky and in no way something Paradox should ever fix. I'm the queen looking after all my people, right? How can I justify so many deaths of my people just to answer some mystery? <-- Likely it's time for me to play as a Drow. A Drow queen won't have such ethical questions.
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 Oh yeah, the space station thingy! I never had a chance to fight it in the last game but this time, one of my poor science ships jumped in right on top of it. Which got me a little scared of it actually. Because.... my science ship got taken out so fast it didn't even register the station was in the system. Not surprising you say? Well... ... my science ship was one of those advanced ones from Alpha mod with 3000 shield strength. If that was taken out in one second, I'm scared to send my fleet there.
Princessity Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 The first time I went to disable it, of my giant fleet pretty much only a handful of battleships survived and it took them foreeeeeeeverrr to finish it off! Although in my case the fortress was literally across the galaxy so my reinforcments took ages to join the fight. If it had been closer to my empire it would have been way easier to keep pressure on it. But yah it hurts XD Only go in there if you can easily remake your fleet afterwards. (Oh also! Its shield regeneration is unfair. I think it's one of the few things that justifies equipping disruptors XD)
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 So it can get through shields -and- has super shield regeneration? Great. Well perhaps once I deal with a few troublemakers, I'll outfit my fleet with shield killing weaponry and tons of armor. After all, a threat like that needs to be neutralized for the future security of our kingdom. (Found an excuse! HAHA!) OH, ever used one of the monsters to win a war? In my previous game, I wasn't doing very well (before I took your kinetic weapon advice), and my fleets were getting hosed pretty much every fight. So... I united everybody and got the opposing empire to follow my fleet. (Not so simple!) I managed to get that dreadnaught thing between me and the enemy fleet. It -totally- killed them all!

XD Awww I tried that but never managed to do that! I once attacked another empire just so I could get inside their territory to fight the dragon and I was hoping they'd fly into the system while I was fighting it but they never did ._.
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 Yeah the hard part was getting their fleet to engage. I eventually managed to do it by constantly blowing up their spaceports. In reality, I think I was unbelievably lucky. Had they warped into the system when the dreadnaught was on the other end, they might just have wiped me out instead.
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 So um..... anybody run into the fallen empire elf guys who like wearing gowns? Fixed next update!
Princessity Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Awww! That wasn't a feature? XD By the by is there any way to reduce the odds of elves and dark elves taking fallen empire slots like all the time? It seems like they end up as FEs every game I check, I feel it's becoming a bit predictable ^^
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 I really need to have a good look at -all- drow/elf spawns in fact. (Been so crazy busy with portraits I've forgotten the rest of the mods! ) For fallens, I'm not sure what to do. If you have 1 fallen, it's a 1/4 chance. (2/5 with both elves and drow running. ) Which basically means... a full 4 fallens is most likely to net you one elf and one drow fallen. Only thing I can think of at the moment are two options. If there's a place that controls when fallen are picked mess with that. Though... could be a conflict issue. Find a way to point to an existing non-elf fallen inside the Drow/Elven fallen initializer. THEN I could keep down elf fallens.

Paradox officially added the Blorg to the game in Heinlein and people noticed that they occasionally spawn as an FE,w tiht he name and everything. In fact I just looked at their prescripted_countries entry and there's a curious line they have: spawn_as_fallen = yes # overrides spawn_enabled for fallen empires Maybe that's what does it?
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 By the way, do Elven/Drow fallens give quests and such? I've only played 2 games with 1.3.1 and they've always been on the other side of the galaxy. Hummm... have you looked into the way that Blorg do it? Now THAT is interesting! So you can have a prescripted show up as a fallen, just like that? I wonder if you could still specify special initializers though? I mean, the elves need those Avari worlds.
Princessity Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 I have gotten a total of 1 quest from fallen empires EVER XD Keepers in my first Leviathans game asked me to give them a scientist and I did but the quest was bugged in 1.3 (they fixed it in 1.3.1) so I got no rewards for it. Later I invaded them and my excuse was umm... well... mostly the shiny ring world... BUT ALSO GIVE ME BACK MY SCIENTIST YOU BUTTS! Those weren't elves tho, your mods weren't up to date at the time so I had them disabled.

Even if not, couldn't you technically use an event that searches for elven fallen and changes their world to Avari when the game starts? I think your normal avari start does something like that already (correct me if I'm completely wrong please XD)
Nessa Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 Only thing I had happen was they wanted some of my people for a reserve. But they weren't elves. Neat thing was I found the reserve later on. (They actually gave me access to their space!!) It was a world called the "Preserve" with all sorts of aliens pops living in isolation. Rather neat. But I died before I was ever strong enough to invade. By the way, do Elven/Drow fallens give quests and such? Oh, and there's a new landscape for Gaia worlds that ... seems to be unused in vanilla so far. I switched my Avari gaia worlds to use it instead of continental for the next update.
Nessa Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 Just had to share this. In my current game, I've been wondering what the heck happened to the Ascari. Usually they take over a whole section of the galaxy before I even find them. Well, I just found their homeworld. They were taken out by a xenophobic Drow fallen empire!!! I should really look into a way to prevent the special system initializers from spawning near fallen empires...
Nessa Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 Also just thought of another idea. Why not make the Ascari even more random? Like Earth, perhaps all you find are a bunch of nuked planets? Hmmm...
Nessa Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 OOK, I think I've got the Ascari being a little more random now. Instead of always showing up and kicking rear-end, the Ascari can now be primitive (with nasty armies) or totally dead. Might try and use the same principles for the fallens. Thing about the fallens is that I have special system initializers that make elfy/drow fallens a little more interesting than the usual vanilla fallens. (An elf/drow on some randomized non-elf/drow sounding world!? For shame! ) Also if anybody has met the Drow fallen in particular: um, OUCH. Don't really want to change that but it would be nice for them not to -always- show up on large maps. Oh yeah, and I've been trying to figure out pre-sentients. It may be possible for me to make some presentient Ascari that also get uplifted into Ascari. It's a little more complicated so I'll save that idea for later. EDIT: Ding! Got it! Uplifting stuff is done via anomalies. So... in the case of the Ascari, I would create a specific anomaly that puts them on Caras Vala in an un-sentient state. Then, when you do the usual uplifting bit, I can control what they turn into. Seems vanilla uplifiting events pick random portraits which is why uplifting always turns cute things into stupid things. I'll revisit this at some point. Once I get into anomalies it's going to be hard to stop.
Nessa Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 I noticed the update list was getting quite large. So an unexpected early.... UPDATE!!! Adjusted the scale slightly. Elves are still tall, just not so clippy with larger hairstyles. Organized all clothing! Meaning clothes won't be all over the place in the ruler design window anymore. (Note: I think I have NUDITY tags on anything with nudity, but I may have missed some deeper into the clothing selectors. The newer section is all accurate though.) Ascari randomization. It's now set up like this: 50% chance the Ascari system will show up in a galaxy. If the system is picked, there is a 40% chance the Ascari are awake, 40% chance they're primitive (watch out for their armies though), and 20% chance their system is just a nuked Avari world. You can change all these as noted in the first post of the thread. In the process of figuring out how to limit fallens while keeping their special system initializers. (In some ways I wish I hadn't made them. But they took so much work, I -must- keep them in now! ) Also.... shapes for both corvettes done. I was originally going to release ships as they were finished but I may hold off until the set is done. (Updating takes 3 million years with the nutty internet service I'm stuck on at present.) And.... if anybody wants the existing retextured ship set as a stand alone, now is the time to mention it. I'll be starting to replace ships very soon.
Princessity Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Oooooh! Any chance you could post screenies of the corvette models? I'm so curious now! <3
