Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Bioware sure likes women with absolutely giant... erm... AHEM, right. Anti-toaster heads should be possible. That smells like a new upcoming mod to me. Aren't there some existing portraits that make use of glow? I could swear I saw one. Either the actual robots or maybe one of the special races. Anyway, it would probably be pretty easy to do. Take existing human-esque portraits, turn them metal looking, add appropriate clothes. Maybe even use existing robot anims in fact. No need for blinking, they're machine!
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I would love you forever (I mean more than I do already which is starting to stretch the definition of forever a bit!) if you could make a base body for robotic portraits ^^ I have tried doing it myself but nopes, unlike pasting and colouring faces on top of existing bodies, this is actually hard and requires skills ._.
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 If I could figure out glow... or maybe even if I can't... I could technically use any existing portrait. Hair could be... some kind of metallic thing like in the pic. (Or none at all!) The skin tone would be smoothed metal. (I can do that. I think. ) Eyes could be some kind of electronic glowy thing. (Why I'd love to have actual glow...) But first I'd better finish this hair business. And, from the game files themselves..... science_directorate --> illuminated_technocracy I think I'll make all materialistic forms without crowns.
idonotlikeusernames Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I may hold off on switching the guys for a bit. I'm anxious to get moving on the ships. We'll see what gets done first. Aww......but Drow/Dark elf guys would be so unbelievably cute with the new slim body type. Well, like I said I'm hoping that guy who made the Romulan Warbird for Stellaris has liberal permissions as I think that ship in particular is perfect for my Dark Elves if properly retextured, though since I don't have Maya and my Blender is a little rusty, to say the least, it seems like I won't be doing it myself any time soon.

Oh they're getting done. Just not necessarily tomorrow. You don't need Maya for retexturing. Just... um... Photoshop. I mean you could probably do it with ... whatever that free app is out there. (Can't think of the name at the moment.)

Vanilla robotic portraits do have glowy bits but I think it's just part of their texture. I'm looking through the game files and I don't see any separate glow maps for portraits anywhere But oh yah you're right Hair first and you should finish your stuff before getting caught up in another one of my side-projects-that-suddenly-blow-up-into-projects! XD
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Hmm... OK, if there's no existing glowy stuff, then probably making use of the robot heads (if possible) is the best move. I can create a glow effect right in the texture in that case. I was hoping for glow because I like the idea of moving glowy eyes, but oh well. Now that I have the hair selector more organized..... I need MORE ruler hair styles!! *runs off to photoshop* OK, stagnant fallens get elfy crowns. Awakened.... get DROW. And... I just realized, I'm missing a bunch of government types in the elf/drow clothing selectors as well. I suppose that means they default to standard pop clothing. But really, artsy curators should have artsy clothes and the like...
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Oh? How do you distinguish between Fallen and Awakened? I think I may have forgotten to update my mod to account for Awakened empires... Unless they're also "Stagnant Ascendancy" government they maaaaaay have no clothes... that's a... problem...
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 It's "awakened_ascendancy". Also there are some other new governments like the curators. (curator_government, trader_government, artist_government) I haven't accounted for the awakened clothing either. Though I believe, the pops at least will default to generic. Leaders though... probably not. By the way, any wonky governments people want to see with -only- colored hair? So far I'm setting the artists to that but it will be quite rare to run into an elf/drow running an artist ... space station... thing.
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 OH RIGHT! Enclaves! Derrrrrp I completely forgot! With our brains combined! We... umm... figure basic stuff way after the fact XD And while I don't think there's any governments that would be fitting for colourful hair, how about the"happy planets" with drugs in the air? n_~
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Hah! I know! We do all these releases, THEN we figure out where we messed up! Oh, good idea! No reason not to put an additional check for that in. Which means... yeah, new update coming soon with: fixed clothes, more hair, and.... more ruler hair. I'm loving the vulcan hair with the Drow tiara for instance.
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Turns out I'm in a portrait mood today. So.... yep, doing the guys! Speaking of which..... I know guys won't have pink hair but.... purple, green, and blue?
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Pink hair could work for them! I mean they're elves right? I imagine all elf guys want to look like Legolas and that means dyeing their hair a uniform plat. And as someone with years of experience trying on different kinds of blonde and experimenting extensively with tips and highlights, I can tell you that sometimes what you see on the box is a giant stinking pile of lies and what's supposed to be a "naturally blended harmony of summer tones" ends up giving you this: Naturally blended in your lying face thank you very much, L'Oreal Paris
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Oh my, that's disturbing. ... Which sort of makes me want to include it.
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 So... been looking in the portraits section. I can assign a normal map to any portrait which means, I could technically assign a glow. Not sure what it would look like but it's something to consider for future... ideas. Uh oh... Glowy elf eyes!??? WHY do I always give myself ideas for more work?!
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 WHY do I always give myself ideas for more work?! If you ever find the answer to that, please let me know! It's the reason I can never finish working on anything I make XD
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Um.... Well, let's just say I'm a really big fan of the new elf guys. At least the space elf one anyway. Not terribly thrilled with the first human convert though. I'll see how the others go. Also I might try my hand and making some brand new ones while I'm here. OK I'm just going to come out and say it. Where can I sign up to get captured by the green eyed one??
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 He's prettyyyy! <3 The last one does kinda look like he stuffed his face with something to do a Don Corleone impression so I'd totally give him a fedora and put him in charge of some Plutocratic Oligarchy!
Nessa Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 OK, have 3 of them done. One of the vanilla ones was REAAAALLLLY ugly. So I didn't include it. Also I don't know what I was thinking, but I can easily standardize skin tones. I've done so on the guys, I'm going to go back and do the girls as well... along with an additional eye color for girls: gold. I like the Altmer gold look. (When the heads aren't freaking ugly like in vanilla ... anything. )
Princessity Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Oooh gold sounds nice! And the new updos will defo make it possible to make more Altmer-looikng elves! (My first character in Morrowind was an Altmer with a giaaaant beehive on her head and now for some reason I picture all high elves like that, I can't help it!)
Nessa Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 So... I just want to say..... I HATE DOING MEN! Er... or at least the clothes for them. I cannot for the life of me figure out a way to get a decent representation of how the outfits fit on the body. So far I've been fudging it as best as I can. I'm currently sitting with 67 outfits total, and I may cap it right there. (I'll try and do a few more little things for savages, slaves and sidh/eilistraee.) Though, I do at least have more outfits for the slim type than I do for the old one. So that's something.

Nessa Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 Yes actually. For one thing, the size of the clothing files are -really- crazy. They aren't the same size as the portraits. The clothes are at a totally different scale. I can't figure out the appropriate scale for the body so I can properly fit clothes on it. I can get the neck somewhat close but that's about it. The base bodies were actually -very- quick which gave me the false hope that the clothes would be as well. Oops. Secondly, the animations are driving me batty. The left shoulder on a guy, will jut up at a stupid angle... forcing me to make clothes that look really horrible when in photoshop but decent (kind of) when in game. You don't really notice it with the vanilla clothing (which I might add, the vanilla clothing selectors have errors in them) because the outfits are super huge. I can't really have anything form fitting either because the animations really distort the image. For instance, say I put a necklace on a bare chest. It will look fine, and properly angled when in photoshop. When it gets in game there's a giant kink in it! It feels like they took the elf guy portrait, fixed the blinking eyes, but left the other anims alone. And those anims it would seem belong to one of the larger alien races with weird arms. Another oddity. The faces get distorted too! I still can't figure this one out. Pheno 3 does -not- have a wonky expression when you look at the body in photoshop! Get him in game and it's like he's got some serious issues. Still, I admit the new elf guy is smoking. So it was probably worth it just for that. But the other 2 phenos are just mediocre at best, or horrid at worst. I'll keep them in for the next update but if people want them removed I'll be happy to do so.
Nessa Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 And as I'm sitting here typing this... I just got yet another idea to try. What if the clothing file is the -exact- same size as the portrait? Wish me luck! That's always how it is with me. I look for more complicated solutions first.
Nessa Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 Right. Well... that doesn't work either. Which about exhausts every last idea I have. I'll fudge as best I can the savage/slave/eilistraee stuff and call it a day!
