Guest Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Another rant about NMM 0.65.10 (Probe install) Â I'm quite sure that everyone had at least once this "Probe install" issue in every version of NMM, but that issue was minimal in versions before 0.60. It's fucking annoying and sometimes I had to restart NMM 0.65.10, 2-3 times that it will install the mod I installed dozen times earlier.
Guest Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 I hate NMM 0.65.10 Â No offense to supporters and lovers of NMM 0.65.10 but this manager version is disaster. If I wouldn't need it for testing and comparing with Vortex, this piece of shit will never be installed on my computer. Before I upgrade it from 0.56.2 for named purpose and because Vortex deosn't support importing files from earlier version than 0.63.+ NMM found and recognized my Witcher 3 game. This, new 0.65.+ version doesn't recognize Witcher 3 and it always ask me to rescan the system reporting that the game doesn't exist. What a fucking nonsense! Â Vortex immediately recognized and accepted the game. One big plus for Vortex. Â

Guest Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 New NMM release after 7 months and I'm thrilled with it. Much better and works better than any 0.65.+ version. I tested upgrade on0.65.10 and I confirm fixes works. Slorm Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Thanks Elf Prince. I only spotted them last night as I hadn't checked for a while as I've been extremely busy with work. Â I'm not sure I see a great need to update at present, at least not until all the bug fixes are out as they seem to be coming in fairly quick succession. Probably best to wait until things settle a bit and then see if there are any new useful features to make it worthwhile upgrading
Grey Cloud Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 With my usual impeccable timing I updated yesterday to 70.3 from 65. Installed over the top of 65 without any problems.  @Slorm Depends what version you are currently using. I uppgraded because the log-in api had changed so I could no longer log-in to Nexus from NMM. 1

I didn't have to as such, it's just that if you are logged in when you install a Nexus mod NMM puts the mod in the correct category rather than dumping it in 'Unassigned' or whatever it is called. This new version, 70.3, seems to automatically log in when you fire up NMM.

FOMM had a sign in option as well when it was used way back when as well. (don't know if it was due to category or other reasons) Back before NMM was first created. Personally Category options starts to annoy me as many mods don't fit nicely into individual category and often have components from other things.. Guess it is just the OCD in me that gets annoyed. Â

I tested re installation of those mods under 0.70.5 and all worked fine. That's why I'm thrilled.

Once it is confirmed, everything goes smoothly.

Grey Cloud Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 One thing I have failed to notice with 70.3. is any improvement in load time. It still takes forever to fire up.

So now it takes forever and a day. I thought it was a bit slower but I've not used it much in the last few days. But hey, at least it is out of beta finally.

Slorm Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I just tried updating to 0.70.7 and it just ctd's on startup (tried rebooting etc). I've filed a bug report  EDIT:  Found a fix. Looks like it won't update correctly. I rolled back to 65.11 and uninstalled. Clean installed 0.70.7 and it worked correctly

I didn't have such problem with upgrading from 0.65.+ to 0.70.3. Every next upgrade went without problems. I have to commend 0.70.7 version. I open fast, uninstallation and installation of mods is fast. Only bug I had in upgrading is that NMM marked uninstalled mods as disabled if I didn't remove them from the manager.
Grey Cloud Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Just installed 0.70.7 over 0.70.3 without any problems. Initial impressions - I'm underwhelmed. Still takes too long to load and too long to uninstall mods. Giving Vortex serious considerables.

I do not play Skyrim but I do install and uninstall mods for my wife. I'm very thrilled with latest version.

I haven't rebooted my computer yet so maybe that will help. I'll give it a few more days before making any decisions about Vortex. Keep what works for you and your hardware and modding needs. As @Elf Prince and others know I prefer Mod Organizer. I like how it does its management and handles things. However, it is preference. So long as the mod manager, installs the mods, and keeps a record and uninstalls the mods well, it is all that is required. (that and load order management  I haven't used Vortex yet as I haven't heard enough positive press about it to warrant trying to learn a new system when my old system works just fine (remember the comment "keep what works for you" )  When changing a mod manager (like if /when I try Vortex) it should only be done with game plays that aren't serious and when you have time to go through and get things right. Also should be used with mods and games you already understand how to get them to work properly so you aren't trying to diagnose if it is a manager or a mod issue that is occurring.  That is my advice.. take it for what it is.

Thanks but I have had enough of the long load time and the uninstall times are not getting any shorter so I think NMM has run its race for me. I've used it for 3 years and ignored the MO evangelicals but enough is enough. I'll do the reading before I make a move but Skyrim is just a computer game, if it breaks I'll fix it. 1

So it isn't working for you anymore.. time to move to Vortex? Please post back on your experience. I haven't used it and am interested in a current comment on it.. (since this is a NMM and Vortex thread) a It was worked on by Tannin the creator of MO and is supposed to have some features and such but be easier to use than MO so that will be interesting to see how that translates.
