galgat Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015   For me it has to be "Blood on the Ice"  1. It is an important quest to get one of your Homes in Skyrim.  2. I bet I tried 10 time to find some way to do it right.  3. Finally had to turn off Hearthfire's, pickpocket the key from "Tova Shatter-Shield" break into the home without doing any of the first part of the quest. Otherwise the Objects in the Home none of them would activate. Could not even open the secret Room, unless I did it that way.  4. After that I had to use the Console to delete, and add all items, other wise they were placed in the home in a very spastic mannor. Purchasing them from the Steward was pointless.  5. After re installing Hearthfire, the secret door will no longer closes, but at least I have it open. and the Home functioning right.  6. Is very, sick joke from bethesda in my Opinion, as it was not just a simple fetch, and carry mission, it entailed one of the more prized items to aquire in the game a Home.   Thank ful to have console functions to use, I feel very sorry for people that play it on "Game Console's" I bet it is a major problem for them.   7. So far for me this is, or has been the most troublesome bugged Quest for me.
aqqh Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 master restoration magic ritual. for once it never worked as intended for me. ever. it was supposed to be you, teleported in some spirit realm, naked, alone, facing some ghosts... and then your follower barges in to cheerfully butcher those ghosts.... Â and for dessert it causes such a beautiful mess in your papyrus engine......
Luminar Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Waking nightmare. The amount of CTD's that quest causes for me is nightmarish.
squamousnesss Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 That one in windhelm with the serial killer. Â I just cannot do it.
cornbreadtm Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Discerning Transmutation. I recently cleaned up my Skyrim folder and reinstalled all of my mods so I haven't seen if it fixed my problem. Before though when ever I picked up the book the quest wouldn't update and Ol' Hermie wouldn't show up. Bethesda made it harder to fix the problem when they change how they handled scripts for no good reason...
galgat Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 That one in windhelm with the serial killer.  I just cannot do it.  Yeppers thats the one I was talking about "Blood on the Ice. It is really messed up, but some of these others mentioned are a pretty righteous mess too.  Probably best to "CompleteQuest ms11" and then "CompleteQuest MS11B" I think that is right to finish "Blood on the Ice"  then "setstage a7b33 10" this should give you home, key, and decoration book. But make sure you have like 12000 coin on you before typing this, or might bug. I think that is right amount  but even that will not fix the secret door opening in the house. and the Buggy purchase of items.
Sarathis Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 For me it's a toss up between "Blood on the Ice" and "The Forsworn Conspiracy". Both of those questlines have stupid amounts of ways in which you can break them. I try to avoid doing either but the completionist in me really likes having Thane status and all the houses in every hold. Â Knock on wood, I've never had an issue with "Waking Nightmare". I do CTD a lot at the very end of "A Night to Remember," though. Annoying.
Mr_Snow Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 The imperial side of the Civil War, specifically the Dawnstar part. I tend to do Blood on the Ice as soon as I get it, and never put the wizard in prison. So I don't have problems with that.
galgat Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Waking nightmare, gave me only one real pain, at the door of the temple Eranus or what ever his name was would not go in, I had to advamce the stage to 30 "setstage DA16 30" I think it was, this made hime go on through the door, he sort of hung up there. Â I also got a lot of FPS slow down right at the last just Before Eranus destroy's the skull "Pretty sure it was script lag, lot of stuff going on at that time". But other than that it went okay. Â The imperial side of civil war only gapped on me once, and that was when you were about to take down winter hold. I finally just went to the Horse stables, and ran up to the door, and it took off again. Â Â I am going to have to look up that "master restoration magic ritual" I don't remember it off the top of my Head.
bradleyh Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I know how to work with Blood on the Ice to allow the Quest to have it trigger properly, having spent thousands of Hours playing Skyrim helps too.  The White Phial, I can do the Quests with no problems, but the repaired Phial is almost always buggy.  I have not had a character run through Waking Nightmare in over a Year, but the last time I did I had to intentionally Spam the Quicksave after deactivating the Miasma to allow the Game to make a Save that would not cause a CTD when changing Cells.  I have never had a problem with Markarth/Imperial/Stormcloak Guards remaining hostile after The Forsworn Conpiracy.  I hate when a section of the Civil War does not advance the Questline properly.  Never bring a Follower into High Gate Ruins, Anska  is infamous for Friendly Fire.
Coopervane Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Blood on the ice is just a horribly designed quest, so i am not at all supriced that people bring it up. Â There's a very specific order you have to do things in or the quest can and will break, and what's more, it's the only quest in the game that breaks the game's established rules. Normally Skyrim's quest markers are so handholding it's almost patronizing, and you need to follow them slavishly to not break the quests. In Blood on the ice though, the quest markers are lying to you, and following them will break things! Â Couple this with the fact that it makes no sense (like you having to sell a piece of evidence, really, who would think that's the smart thing to do?), and there's basically no direct reward for doing it (Really Jorleif? The guards will be nicer to me? You coulden't even give me 20 gold? Oh, and the guard standing by the door still tells me "Don't cross me, Elf!" as i leave), and the whole thing just feels stupid and pointless. Â Â Alas, for those having trouble with the quest, here's the order i do it in every time, and which has worked for me every time. Maybe it can help some of you: Â Â Â 1 Talk to the guard, then the three gawkers, then the guard again, the go see Jorleif. Â 2 Having talked to Jorleif, go talk to the guard at the crimescene again. Â 3 Go talk to Helgird in the hall of the dead. Â 4 Go to Hjerim and you're greeted with the update to gain access. Just pick the lock, you'll want this overwith as soon as possible so why not? Â 5 Click on all the "investigate" items, and make sure you leave with 1x "beware the butcher" pamplet, 2x butcher journals (secret room and chest), and 1x strange amulet. Â 6 Leave hjerim and talk to any guard, ask about both the butcher pamplets and the amulet. Â 7 Follow the questmarker to Callisto and talk to him first! If you speak to Viola first you loose the quest markers and it'll make Callisto harder to locate. Speaking to Callisto first you still keep the marker for Viola, so doing it in this order makes both NPC's easy to find. So talk to Callisto, and sell him the strange amulet for 500 gold (yeah it's stupid, but if you don't, then that amulet will be stuck in your inventory forever, so you need to do it!). Â 8 Speak to viola and ignore everything she says. Â 9 Go directly to Wuunferth and speak to him, tell him that you've heard he dabbles in Necromancy and follow the dialog options from there (they all lead to the same place). Â 10 Go to the market, where the forge and the little market stands are, and wait for both Callisto and the Elven woman who keeps telling you about dull horses show up, and then when Callisto pull his dagger, you can either save her or let him kill her, and then kill Callisto, Bam, quest done, just go to Jorleif and say Callisto did it, and you'll get your non-reward from him and finally end this missery. Â Â
eifrag Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 1. the TG quest where you become a nightingale. Karliah walks away from the gate 2. mini-quest where alduin raise dead dragons, if you get too close to alduin the whole process is interupted Â
Guest Vendayn Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 The helgen start (unmodded game)  Happens on console too if the console has modded parts to it to make it better (I don't have one, my friend hi-jacked his cause he hated having a weak-cheap broken pc (xbox one) on his tv. He wanted his console to be a high end pc that was vastly more stable)...a lot less likely to happen on vanilla consoles cause they are capped at 30 FPS  But...  Too high FPS? HOLY SHIT THE WAGONS ARE FLYING EVERYWHERE! I JUST FLEW LIKE SANTA CLAUSE AND NOW RUBBERBANDING BACK AND FORTH Too low FPS? WTF THE SCRIPTS ARE SO SLOW...WTF NOW I'm SLOWLY FLYING EVERYWHEREVSYNC ON (PC)? JUST KIDDING! DAWNGUARD IS ACTIVE...WTF this DLC IS BROKEN! ITS MAKING THE CARTS FLY EVERYWHERE AND WHY IS EVERYONE STANDING THERE DOING NOTHING?  TURN DAWNGUARD OFF. Hey Helgen works...wait...WTF MY HEAD JUST GOT CHOPPED OFF. GAME OVER ROFL ROFL  Finally...every DLC off, download enb, cap it at 30 FPS (all dlc need to be off too)...helgen works perfectly  The helgen start is the buggiest piece of shit quest of any game. If there was a game about game bugs and broken games, helgen would be more broken and buggier. And this is with no mods at all, on a fresh install with a 100% vanilla game up to downloading ENB. Happens to my friends console too. He has to leave all DLC off to get helgen to work. And he can't get unofficial patches or fix DLC with TES5Edit (and I should say before this point...I didn't edit any DLC with TES5Edit. No cleaning or anything. I wanted to attempt a 100% vanilla experience. Bethesda just made an absolutely broken main quest, at least at helgen rofl.  Finally everyone gives up on helgen (it is really really boring compared to the oblivion opening dungeon) and downloads alternate start mod and never has to do the shittiest quest of any game.
Mud Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Blood on the Ice used to be this for me, but I haven't had it fail to start or otherwise go wrong in like, a couple years now. Sometimes I'd even find it had started on my first visit to Windhelm, despite it supposedly only starting after visiting several times. I just assumed the Unofficial Patch fixed it good. But what still really annoys me about that quest is that for all the work you do, you don't even get rewarded for it! Sure, you get the Necromancer's Amulet and Hjerim is able to be purchased, but Jorleif doesn't actually give you anything for it! Â Â But my mods seem to really mess with the Helgen start quest in random nonsensical ways, or the cart ride at least, without ever actually changing the Helgen quest in any way. I've shown up with the cart completely missing, the cart flipping out and going off track, and random wildlife attacking the caravan and halting the quest because the NPCs' combat AI messed up the cutscene.
Slorm Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Blood on the Ice, though as I know it well now it usually doesn't give me too much trouble (but always keep lots of saves just in case)
Coopervane Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hmm, come to think of it.. are we talking before are after applying the USKP's? Because if we're talking before applying them, then i could spent an entire day writing down game-breaking bugs with just the Dawnguard DLC alone!

Guest Vendayn Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 This is on a 100% vanilla game though. Not even TES5Edit or Unofficial patches, just pure console-like vanilla skyrim. I didn't use any mods at all, just DLC stuff...not even ENB. And this was on a brand new windows install so the game was 100% mod clean (I even had to install it again in steam). Not a hint of a mod file. I didn't even have SKSE installed, just pure skyrim. Â And helgen was broken as hell for me. It is mostly broken on my friends xbox one too, he has a ton of problems at the helgen start. Once he passes it, its all good though.
galgat Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 To Coopervane, Yeppers! That is good advice, but Even following that I still could not sellect the items inside Hjerim, the chest, hidden roon, and Amulet. They just would not activate for me until I turned off Hearthfire's, and went to a save before finding the quest.  I also had to finish killing that evil lady in the orphanage for the boy preforming the ritual in Winterhold. Until I did this the Quest would not even fire  I am running all three Unofficial patches, I just installed them sometime back which is what got me to start trying to do some of these more troublesome quest's. To see if they even helped.
yatol Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015   I also had to finish killing that evil lady in the orphanage for the boy preforming the ritual in Winterhold. Until I did this the Quest would not even fire  http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Blood_on_the_Ice#How_to_Start_the_Quest  How to Start the QuestThis quest is triggered by a counter that starts at the beginning of the game which will increase each time you visit the city of Windhelm or the immediate surrounding area. When it reaches four, the Blood on the Ice quest will be available, although two more conditions must be met:
Neko91 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Arkngthamz (where you meet Katria and start the Lost to the Ages quest) -- the boss fight always glitches. Â eta: Played this without any problems the other night -- I won't say that the Unofficial Skyrim Patch was the source of my problems, but ... the only mod change I made in this playthrough was to roll back to version 2.0.9
bradleyh Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 The end of the Dragonborn DLC Main Quest. You have a character with the best Weapons and Armor, You beat down Miraak in one hit and the Game is glitched. Reload the last Save where Our character has just read "Waking Dreams"
Nef D Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Blood on the Ice for me, I have to avoid Windhelm until I'm ready to do it and save before going there, eventually it gets it right but I've been known to spend 2 days just triggering that bugger. Ironically, never owned the house it unlocks, never bother with the civil war quest and the one time I did it was on a glitched Blood on the Ice run through, go figure.
Corpus Vile Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Never really had any problems until a few days ago with the Forsworn conspiracy, the guy who was supposed to hand me a note at the very beginning never appeared. I'm guessing it's some weird interaction with a night to remember. Now that's a quest I wish didn't exist, that's got to be one the most annoying quest givers I've ever seen.
