FNV Edit: Editing leveled lists to change generic NPCs genders?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

In my bethesda games, I always genderbend all male generic NPCs like "Bandit, Raider, Guard", etc into females to make the sex mods more enjoyable. Skyrim I have the MoreWomen mod from here, FO4 I have Mostly Female NPCs from Nexus, & Oblivion I made my own mod using Construction Kit. That method took AGES though as I manually changed every generic male's appearance to female, sometimes going as far as actually giving a shit about their hair, color, etc.

I really dont wanna do that CK method again for New Vegas so I looked at these^ other mods & saw how they basically rely on xEdit to change the leveled lists so males spawn as females. I'd much rather do that instead but i have never touched leveled lists before. My experience with xEdit is limited to translating foreign mods, editing dialogue, reverting worldspace edits, & editing file paths for meshes & textures.

So can anyone tell me how to edit NPC leveled lists so generic NPCs spawn as female instead of male? Or point me to a relevant guide that at least touches the subject? I'm not interested in changing their gear or anything else, unless I need to go into GECK to generate face meshes & textures.

I've made you a tiny screenshot guide on how you can do it with leveled list:

Step 1:

Step 2:

step3:

Betehsda/Obsidian is also very friendly in their naming scheme.

Raider2GunHM = Raider ... Hispanic  Male

Next one is Rader ... AfroAmerican Male

Next Caucasian Male

If you just delete all entries ending on M, you should have deleted all generic males.

The only stuff after that is the named NPCs (and the lack of variety of the enemies, since you deleted about 50% of them)

So i've done that for MOST of the leveled lists that are organized like that one^ (raiders, sewer citizens, etc)

problem im seeing is ALOT of factions that either have NO women at all or split their leveled lists by gender (Legion & Powder Gangers having none while groups like Jackals, Gommorah Prostitutes, Refugees, etc splitting them). Not sure how to approach these in xEdit at least. In CK i could just target them individually (which would be shorter now but still long af).

I imagine its unavoidable for Legion & Powder Gangers but for these "split" groups, would changing their reference to their female counterpart work without me having to worry about their appearances & voices or would I need to get them in CK also?

Just copy paste from female into male list if need, should be no problem with that, as it's only a link to what reference should be used, voice/appearance/etc are tied to the npc references themselves.

that seems to have worked so far for the ones it applies to.

new problem though, old race NPCs added by Functional Post Game Ending have invisible bodies when female. Changing their settings in the NPC section of GECK show no body no matter what except their head is fine. Checking out what body they use in the Race section however shows their bodies are fine? the NPCs arent named, they're templates so idk how to force them to use the correct bodies when GECK is showing them ok in one part but not elsewhere.
