I had heard that, and I think there's a book in Skyrim that kind of talks about it, but I don't remember which one... My theory is orcs were always evil in classic fantasy like oldschool D&D and Tolkien, and that's what the first Elder Scrolls games borrowed from. Then Warcraft started making them actual characters in the late 90s (Warcraft 1 was a novelty back then), and WoW exploded in the mainstream. Blizzard changed how modern fantasy fiction sees them, and Bethesda followed their lead. I never played Elder Scrolls Online, so I dunno if they added new lore there.

i play elder scrolls online there isnt much lore in that game , everybody just pllays for fun even me

On the tangent of Skyrim, Orcs and D&D, when I run D&D in Skyrim, I use the D&D Half-orc race for Orsimer.

I am in the same boat. But it is always Brenton at the end of the day.

I played TESO (TES-Online) for about a year - the vast majority of players (95% in my clan) at the time had no idea about the ESO universe - they didn't even know the names of the games.

The lore of ESO has been essentially set since Morroind - but there is also a lot of room for interpretation.

For most elves, the Orsimer (aka Orcs) are an animal race like Argonians or Khajit.

For a certain Bosmer, Orsimer are not just animals, but rather quite filthy animals. I guess on her Skyrim adventures there could be a lot more to come for the conceited elf full of prejudices ... 😁😇

That would be the Khajiit. They are the one playable race that well and truly sets the Elder Scrolls series apart from other fantasy RPGs. If I want Lizard people, I can play Divinity: Original Sin 2. If I want Orcs and Elves, I can play almost any other Western RPG so long as it is not Urban Fantasy (even then, Shadowrun still includes them).

Is anyone gonna say Argonian? I wonder ...

Is this thread gonna get any more posts? I wonder ...

Is anyone going to say '400m relay'?

That would not be an Elder Scrolls race, though. Timed missions or the part of Jurgen Windcaller's Tomb that requires use of the Whirlwind Sprint might count, though.

Lore wise I don't really have a favorite. As for playing the games, primarily skyrim, nord was my go to for a warrior type character for years. More recently I've preferred playing breton or elven characters and focusing on magic and one handed weapons.

No but I know they have elven ancestry so I'd guess that has something to do with it

It started when the Nedes arrived in High Rock, they were enslaved by the Aldmer , and aldmer had sex with there slaves . thus bretons were born

No love for the Imperials? I always play one in Morrowind. I like talkative, high Personality, high speed hand-to-hand types and Imperials are perfect for that.

In Skyrim though, Personality isn't a thing any more and Speech is only useful for better prices, so I usually play a Breton for the magic resistance.

Breton.

Whether vanilla or any sort of race overhaul it's always Bretons. Can't beat the extra magic resistance and the ability to make excellent arcane stealth archers. It's just too good.

Redguard as a VERY distant second when I'm in a mood for something exotic which I can not normally see when walking down the street, and an excellent take on stealth archery.

Bosmer on third place for a very specific, hunter-gatherer/survival playthrough once in a blue moon and for an excellent stealth archer.

No beast races, ever. Not my kink, despite making excellent stealth archers. I don't like my rugs and my lizard leather shoes getting any silly ideas.

Imperial.

Not because they're human, but because of the Greek/Roman vibe they have going. I've always loved that kind of thing. It's one of the reasons Odyssey is my favorite AssCreed game. Followed closely by Valhalla(minus the God storyline). This is why Nord comes in second, imo.
