What do you HATE MOST about VANILLA Skyrim?

Guest

Vanilla Skyrim things most players hate (According to people I talk to and Google).

  1. 1. Which is your pick?

    • Game-breaking bugs and glitches. (Oh, you're wanting to find out how to kill Alduin, but you can't because Delphine won't pull out a torch to light a brazier? Too bad, loser!)
      25
    • Broken/bizarre physics and other game mechanics. (A horse being able to stand parallel with a mountain like a Naruto character, for example)
      0
    • Ugly character textures. (Where characters look like they're from the PS2 era. No offense, PS2)
      16
    • Too many boring side quests. (I don't care that you lost your stupid family artifact! That's your fucking problem! I'll only get 20 gold for it, anyway! What the fuck can I do with 20 gold?!)
      8
    • Being remade and released 10 times with practically nothing new, save for a nigh-unnoticeable "upgrade". (Oh. You can fish now? I don't... really care. I'm not spending $30 for that)
      31
    • Crappy rewards (A shitty enchanted sword for risking my life to find a stupid artifact in an ancient dungeon full of things that want to murder me? Fuck you!)
      7
    • Anything else I can't think of right now (Please feel free to comment!)

In the vanilla Skyrim i hate... the Skyrim province. More precisely, three Holds: Pale, Winterhold and Eastmarch. Because TOO MANY snow. I live 9-10 months out of every year with snow outside my window. I hate snow. 🥶

Not sure I hate this the most, but I can't stand the voice of the guy who does Avennicci (he also did the voice of Ben in Robotech). And we get subjected to him ASAP in a vanilla game because he's the voice of the prisoner who freaks out, tries to run away and gets gunned down by arrows.

I never hated it I think but today no way I would play it ever again in original state. In general I remember I was disapointed having played Oblivion alot and in general I find skyrim still a mediocre game, its the modder community who saved this game. But Skyrim SE was already a sign Bethesda was not the same anymore. It was the last game I bought when it came out.

Till mods started to come out I found the opening scene the most annoying. Especially for a gamer like me who started this game maybe 100x or more.

Oh yeah: the same voices that are used over and over again.

And I almost forgot when this game came out. The crashes, crashes and more crashes.

I only played vanilla Skyrim and all of it's dlc (except Dawnguard) twice since 2011.  That's because Skyrim has the worst main quest out of all the previous TES games.  Morrowind in my opinion has the best main quest and best antagonist in Dagoth Ur.  Skyrim also has the worst factions and side quests of all the previous TES games.  Oblivion in my opinion has the best side quests and the best TES expansion The Shivering Isles.  The only reason why I have installed the game on three different PC's in the last 13 years is the excellent mods by the modding community, and I'm not talking about just the sex and ass and tits mods I love those mods too, but what  I mean the real quality and in depth quest mods and companions like Inigo, SDA, Ashe, Vilja, and Auri.   Today aside from the Dawnguard dlc which I play because of the excellent Serana Dialogue Addon and Serana Dialogue Expansion mods, I prefer to make my own stories whether using my imagination or using the Creation Kit.  Talking about the Creation Kit that is another factor why the TES games are still played to this day.  The fact that the game is easy to create mods without messing up your game and reinstalling.

Troll.

That troll.

Don't lie, you know exactly which one I'm talking about.

Rarely a problem these days. I can dodge past him and kite him to High Hrothgar; steal a horse from the Stormcloaks and ride up the mountain to a point after his ambush site. Do some of Dawnguard first and have your Vampire Lord yeet him off the mountain. So many fun ways to deal with the little sod.

But yeah, he was a pain to start with.

these days

I had hated this thing since November 2011. Second time I ever died in Skyrim. To this day I recall the first meeting and all the pain and reloads it took to get past it at level 4 or something.

Definitely the bugs for me. I played through vanilla unmodded skyrim multiple times and none of the other things you listed were really an issue for me. Going through a long dungeon doing a quest only to be stopped in your tracks because an npc won't progress or a door won't open or something like that will always be irritating.

Damned NPC's that stand in the freaking doorways

THAT TOO. Drives me crazy. That secret staircase in Sleeping Giant is one of the worst ones.

Is it really that secret? I had NPCs chilling down there, sitting on the bench or using idle marker at the table before even doing anything remotely related to main quest. The wardrobe remained closed.

All guilds quests and the main quests. Really hate how they shoehorn extremely early in a run chosen one this dragonborn that. let me be a poor sod/below average commoner before anything thank you
The difficulty slider, oscillating between "dragon succumbed to severe leek slap" and "whiterun local man survives 463 dagger stabs"
"unlimited power" seemingly infinite magicka random Npc

Honestly?

When I peel it all back?

Probably the civil war arc. "Choose between fascist colonizers, and fascist xenophobes."

But they aren't facist? The elderscrolls are based heavily off medieval fantasy tropes, ancient politics from Germany, Rome, Greece, China ect. And Skyrim happens to be based in the its own Euroscape.

To dumb two (three) warring factions down to either colonizers or xenophobes is disingenuous when its more deep than that. Any racism you see is only surface level, The Elves did the same before the Humans came to power.

The empire had always been a part of Skyrim. The Nords came down and helped liberate the Imperials in their time of need when the Elves were doing god awful things to them. Not long after they themselves had been betrayed by the Snow Elves themselves.  There is a very solid reason why humans hate elves in the elderscrolls lore, it is not just racism, which technically does not apply because they are different species, its like ants vs termites, or bees and wasps, yeah they look the same, but they are completely different, and often fight for the same resources, territory and... Its actually just like Ants vs Termites.

The Human history mirrors the Elves in that they had also explored and colonized. The clear difference is elves suck and either didn't or couldn't establish permanent settlements everywhere, while the clearly Roman based empire could. Speaking of Elseweyr, the Thalmor have manipulated and politically brainwashed the Khajiit via some shenanagins with the moons. They are also committing genocide against their own people and the wood elves (Some Stalin level shit man). Clearly the elves are showing more of that fabled racism y'all keep talkin about. Meanwhile the closest thing the Nords have to racism is being weary of outsiders and impressed by Curved Swords.

Tullius is right, them elves WANT you to hate the empire, as much as the stormcloaks. It will weaken the kingdoms of man enough for the elves to wipe them out.

If you read the dossiers in the embassy you'd have figured this shiet out. Ulfric was tortured and made to believe that he escaped, thinking that Skyrim Must be independent to survive, when he couldn't be further from the truth. If the Stormcloaks come out on top in ES6 then the Humans only hope would be that Skyrim forms stronger political ties with Hammerfell and Highrock, and since the Bretons are more politically minded than both skyrim and Hammerfell, they might not even consider helping either due to their own elven influences, and due to their longer relationship with Hammerfell, Skyrim would be truly alone in its soon to be elven bootlicking.

I'm tired of people throwing the word Facist around. By its very definition every tribe of peopls start out as lookin a little fascist if we look closely at it, but don't confuse one shitty political system for another, It'll blur and we'll all be disabled. Don't bring too much real world politics or modern Civility into certain fantasies based on Ancient Mythology, it'll end up like Starfield or Veilguard.

No argument there even though you proceed to throw the word around.

What is the "its" in this sentence? is it "fascist" or "tribe"? Either way it would be nigh impossible to back up the assertion.

Not sure what "ancient mythology" is in Skyrim.

As far as vanilla Skyrim goes I've never played it. I've only ever played it modded.

Of the three main factions I prefer the Forsworn purely because they are barkin' mad.
