Trying to use the Transfer function but struggling.  Is there some better documentation somewhere?

Also what is supposed to happen when it finishes?  I go ethereal, a bunch of stuff happens in my console, and then it starts teleporting me to every location in skyrim one by one, even if I've never been there.  I tried to break the cycle by fast travelling and it crashed my game.  Attached is my log.  What the heck is this?

I take it this thing is just completely broken in terms of Transfers between saves/characters?  Even if I turn locations and quests off and just try and transfer skills and items, it does the same thing every time.  Turns me into a ghosts, and COC's me all over skyrim to places i've never been, until it crashes.

@Inte does this work for you? I don't get it.  New guide maybe?  The UI and behaviour is incomprehensible to me and never works anymore

As a request for a future update - could the version number checks in iSUmMain.CheckForMods() first check if the respective mods are actually installed? I've been trying to debug something and the stack dumps are adding so much noise to the logs.

This is kinda old, but for posterity; the reason I do it this way is for troubleshooting in case the scripts were installed correctly but the .esp was not and vice versa.

I read through the rather thorough descriptions of what each page in SUM is for, and this is the first time I'm trying to use the transfer function so of course I have questions. When I tell SUM to save my current character, it does all that, saves, and then I start coc'ing all over skyrim, including to new places as I see a number of "foo discovered". Is that expected? I'm on AE 1170 + all updates.

It did this same coc all over skyrim when I tried transfer to a new character as well. So I'm a little confused on what to expect from this option.

The reason for teleporting to different locations has to do with how the game engine works. In order for me to save some objects or just interact with them, they have to be loaded otherwise they do not exist. In order to load these objects I have to teleport your PC to their location so the game can load them.  But yes, the downside to that is your PC will be teleported to undiscovered locations.

In short, it is a feature not a bug. :classic_tongue:

Hello!

I've been having an issue where SUM can't find the System.json files, no matter what I do. Any advice?

Make sure your Papyrus Utilities mod is installed correctly and of the correct version for your game.

Have you seen the MCM .json? Have you used the MCM help feature?

Well, it's not every location in Skyrim, but all the locations from your original save and only for the options you have chosen.

Yes, that is the expected behaviour. It only happens for certain options like locations, quests, and shouts. For the shouts if you add bNoTrig in the options, it will not disable the word walls triggers so it will not teleport you to all the word wals. But, it will leave the word walls in a broken state, as in they will not learn you their word as you approach them because you already know the word since SUM will learn you the word instead.

Not as far as I know. If you discover a bug, report it here so I can squash it.

It's probably the shouts, see above.

That's not expected behaviour. Do you have Crash Logger installed? What does its log say?

Well yes, otherwise I would not have published it.

Yeah, but it would be a very long guide, besides who would read it?

It teleports me all over the place when I'm trying to SAVE a transfer file, not reload one, so I never get to even create a transfer file.

Here's what I'm doing, tell me where I'm going wrong.  I eliminated the teleporting all over the place by making shouts blank as you suggested.

I go to transfers tab, select form as Elyrianna (my PC)

I set:

All Actor Values, Inventory, Game Stuff Values, except Shouts as []

Actors, Forms, Locations as [] (because I don't get how they work, but I would love to transfer two followers stuff between saves if you could explain)

Quests as bAll,GenFilter=Shezarrine Saga,Death Consumes All (to transfer quests associated with Death consumes all over?)

I then click "Active Transfer File" and name it Elyrianna

I then Click "Save to Transfer File"

It then processes Globals List 1-6, makes me ethereal, processess 11 quest lists (I guess my filter is not working? I can't type those vertical lines)

It does a bunch more stuff and then it crashes

Here's my log

It creates a transfer file, but when I load it up it processes a ton of quests I've never done (seems like every quest in the game) without marking them complete or adding to journal.  I gave up and never saw if it would get to my inventory

When I say [], I mean blank. The [] represents the text space, do not put the square brackets in.

Unfortunately, quests are still WIP, and only vanilla quests and a few mods that I have played are supported.

This is how your transfer options should look like,

Yes, you need the vertical bar character. The filter will not work without it.

I think you are overthinking it. It is quite simple,
1. First make sure you have set a hot key for ‘Select Actor/Form’ option, in this example Y.

Spoiler

2. Then, go to the ‘Actor Lists’ page and enter a .json name, in this example ‘MyTransferActors’.
3. Make sure the option ‘Storing Options’ is set like in the ss below.

Spoiler

05.jpg

4. Next, enter a new actor list name in the ‘Actor List Name’ option, in this example ‘MyActors’.

Spoiler

06.jpg

5. Walk up to the actors (in your case, your two followers) you want transferred until their name appears by your crosshair and hit the hotkey you set in step No. 1 above, in this example Y.

Spoiler

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

6. The actors should appear in your new actor list.

Spoiler

10.jpg

7. In SUM MCM go to the ‘Transfer’ page and set all options to blank except for the ‘Actors Transfer’. Set that like bellow. You can change the 'bDefault' to 'bBoth' to save both the actor’s sleep and default outfits. Make sure the List=|MyActors|, is the same actor list name you set in step No. 4 above.

Spoiler

8. Enter your transfer file name then hit ‘Save to Transfer File’.

9. Let it finish.

10. Load your new save and on the ‘Transfer’ page set everything like you did in step No. 7 above and hit ‘Load From Transfer File’.
11. Done. This will have transferred the outfits, skills, inventory, spells, stats and factions for those actors from the old save to the new one.

The ‘Forms Transfer’ does the same as the above actors but for forms and it will also save the form’s position.

The ‘Locations Transfer’ will allow you to transfer a whole house including actors, containers, furniture, walls etc, between saves.

Very useful if you do not want to rebuild the vanilla homes with every new save.

All you would have to do is,
1. Set all transfer options to blank except for the ‘Locations Transfer’.
2. Go inside the house and set the ‘Locations Transfer’ option to [bInv,bWorn,Name=|MyHomeInside|,], again do not include the square brackets. Give it a transfer file name, then, hit ‘Save to Transfer File’.
3. Go outside the house and set the ‘Locations Transfer’ option to [bInv,bWorn,Name=|MyHomeOutside|,]. Keep the transfer file name the same as in step No. 2 above, then, hit ‘Save to Transfer File’.
4. In the new save set everything on the ‘Transfer’ page like you did above in step No. 2, then hit ‘Load From Transfer File’. If you omit the name e.g. you set the ‘Locations Transfer’ option to [bInv,bWorn], all locations saved in the transfer file (in this example both the inside and the outside) will be loaded into the game.
5. Done.

Much appreciated, I would never have figured that out.

Ok I'll give that a try and see what happens.  Guess I'll restart Death Consumes All.

Ok @Inte this mostly worked.  For my PC the only issue is it did not transfer my custom enchanted ebony daggers I made, and also I ended up with 13 perk points to spend that I didn’t have before for some reason.

for my followers it seems to transfer their gear correctly, but it also breaks them.  They have dialogue options as if they are my followers but they don’t follow and can’t be dismissed

Custom equipment is created for your current save only. The only way to transfer those to a new save is to recreate them in the new save and there is no API that will allow me to do that, at least none that I know of.

OK, that is strange. Did you also transfer books? Sometimes books grant the PC a perk point when read. Do you have a log of this transfer?

Either way, I'll move the perk function to the bottom of the pile and that should fix it.

Are they custom followers that you are controlling thru a follower framework mod? Some follower frameworks do unconventional, unspeakable things to your followers and therefore not supported.

1)  Gotcha, nuts.  Any way to transfer enchantment spells you have learned?  I can't recreate them now cause I don't have the dope enchantments knowledge anymore.

2)  I just transferred my whole inventory, but I don't think I have any books that do that.  I am using a perk tree modifying mod though so maybe that's it?  Ordinator?

3)  They are custom followers, so thats probably why they get borked.  Its Yvette, Livia and Daegon.  Daegon seems fine, Yvette and Livia are broken

I'm not familiar with those. I don't do much enchanting in the game. But, if you create them, probably not.

By transferring books I meant you using the 'Books Options' not the books in your inventory. That option transfers the books you have read, actually it transfers their read flag.

1) I mean like when you destroy an item at an enchanting work bench to learn its spells, to transfer to another item.

2)  I just did the settings you posted. Maybe?

Can this thing transfer quest progress for quests other than Vanilla yet?  This would be the holy grail but not sure if its technically possible to read all the quest sqv from an esp and copy it into a save file or something?

Well, did you make sure System.json is in that location?
