Starfield Direct looked amazing. Very promising.

Recommended Posts

Yes, yes it did. But I still hold reservations about what we'll actually get when the game releases.

I mean the 45 minute "gameplay" reveal of Cyberpunk 2077 looked amazing as well. And look at what released, a broken, buggy mess, that got pulled from the PS Store, had lawsuits filed against CDPR for 'False Advertising', and all manners of other stuff that could have easily been avoided. And that was from the 'Golden Child of game companies'.

Bugthesda on the other hand; Has a known history of broken, buggy, launches. True, they haven't had one pulled from any store; But take Fallout 76... Please... (Sorry bad joke) Still, only time will actually tell what we actually get, and what differs from what they advertised.

Looks good. Looks very good. Faces look a smidge Uncanny Valley on the Direct but I'm sure I'll get used to that.

Main reservation is the system reqs list include broadband connection. I don't want to play a game that stops working if I can't reach the servers for permission.

[edit]

I should add that Steam pulled the boradband connection from the minimum reqs. So you can play offline.

Hi , i'm a Fan of No Man's Sky  and playing since day one in 2016. I see the evolution of this game since this time.

The evolution and progression of NMS is completly fantastique and incredible and all game update and Fix update are Free since 2016...

For Starfield , yes this game look very  promising but as @Sister Asphyxia said and i'm ok with her...

Starfield is an copy of many space game and when i see Starfield for the first time... i said ... but .... but .. it's No man'sky ....    LOL

But i'll buy Starfield for testing and playing of course because i like so much Space game ^^

For me, it's about a 99.9% certainty that I'm going to buy the game at some point.

It's only a question of will I buy it on day 1, or wait until it's in the bargain section at half-off.  That will depend on any new information or "leaks" that come out between now and September 6th.

Not even kind of.

Dragon's Dogma is not Monster Hunter and it isn't Dark Souls either.

My darling has now watched this 45 min video with me.

O.M.G.

what a disappointment ... almost every scene had the feeling -> everything is just stolen ... because everything has been seen before in a game or a sfi-movie

if it was at least "well stolen" ... no ... they didn't even do that

---

Please why does the captain - that is me - walk around in his own spaceship in a CLOSED spacesuit - while his own crew sit next to him in normal overalls?

Was that something not finished yet ... because he doesn't wear the spacesuit because of a possible lack of atmosphere!

---

What kind of drugs do I have to take to like what is shown in the video?

---

it's not like I'm not familiar with "space games" ... I already played "Elite" on the C64.

later on "Wing-Commander" - "Elite 2" ... up to "Borderlands" - "Elite dangerous" etc.

If another manufacturer would do it ... I might think about it ... but never with the bug-festival-building

forced online updates ... just say TES-Online ... every 2 weeks update and first look what bugs have come back - that were fixed 4 weeks ago ... and no matter what bugs the community reported ... either these reports were never processed or it didn't matter at all - that every few weeks the same old errors came back with the forced updates.

Same, but one of the things I've noticed in the past 5 years or so...is that sometimes this is listed as a requirement for updates, or content pulls. Either way, I'd love to see a clarification on the issue. Is the requirement an "always on" requirement or not?

Right on both counts, but I would actually argue that CDPR deliberately pulled the wool over the eyes of the public to fan the flames of hype sales, and then released a inferior product. 2077 on release was 25% of what they promised in their 45 min presentation, and it's come out since then that the original deep dive a lot of that was indeed fabricated for the audience.

I got 2077 as a gift from one of my kids...I didn't even pay for 2077 and I feel burned. They'll never get another chance. I'd never pre-order their crap because they've shown themselves to be shitheels ready to lie. All CDPR knows how to do is hype people up, and then play duck and cover.

Where Bethesda is concerned, I pre-ordered Fallout 4, and I'll pre-order Starfield. Why? Because at least with Bethesda, I know where the bar is. It's a low bar, but I know what I'll be getting. Yeah, there's going to be annoying shit. Things might be broken, but at least they try to deliver on what they tell people is in the game. They don't bait and switch, and they don't play slap and tickle with the truth. That is, if it's Todd talking. I think the guy genuinely loves his job and does his best...

I'd just as soon slap Pete Hines with a sock filled with padlocks than listen to that asshat.

Starfield also woke my ass up to the fact that my rig is long past due for an update. So...I just dumped a ton of cash to update my workhorse to a top of the line i7 and a 40xx GPU. Thanks Todd.

Well, there's a thin line between 'Intent', and 'It's good enough'. CDPR had the former, Bugthesda is known for the latter. But with CDPR after both what they pulled, and the continuing abuse of their community by random perma-banning anyone who points out their wrongdoings; I will never buy another thing from them. GoG, blacklisted. 2077, blacklisted, their company, blacklisted.

Yeah, I'm not surprised that he didn't show his stupid face in that whole showcase. I think he's become a bit synonymous with 'deception' at this point, and both MS and Bugthesda knows it. I also would not be surprised if there where big 'wanted signs' hanging all over the place at their offices, except instead of saying 'wanted' it says "Do not trust this man!".

Hell, when I saw it for the fist time I was literally talking to myself saying: "Well except for the shortened warp, it looks almost exactly like 'Empyrion: Galactic Survival'."

Surprised at how negative the sentiment here is all things considered

I guess the silver lining (regardless of your opinion on the deep dive) is that Creation Engine is still a modding playground

It's easier to express negative sentiment than positive. As someone who has spent an absurd amount of time playing and modding Bethesda games, I think the community tends to take the sheer scope and complexity of these games for granted. There's a laundry list of valid criticisms to lay at Holy Todd's feet, sure, but no one does what Bethesda does. They are best in class.

To give a bit of ground to the other side, the reason people can be so vitriolic is for that same reason. If you love the games but want better, there's only one studio to blame. You can't find relief by jumping to another developer. Probably also the reason for the stratification of Bethesda fans. Is Morrowind the best? No, Skyrim! I think you'll find Oblivion has the best quest design. You utter fools, Daggerfall is objectively the superior game! So on, and on.

Oblivion was the best so far in my opinion. As if it wasn't already obvious by my profile picture that is an edited version of 'The Shivering Isles' cover art, that I pulled from a fan site kit a long time ago. But I still had criticisms of it, and what it could have done better. I mean Skyrim is okay; But it's main quest is entirely contradictory to the entirety of the established lore on how the Elder Scrolls work.

Still, you'll find that kind of polarization in any community. And for any product on the market. But I wouldn't call it outright 'negativity'. It's just that when a company starts burning community bridges in order to make a little extra cash; Your going to see some members of that community start to be a little more cautious before attempting to start rebuilding them.

Well - I was trained as an engineer for industry and also worked there for a few years after graduation - before the social upheaval in 1989 "made" me switch to another industry.

I just imagine - in car manufacturing we would deliver vehicles of similar quality as Bugdesta deliver their games.

This would then mean for the buyer of such cars ... he has to make his own spare parts - there is no workshop network ... as well as no construction plans etc.

The only thing that comes from the manufacturer of these massively defective vehicles ... the statement that he is very pleased about the close cooperation with his "fans" aka "customers".

Yeah right - he does NOT have to worry about fixing the bugs in his junk products!

Yes, sure - the games (aka cars) of other manufacturers are not bug-free either - true ... but none of them is so impudent as to make a marketing act out of it "... People come to us - here you can repair our faulty products yourself - you have our permission to do so ...".

Because the first step in modifying a game is -> the "bug patch" that the community has developed and maintained over the years.

If this possibility doesn't exist and you are still so brazen to bring a massively buggy game to the customer ... it will be like TES-Online

(where I even participated in the closed beta).

The "closed" as well as "open" beta phases served pure marketing ... reported bugs were not fixed and remained in the game for many months.

The learning curve at Bugdesta is negative from the customer's point of view.

That means - they are getting more and more brazen to push faulty products to their customers with "golden" words ... the only thing this company is good at -> marketing.

Learning curve for the players aka customers -> very different

Well - they are just games ... they don't kill people when they are used ... unlike cars ... but we would never buy such a piece of junk (from a car) ... we only allow ourselves this "luxury" with games.

?

---

If you look at the discussions from the time around the release of Fallout 76 ... everything has been there before or

it's like being in a time loop ala "and every hour the Ralof greets me".

?

Performance looks better than previous video which is expected, shooting is same as fo4 it's fine for 2 hours but fights feel like meaningless cacophony afterwards, seems to be leaning on sandboxy open world type gameplay like NMS and other such games which I have little interest in, probably inferior tears of a kingdom in that regard, c&c should be almost non-existent above fo4 at 76 level if lucky definitely no new vegas. Looking at past I expect great failure on the modding scene, hopefully I'm wrong.

Spaceporn the game.

They've removed boradband from the minimum requirements, I'm told. Still on the recommended level, but that implies that offline play is possible.

Honestly, I'm relieved.

Morrowind for setting, depth of lore and absurd degree of player freedom it affords. Oblivion for the guild quests. Skyrim for graphics, animations, and for the number of available mods.

Overall, I'd have to say Morrowind, but each has its strengths.
