Has anyone ever gotten malware from any of the downloads?

Genuinely curious because I've never heard of anyone ever getting any, even if it was from a link that lead off-site to a MEGA download or something.

So far never. Unexpected for a webside like this but I guess the creators hate malware too^^

I've been wanting to get back into modding but been a bit paranoid about malware- it's somewhat less paranoia inducing to know that, if there have been any malware infections, they're so minimal that no one knows about them. Even with creators using MEGA or, in some cases, mediafire to host their downloads instead of loverslab directly, I've never heard of anyone getting any sort of virus.

I'm mostly just worried about someone pulling a Garry's Mod Glue Library if anything.

Never had any issues with downloads from LL containing malicious files.

You can always (should always) run the files through your AV / Anti-Malware programs to make sure they are safe.

I'm aware of that, it's just the fact that AV doesn't 100% without failure catch malware, even if you do have the best product in the world.

To be honest, I've been a little careless when it comes to downloading mods. however I've never gotten any sort of malware. and a common misconception of Malware/Viruses is that simply downloading it will cause it to infect your computer, however pretty much any piece of malware or virus actually require you to run a form of software.

almost all mods come in 7.zip or .rar and pretty much any sort of virus requires you to run a program, so dont run any .exe or programs you dont trust. and make sure you have an antivirus on. worst I've gotten is just a caution from my antivirus about potential threats.

Only time I've ever accidentally downloaded malware was years ago when I was a idiotic kid (Not from Loverslab or Nexus though, completely unrelated website), and even then, my windows defender back then forcefully deleted it and wouldnt let me even view the file.

I mean, the problem with that is that, for example, Apropos2 has a JSON_Validator .exe file. It's a popular mod so I wouldn't really think much of it, but after the Glue Library incident with Garry's Mod, I've been hesitant of trusting mod developers, even if they have a good reputation. Furthermore, a lot of mods have .dll files which, if I'm not mistaken, can act almost exactly like .exe files. Lastly, anti-virus software do miss things occassionally- they're not perfect.

Though, everything I said could also me just being extremely too paranoid than I should be when downloading NSFW mods from a site that's been up for years and, at this point, has a slight reputation for never having malware.

Okay my guy, look. dont take this the wrong way, but yeah... your extremely paranoid, and maybe modding just isnt for you.

one thing I will state is you wont experience anything like the Glue Library incident on Loverslab or Nexsus, as the main reason it happened was because Steam auto-updates games and mods by default, and many people had their steam library set to auto-update. The mod developer has mental health issues and bro couldn't handle the typical backlash and harassment developers experience when a game receives an update that breaks their mod. its unfortunate and people shouldnt do it, but people still do it. so he did what he did.

One thing I will say is that Loverslab by far has one of the better communities for Skyrim modding, and everyone here is a adult (atleast should be) and typically dont harass mod developers, pushing them to upload malware as a form of resignation from the modding community.

so in the end, don't run programs you don't trust, and don't harass the mod developers lol.

People who spread viruses, in general, are lazy. they make a virus, then fake a size corresponding to what your downloading (like for a movie or something), then getting you to open/run the file. to do so here you need to make an actual mod, that actually works, and is decently popular enough to even try. and if that happens then the comments will be spammed to oblivion i would bet. I have never seen or heard of viruses being spread on here, too much effort. Thats just my view anyway.

Some malware code can be executed automatically without any user input. Browser and OS always interact with a downloaded file in some way or another, and that interaction can be turned into executed code by an attacker. Ofc this requires the attacker to have a very good understanding of security flaws in those systems, so not everyone who codes malware can do it. And no matter what companies tell you, their software always has some security flaws that can be taken advantage of.

the most I've seen is someone just posting links to xxx nsfw video sites, as compared to a mod author doing the description of a mod with a link to a review by MxR or others on youtube.

3.5 years, no issues.

Maybe? I downloaded a mod that had a suspicious .exe, when I unzipped the file, the .exe tried to run and my anti-virus flagged it and blocked the connection.

I wouldn't have been too concerned but the mod was removed maybe 5 minutes after I downloaded it and the dude was banned, I was feeling uneasy about it. I ran Revo uninstaller and still found traces of that file.

Modding sites, torrent sites (yes, contrary to the popular opinion) etc aren't places typically targeted by malware. Writing and distributing malware is a business, it has its expenses, and writing malware to put it into some mod would be like preparing a grand heist to rob a grandma's house in a poor neighborhood to steal her socks and pillows.  There is always a possibility though of someone uploading an infected exe or dll file by omission due to them having malware on their own machine - those things can actually spread by attaching them to others code.
