monkinsane Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) I'm thinking of adding the AI NPCs mod (https://art-from-the-machine.github.io/Mantella/pages/installation.html) to my install, curious to see the results. Will be running it off a locally installed language model - not gpt. I'll post the result if anyone's interested. EDIT: OK, It works well enough - problem is it seems you need God-Tier Hardware to use it and for the game to be playable. My Ryzen 5 3600 / GTX 1080 / 32 GB Ram just ain't cutting it. Also, it would be really helpful if you could include a note about mods that might impact productivity, like 4K textures or Parallax or ENB. 2
Aylis Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 @Simpossible_xx The files with parallax usually have it in their name. (or in the description of the mod) Generally i'll go with 2K textures. The exception are textures that are in your face... Like weapons, armor, skin, etc. See my recommendation on page #1. 1

Tiemphyx Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 @Aylis : This list suggests there's going to be a whole lot of HUD info on the screen. Will there be a single, clear-screen HK option like iHUD has for those times you just want to enjoy the stunning new view?
Aylis Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 @Temphyx There isn't that much on the screen... Spoiler Most of the mods are just for style when something pops up. The clock can be set up however you like and i usually use 'TM' for screenshots. Atm i'm more concerned with redownloading everything i need and get it working too (already had some hiccups). Later i'll look into a UI that only shows needed elements and hides everything else. In the end i want to have an UI like this most of the time. Spoiler Hmmm, time to add a real lighting mod... 2
_Warhawk_ Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 @AylisI can't wait to see what you do with the newest update. I am also glad to see you feeling better as well. There has been some compatibility issues with some of the mods currently in the list that have popped up so it does need a refresh. 2
Aylis Posted July 6, 2024 Author Posted July 6, 2024 (edited) Split 'Creatures' into 'Animals' and 'Creatures'. Split 'World - Locations (Exterior Skyrim)' into 'World - Locations (Exterior Cities)' and 'World - Locations (Exterior Skyrim)'. The changes half the original entries and should make it easier to install the groups. _________________________________________________ The files for the LOD creation got their own place in 'World - LOD'. Easier to find for their deactivation. Finally got to armor. Spoiler Edited July 6, 2024 by Aylis 3

I found your recommendation, thank you! I've been following your guide and downloading a lot of 4k textures and parallax/ENB mods, but now I'm worried about the impact this might have on my game's performance. I currently have a 1050 ti and going to upgrade it soon, any suggestions on which textures/mods I should use would be greatly appreciated. Another thing that really concerns me as a beginner is the mod order. I know that mod order is important to avoid conflicts, but I'm not sure if certain mods, like textures that don't overwrite each other, may not be placed in a specific order and can be installed later. Right now I'm installing all mods one by one in your mod order and don't know when or how should I test them.

Right now I'm installing all mods one by one in your mod order and don't know when or how should I test them. So normally, textures won't directly impact performance (frame-rate). This is generally true up until the textures take up more RAM than your graphics card has available - at which point your frame-rate will tank to basically single digits... though slow RAM could cause load bottlenecks. Not sure how much RAM your 1050ti has (looks like 4gb?). So you might want to try to keep to 1k textures generally, with some 2k candy periodically perhaps. The resolution you play at will also effect your RAM usage. Nice thing with texture mods, is that you can pretty easily just install upgrades pretty easily if you get a new card with more ram and grunt. As long as it isn't packed and have a plug-in, you can add/remove/exchange any texture mods as you see fit. With the card you have now, I'd recommend staying away from parallax. It does add additional system strain, but will look great once you have a card that push it. You don't have to AVOID parallax textures, just make sure you have them turned off in ENB. It's the processing that adds strain, not the textures themselves. ENBs are available that are relatively light on system load, and you can also turn off features to tune as you like... though that can get overwhelming pretty quickly too. MO2 is really nice for how easy it is to adjust load order/overwrite order. Just drag up/down, and good to go. If you're not sure if you like one texture mod overwriting another, you can click on a mod - look at the conflicts - and double click on a conflicting file. Assuming it's a texture or text file, it will show the conflicting files and you can cycle through to see which you might prefer (loved finding that out myself). If you find that you prefer specific files from different mods, but the mods themselves will only overwrite eachother fully - you can isolate and select to "hide" individual files. That gives you a bit more granularity to picking and choosing between preferred textures. But, most of the textures you're going to be seeing are going to be pretty good already, so avoid digging into the weeds too soon. Once you get used to doing this a bit, you'll find yourself spending more time mod-shopping than you ever do in-game... it's a curse. 1

I'd suggest going with max 2K textures - got a GTX 1080 and my system struggles in certain locations - even on 2K ( Whiterun Exterior for example - as I aproach I get 30 - 35 FPS). Mind you - I am also running a lot of scripted mods - so more likely my issue is to do with that. I've attached a screenshot from my game - this is a mix of 4K for the NPC's and the rest is either 2k or 1K Textures. Looks good enough for me until I can afford a new GPU. I'm also using a FSR2 Upscale plugin in-game, that works a treat too. You can always grab the 4K packs, see how it performs - and if performance sucks - use Cathedral Assets Optimizer (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/23316) to downscale the 4K to 2K - and then to 1K if necessary without having to download a different Texture pack. I tend to do this, grab the biggest and baddest - then downscale them myself as necessary. LAST EDIT: You can also use Community Shaders in conjunction with Reshade instead of an ENB. It's less resource-heavy than ENB and looks almost as good. That's how I'm set up ATM. Edited July 7, 2024 by monkinsane 1
Aylis Posted July 8, 2024 Author Posted July 8, 2024 Finally got what was wrong... Tried for several days to get Majestic Mountains to work. It couldn't, as 'Simplicity of Snow' is, even with the patch, incompatible. But you get that info only if you check every mod thoroughly (aka comments too). And all versions of BDS are a P.I.T.A. and sadly not the edible version. So i'll be using ERM instead. Btw. so far thankfully no issues regarding the update from Bethesda. The first gameplay mods seem to work fine. Split 'Weapons and Armor' into five groups ('Armor - Heavy' is still big). Split 'Gameplay' again. Sort of essential and non-essential mods. Started to remove mods which could either cause issues over time or felt out of place. 'Unbound' feels a bit clunky at the start but is imho the best option for having an alternate start. You decide how and where you start with your PC. You can even get rid of being the Dragonborn (and still have the option to use shouts). Armors are varied and look incredible without using most of the vanilla armors (good riddance!). 3

Be wary of Enhanced Landscapes as well - looks great but conflicts with AE content (certain AE dungeons become inaccessible due to being under the terrain - there are patches for some - but not all.). If you're not on AE it's not an issue though. Currently using ERM and it looks pretty good. I've never used unbound, so it'll be interesting setting up the new modlist once it's done. I've always preferred LAL as it has never given me any issues. Good luck and thanx for all the effort. Your current modlist saved me a whole bunch of testing. Edited July 8, 2024 by monkinsane 2

Guest Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 (edited) Some Landscape info. I've been using Atlantean Landscapes since first adding Aylis list last summer. Currently on the latest version of Atlantean but the Mountain textures need something and didn't want to try the Majestic Mountain route. ERM was no longer an option even though I loved them. On the Atlantean Landscapes page there is listed a texture mod "Ritin Landscapes" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/121614 . It is listed in the "mods requiring this file" section main page. Even listed as recommended by Wizkid so I decided to try it. Followed the Riton page and loaded Riton Mountains after Riton Landscapes. 4k landscapes and 8k mountains. I know, crazy right? Just wanted to test but the overall is fantastic. Greatly improves the overall of the landscapes and especially the mountains. For me. NOTE: may be a mistake but I used the Atlantean page LOD settings when running Dyndolod and using Dyndolod NG. I have been using the STEP guide recently for settings. I think I have found my setup for now. Look forward to seeing what Aylis does with the new pack. (still on 1.6.640) EDIT: The Ritin mods load after Atlantean. Forgot to clarify. Edited July 8, 2024 by TFor2 New info

Are you still going to use Atlantean Landscape -Complete- Complex Terrain Parallax and/or Terrain Parallax Blending Fix? I finally updated them (Terrain Parallax Blending Fix updates seemed to slow down), but Atlantean claims to not be compatible with ERM.

Guest Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) Silly Question: Tried to load a mod by dragging and dropping from Downloads (right side) into left side of MO2. It showed me a red circle with a line through it and wouldn't let me do it. Loaded mods this way up to yesterday and ever since starting MO2. Tried running MO2 as administrator and without. No change. Never seen this before and at a loss for what happened. Can load directly by downloading a mod manually to computer and then drag and drop. FYI - game runs normally. Thanks EDIT: Now can only load through the MO2 "File" Load mod process. Confused and dazed here. Edited July 10, 2024 by TFor2 More information
