archgeek Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I'm trying to install Sexlab, but the current instructions seem to assume too much understanding on my behalf. The animation skeletons, nude bodies, and anything else not explicitly needed to run Sexlab, but important nonetheless, are barely mentioned, or passed over completely. Could someone please create a detailed guide, something akin to the guide available for lovers with pk for oblivion; I was able to follow that despite not understanding half of what it was telling me to do. Please don't just link me to existing guides, I've looked at them and just come away perplexed. Ideally a clear guide would list in what order each and every file needs to be installed, and by what manner (NMM, manually, etc). I know how to intall mods, but I keep getting mixed messages or no indication at all as to what should overwrite what to make it all work.
Ashal Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 If you know how to install mods you know how to install SexLab, it's no different. Drop the files in your data folder, run GenerateFNISForUsers, activate in load order, done. There is nothing special to it.
archgeek Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 I get that part, it's the skeletons, the nude bodies, stuff like that I can't figure out.
Ashal Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I get that part, it's the skeletons, the nude bodies, stuff like that I can't figure out. All of which are not only optional, but also install like any other mod and have nothing special about them.
archgeek Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 I know they're optional, but you'd want them anyway. The main issue I have is how to correctly install the male body you suggested with the animation skeleton. And I only got that far by checking two or three installation guides. I'm not asking for a clearer guide just to solve my problem. I remember my first time installing things from loverslab, and without a clear guide it was daunting, and something of a mess for several days before I got the hang of it. A clear guide with "this skeleton, these nude bodies are easiest to install, and you do it this way in this order" would be helpful.
ascension Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 One of these already exists, Ark of Truth made a guide a week or so ago. Sadly I can't remember where he put it.
archgeek Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 I've seen it, and whilst it is good, it doesn't cover what I'm talking about. I can get Sexlab, FNIS and everything else that's required. It's the optional but needed stuff I'm talking about, the animation skeleton and nude bodies. I get there's no required body, but all I've got is a few suggested mods, and some unspecified problem that requires a patch, and no clear guide how to install it all correctly. I could flail about with this for a few days until it works, but it would be simpler, and better for anyone else like me who tries to install Sexlab, if someone would write a clear guide to get everything, required or just useful, and how each part needs to be installed, what order so the correct files overwrite incorrect files (this is something to do with the male nude body, but the instructions on how to install it all are confusing, something about the animation skeletons I think), when FNIS needs to be run, etc. A stable and widely used skeleton and nudes would be best. A good step-by-step, as was done for lovers with PK. I'm only having problem with the ancillary stuff, but if I'd been greeted with this when I started it would have turned me off the whole thing.
ascension Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 optional but needed? I have to go to Ark's tomorrow so I will see if he has the updated one still. I know he made a guide which covered all this, he most likely hasn't released it yet.
archgeek Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 I've seen one by Ark, I think on page 3 of the technical support. If there's another maybe it covers what I mean. I mean the animation skeleton and the nude bodies. I'm almost certain there's compatibility issues with body types available and the skeletons, but there's a patch needed for the male nude suggested by Ashal in the main framework post. Virtually the only thing that needs to be covered beyond what Ark already mentions is a specific skeleton mod and a nude female and nude male mods, a set that works and if possible is simple to install. I think I may have been premature in starting this post. If anyone can recommend a male nude that works with XP32's Maximum Skeleton (the one everyone suggests) without needing a patch, then I'd be grateful. The explanation for installing the one suggested by Ashal is confusing to me.
Guest Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I agree with the OP. There is a vast array of mods like SOS, XPMS, SMS, Better Males, and combination skeletons talked about on the forum. I've justed started playing with the SexLab framework, but it is quite unclear to a newcomer what to install. It would be cool to know what isn't necessary, what the mods offer beyond the SexLab framework, what the install order and compatibility should be, etc. For instance, look at this thread. And don't get me started on the perfectly incomprehensible instructions for the skeleton compatibility mod.
lordofthedread Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Dont make confusion between SexLab and nude bodies or things like. If you want to learn how to mod your game there are plenty of tutorials out there, Gopher did put some on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxQ1JN_X-_Y&list=PL20E326325BADAE44 It is only one example, theres plenty more. I personally never had troubles to install SexLab with skeletons, Sexlab does not contain any skeleton replacer by itself, it just contains BBP enabled animations, if you dont know what BBP means I am sorry to say but you need to review some beginner tutorials before coming here and complain.

Confusion isn't my intention. I am looking for clarity. The best I can see, in addition to the thread I previously linked and the post by Ark previously mentioned, is looking at the SexLab Framework Development Updates/Feedback/Discussion and looking for: All new animation alignments were based off these settings: UNPB for females SOS default/average for males xp32 skeleton Nords used for all actors Even Actors Height MCM option enabled No race resizing plugins loaded none of the above are required to run things and you shouldn't have any issue with CBBE other than needing to do some minor alignment adjustments. only thing XP32 brings to the table is it enables bouncing butts and boobs for some animations. As mentioned before, SoS wont line up until the author of SoS release the new version. In the mean time, target the npc you are about to have sex with, and up page up and page down to bend schlongs during sex scene. I'm not complaining and I am not in need of a general mod tutorial. I just think it would be cool if there was one place for this kind of thing. (Well, I am complaining about the XPMSplusSOS instructions, but that is another matter)
Ashal Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 It's entirely irrelevant, if you want to use a certain nude body, read that nude bodies install instructions. Which will likely entirely consist of either "drag and drop the files into data directory" or "open in NMM to run install wizard & select the options you want". There is absolutely nothing special you have to do to make any of it work with SexLab. XPMSplusSOS is no different either, it's a patch for XPMS, as is made clear on it's nexus page. So install XPMS, then install the plusSOS patch. Done. And furthermore it's optional, if you don't want to use it or can't figure it out, use a different one and avoid the whole XPMSplusSOS confusion.
lordofthedread Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Adjustements for bodies are something that should be handled on the dev part and not on the user part, the only thing you can do is playing with positioning keys. You are the one that is confused and I strongly suggest you go back and watch some tutorials, Skyrim is easy as it gets to mod, you dont need any knowledge to do so apart from few guidelines that are included in tutorials. One of these guidelines would be : read the description of any mod you install.
Guest Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I'm not sure why you guys seem to think that either the OP or I are referring to generic mod install instructions .
Someone92 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 See if this helps: http://www.ryonani.com/normal-games/5056-tes5-skyrim-kind-modding-log.html
Ashal Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I'm not sure why you guys seem to think that either the OP or I are referring to generic mod install instructions . Because there is nothing anywhere in SexLab, the useable nude bodies, or skeletons that isn't a generic mod install process. Want to use XPMS as SexLab reccomends? Great, read the instructions XPMS has for installing (aka run the install wizard from your mod organizer) Want to install 4udik's Male Body? Great, read the basic and clear instructions on the 4udik body page where you downloaded it from Want to install SexLab? Great, drag and drop the files into the data directory and run GenerateFNISforUsers I'm just failing to see where the confusion could possibly coming from. Nothing SexLab or nude body related has anything out of the ordinary as far as installing mods goes. A "SexLab Install Guide" is at it's core "generic mod install instructions"
archgeek Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 I've sorted my issue out, but it took some fiddling. I think I was hasty in my first post, the instructions were confusing, but eventually I got it. It's less about the existing instruction not being clear, and more to do with them being all over the place. You have to go to quite a few different pages to find all the instructions, and that can seem like a huge problem to new people (it was for me at first). The spread out instructions and little missing details (nothing impossible to work out, but still not there) make the whole exercise feel much mor difficult than it is.
RetroicDescent Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Just a quick question, when I extract the files for the framework in my Data folder, do I combine the sexlab files with the regular ones or keep them inside the framework folder? Here's an example: I extract the files, go into the framework folder, take the files out individually and merge them with the main files( meshes, textures, etc.) Am I supposed to be doing that?

Speak for yourself, I don't use some of those things you mentioned and enjoy Sexlab just fine. And like everyone else mentioned, each and everyone of those things have their own guides in their mod pages. And here is the thing, most of them are as simple as taking the mod folder and merging it with your data folder. I don't want to kiss up to the boss or anything, but you can't expect Ashal or anyone else make a detailed guide about how to install absolutely everything that one way or the other might be related to Sexlab. It's impossible and a waste of time, given that those mods have their own detailed explanations.

That's hard to prevent without limiting player choice. Some people use UNP, some people use CBBE. Some people use TBBP, some people use '360 walk with BBP'. Some use 4udik, some use better males, some use SoS. You can't make installation instructions as you suggest without forcing people to only install one type of mod which they might not prefare out of a list. if you'd try, you'd probably end up with really confusing installation instructions with conflicting stages.

A single set of "recommended install" instructions wouldn't hurt and may help some, which just explained SexLab + XPMS + UNPB + 4udik's, then let people spread out into their own preferences for bodies and figure those out for themselves. I wouldn't consider writing such a guide a high priority compared to many of the other SexLab related things on my plate however, because as stated; those mods all have their own individual in depth install guides already.
Siren's Wrath Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 So. I am rather new to all this as well. And this topic question has some validity to it, at least for myself, and it seems we aren't the only ones. My problem is I cannot figure out how or what you do to get the animations starting. I have sexlab and its requirements installed from this http://www.loverslab.com/topic/16623-skyrim-sexlab-sex-animation-framework-v114-updated-0724/ thread. But there is so much material on the downloads section it is quite confusing. So if anyone can point me in a more clear direction that would be really helpful.

SexLab Romance is an easy dialogue controlled sex starter that's good to start with.. Unfortunately it's not been updated in some months. SexLab Submit lately added similar functionality though among more functions it carries, read up on it all in it's thread. I'd recommend starting with checking out the threads for SexLab Submit, Defeat, Lover's Comfort and Radiant Prostitution. (While Sanguine's Debauchery is fantastic, it might be worthwhile to wait for it's "sequal" instead, for now.)
