KoolHndLuke Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 I mean... has anybody ever heard of relationships that started online working out? How about ones that stay online because of distance or something? Does a more or less permanent online relationship even qualify as 'real'? Tell me what you think about it.
Keuler5000 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Well, I used to get to know some women over the internet, sometimes it was ok and some not and some just come for quick sex and you never see them again that's just my experience
worik Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 ? I'd say that's depending 100% on what you expect to get out of that relationship. I'm too old for the "starting" thing. But it's definetly an enabling factor when work forces a physical distance upon us.
Guest Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 > I can tell only from my own experience; i was in love relationships that started on Internet and ended after some time in RL. I also was in virtual love relationship and never met a person in RL. It also last for some time until he "disappeared" or virtually fell in love with someone else. Now, some people would say that virtual love do not exist, but I disagree. Anyhow, I believe that it may last and I know some people who are still together in RL after starting their relationship online.

NymphoElf Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 From what I've seen, it's rare. Not impossible, but rare. I've heard of people getting married after starting an online relationship, but I've heard of far more not working out. I had an online relationship about 10 years ago and it barely lasted more than a month or two. The physical disconnection is simply too hard to overcome for most people.

It will change your life

See.. that's my problem. I just don't see it as anything that can last without the physical part. Now maybe interacting together online can satisfy some of that, but not all. Besides, when a relationship starts out even sort of under the pretense of actually meeting at some point and then one backs out of that for *reasons* when pressed, the other will likely get suspicious, become distant and eventually- if not immediately- move on.

You may also disagree with me but many love relationships and marriages broke up because of lack of sex. My wife and I love each other but we fucked both genders if we found them attractive. But I am very aware that romance is also important part of one relationship. Romance that includes, kisses, touching, physical nearness. So, some people are closely attached to those and if they can't have it, relationship is getting cold. Me? I also needs these aspects of relationship, but as I said: if I can't have sex with my virtual lover, I would have it with someone in real life. In 99% cases my type of virtual relationship doesn't last long.

That seems a little unlikely. More that they might get the impression that you're promiscuous. But how the fuck can anyone expect a commitment from a virtual lover in the first place? That's just selfish imo and not very realistic. I'd rather they be truthful with me and share their experiences than lie and say they're being faithful or some such. Acceptance and realistic expectations are what I've learned work best at keeping things going. But you also need to know when someone is just stringing you along for fun and has no intention of it being anything other than that.

So, some people couldn't distinguish virtual love from real love. It's not the same just like virtual sex and rel sex. Although it is funny fact that few times I had better virtual sex than real sex
Guest Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 My wife and I met online in a forum we mutually belonged to. I live in the mid-west and she lived in the south-west at the time. We talked for hours every day and finally met in person after 2 months of talking. We have been together 17 years now and it has been the best, most fulfilling relationship in my life.
AKM Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 It's mostly already been covered, but at some point, you MUST close the physical gap and see if there's anything there - or just move on. A relationship of the type you're talking about (romantic) can't last long in only electronic form. I've had a few where I met someone and got along well electronically, but in person it just flopped. Oh well. The problem is that, intentionally or not, we don't present our true selves in electronic communications. There's always something missing that's usually painfully obvious almost immediately upon meeting in person. Of course, a far more likely aspect is putting forth unreasonable expectations of perfection, in whatever form 'perfection' takes for you, and putting that on the other party before you meet them in person. Tends to be overly perfect in my experience, resulting in reality being a let down.
stingray1995 Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 NO. And 9.9 times out of 10/dollars to donuts, if and when you decide to take the risk of meeting her at the coffee shop, she was showing more in those pictures than she let on, and worse-case-scenario (editing: I can think of many of those), it's not a 'her,' it's a 'he,' and he's a large guy who wants to sell your sexy skinny ass and big snake out of the grass into sex trafficking.

Its a platonic relationship. Can work, its safe but maybe not satisfying.
pinkfluf Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 Hmmm what kind of relationships? cause I've had.... Stalkers - When I was playing conan exiles I built on a server got bored, moved to another server etc etc. One day I went on a PVP server and thought "this ain't bad, not as violent as I thought everyone's even friendly". Next day some russian's came on and killed everyone...cept me. I was...elusive. Didn't help when I wrecked their buildings and killed some in their sleep. They somehow found me on every other server I went to, last in chat message was something along the lines of XYZ : "Fluffy?" Me: "yay" XYZ: "where r you? stay where u are we just wanna talk". That's the last time I played conan. Friends - When I was still playing Conan I came across a beautiful built city on an almost derelict server, built by four online friends since they were teens. Buildings run on timers when they expire the building gets deleted by the server unless the owner "visits" the structure. Anyway came across a giant cake and asked in chat message about it, one of the friends said it was built for another friend which was sweet and that when he went to thank him he got no response, it's only after a while they found out he died in real life. So now they no longer play conan but they still come on the server to refresh the building as it's the last thing they did together with their friend.
TakumiiSakura Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 I personally couldn't imagine one. The thing is simply that the physical aspect is just missing. I want to cuddle, kiss and have sex with my partner. Who would hug me if I'm sad? Do I always have to sleep alone? These are just some aspects that would make it almost impossible for me. I need to admit that I had a realtionship with an app once (I'm lonely ok? xD) It made me more sad than anything else?
LydiaJoystickDeetz Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 All but one of my relationships started online. However, regardless of distance or close proximity, they all failed for different reasons. One was cheating, another was constant comparison to exes because my wounds were too fresh, another was simply too depressing to handle and another two were way, way too sexual with me. I'm asexual but want someone to love me. However, my asexuality is not their only obstacle. I also have Asperger's Syndrome, which comes with sensory issues like not enjoying being snuggled or kissing... and then on top of that, I'm also a gamosexual, cartosexual, anuafsexual , animatesexual and aliussexual all rolled into one so there are plenty of grounds for them to become jealous of fictional characters. I would like to believe that an online relationship can really stand the test of time since at least two of mine seemed like they were going to come close to that but I really don't know.
LydiaJoystickDeetz Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I think I can add horrosexual to my list. I don't know if that's what it's actually called but I am attracted to a few slashers and other monsters in horror films. The weirdest one? Maybe Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. Or Jedediah Sawyer. Or Pennywise. The most normal one? Michael Myers or Ghostface.
dral3m Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Personally my longest (and current) relationship started online. We were from different countries, and moved in together after about 2 years of an online relationship. We now have lived together for nearly 10 years. It can work but you have to find someone you really are compatible with, which can be hard online, dangerous even, we sometime laugh at how stupid we were the first times we met eachother, as we went in areas like mountains off the grid and one of us could have easily been a psycho, as we didn't really know eachother that well. I'm happy it happened, because it turns out we're very compatible and relatively sane, but I don't know if I would have gone through with it now in my current mindset. I believe both of us got lucky.
Guest Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 The emotional connection you can form is real, if you are honest enough with each other it can lead to irl dating If it was purely online your missing out tho like others have said... i dont know anyone that would accept online exclusively. I hate to say it but even if you do accept purely online.. no guarantee they will. You would be better off not to ask that of another person online just enjoy their friendship if leads somewhere so be it.
