So, Just How Big is Your Mod Folder?

Before i had 45-50 gb, but i cut it down to 9.5 gb. I had a lot of stuff that i almost never used or really didnt like, and was there "just in case". It is script mods (including animations) 1.5 gb, build items (1.2 gb, mostly terrain and nature retexture) and CAS (6.8 Gb). The only things i keep in there right now are my absolute favorite items. I still have al my other mods in a different folder in case i want to add something, but right now i am very selective with what i add to the game.

Well, I have 2. I switch between them frequently. My main mods folder is specifically for cc and script mods, and my second mods folder is used for testing cc (mostly my own cc), play testing sims, sharing sims and blah blah.

Main mod folder (CC) - 47gb (Lots of facial and body presets mostly for my guys along with sliders, Roburky's fitness mod, WW, Deaderpool's MC Command Center, lots of hairs, beards, and guy cc.) I just have too many to list.

2nd mod folder ("NO CC") - 452 mb (I do use Deaderpool's MC Command Center and other "cheat mods"  though)

A more interesting question may be: How big is your Tray folder (70 MB, small I hope) and how big is your savegame (save/Slot_xxxx.save) - with 100 MB it seems to be huge.
I'm installing CC again in a fresh Mods folder, so Mods is only 4 GB (mostly animations and anim objects).

how do u organize your mods...? i see a lot of same mods with diff authors while adding new sims to my mod folder .

do i have to manually sort it out or is there a application for that?

Always best to sort them yourself if the included cc aren't in their own folder categories already.

Mods/Clothing

Mods/Makeup

Mods/Overlays

Mods/Jewelry

Mods/Shoes

etc.

If you don't know what something is for save it for later and use S4S to maybe find out more about it.

Beware of multiple Default Body Parts, Skins, Eyes, etc. as each Custom Sim creator might have used different ones as you're only allowed to use one Default of anything in game.

I tried it like that once. It was too much work to sort by slot, so now it's variations of Mods/CC/C/Creator Name, since nearly every piece of CC I have has the creator's name in the filename.

Sounds like more work to separate CC even further by author and adds far more folders too.

I don't separate Makeup into each category like Lipstick, Eyeliner, Eye Shadow, Blush, etc., as all of it is in one central folder.

Open the folder and I can see all the Authors and Types by their filenames at a quick glance from a to z.

Since my Mods/CC is under 10GB it's easier for me and since I started this method long ago when first starting with Mods/CC it's been easy to maintain.

I've also edited all the messed up CC tags with S4S and fixed them all.

For those that throw 80GB of CC into Mods over time and try to sort it out later it becomes a huge chore.

True, the number of folders can grow, but OTOH, everything by PralineSims just goes in the Mods/CC/P/PralineSims folder, and so on. I don't have folders for *every* creator, of course. That would be silly. Just the ones where I've got a dozen or so pieces by a single person.

How long does it took to clean such a big folder? Or you was deleting mods randomly?

73 GB + stuff I downloaded in last two months. Now trying to restructure, re-merge and declutter a bit my CC, which is quite a painful and long process, considering how much files I need to sift through.

I don't know how everyone else is measuring theirs, but I run a Powershell script to make sure I only get the package files and not any errant jpegs, txts, or whatever else may be strewn about.

Sitting at 54 GB, 13,626 packages.

Mostly just dumped in the mods folder. I never saw the point in organizing it since there are tools to find things and rarely any clue in CAS what the item is named, let alone the file name.

Speaking of tools, keeping this collection running smoothly is reasonably trivial with the Sims 4 Tray Importer program. It takes just a few minutes to find all the duplicates and remove them. It does take longer to go into CAS and find all the broken items. But doing a bit here and there over time gets the job done. The big problem is fixing the tags on everything because the people that make this stuff think cowboy boots are swimwear. The process is simple enough, just very time-consuming.
