mantaman Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 its the housing man, the houses on solsteim would make excellent merfolk houses, unless we just decide to give merpeople regular houses, or dwarven houses and for transformation animations, we wont need them underwater, but if were doing them on land, the process of turning into a mer should just be that the character falls forward, with the camera still stuck in the same position that it was in, then the the camera adjusts downward to show you on the ground, as a merperson and getting back up will be, the camera pans back upwards again, and your character gets legs, and plays the get off the ground animation (the one you get after you ragdoll)
firepower02 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Suludi, I tried the mermaid mesh of skirmish with your swimming animations, unfortunately it isn't compatible, the tailfin part would fold. I know you are making your own mermaid tail mesh that will be compatible with the swim animations, I hope you can share it with us. I have succesfully made a test mermaid who will change outfit whenever she's swimming or on land. edit: But since it is an outfit change, when the mermaid gets out of water, there will be instances where you will see her running/walking while still wearing the mermaid suit, and you can imagine how bad that looks, but this is only for a very short while. I tried a race change script, but for some reason, the mermaid gets confused when swimming, she keeps changing back from human to mermaid form.

The mermaid mesh of Skirmish isn't compatible with Suludi's swim animations, sometimes it explodes, and it has no texture yet. But no worries, Suludi said she would make her own mermaid mesh. Btw, I hope you will make your mermaid mesh as independently relorable from the upper body, and tail part.

Today, I managed to make a swimming mageattack animation at least but I totally suck at getting that tail armour to work. If anyone knows how to create a mesh armour and attach it to the bones, please help! Basically, I don't want an automatic change "when in water / when on land". I want the mermaids to have some control over what they do.

Can you please be specific what kind of tail armor that you like? Someone might make one but I don't know if you will like it. Basically, I don't want an automatic change "when in water / when on land". I want the mermaids to have some control over what they do. You mean they change into mermaid form regardless whether they are in land or in water, and they can also have legs if they are in water. How about for mermaid npc? When is the time for them to change into mermaid form, they kind of rely on ai package if it's not automatic. I hope you will be able to share the mermaid tail mesh, and the new mageattack animation. It would be nice to test them in game. Is there a way to make the underwater animations exclusive to mermaids?

firepower02 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 What do you mean compatible? It uses the body slot, so any armor that uses that slot won't be compatible, unless it uses a different slot. And you wouldn't like it anyway because it doesn't have genitals.

Will it become possible for your character to become a mermaid after a questline with its own tree or will u need to make a new race specificaly? I could easely see myself whinding up in a seacave dungeon being approached by some seahag who would need to transform me into a mermaid to do something dragonborny only to find out it was for her personal gain and I need to kill her being stuck with the mermaid gift/curse forever belonging neither to land nor sea but stuck in the middle

They shouldn't be start at the waist, they should be starting below the hips/ass, replacing only the legs. Takes care of your problem right there. Examples: If you look at older imagery of mermaids, you'll find that their tails started this way. The waist mermaids are the "kid friendly" version. My two cents anyway. . .

I'm still waiting for Suludi to upload her version of the mermaid tail mesh, or someone else's that she would actually like enough to test with her swim animations.
firepower02 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I added the crawl on all fours animation (which is a sneak animation replacer) to my mermaid. I have her always sneak when on land while wearing a tail, It looks convincing, but there are times when the animation would roll like a ninja, stands up, and attacking also makes them stand up a bit. I guess it was not really an animation made for mermaids, but close enough. If someone knows of another sneak animation that is similar to how a mermaid would do on land? I made 3 mermaids in my game, permanent, automatic, and voluntary. Also mermaid tail meshes are desperately needed to have variety.
mantaman Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 oi, the crawl on all fours is a good base for mermaid movement animations, but it needs tweaking in the posture: the head needs to be raised forward and maybe a bit slower? but like what i said a few pages back, if we pretty much get all the vanilla fighting/idling/crafting anims, but in a kneeling posture, it can work, of course, stuff like using the grindstone would just open up the crafting window instead of playing the animation, oi, also, you'd be immobile while swinging weapons, or having them drawn other then that, the only other mermaid movement i can think up is a tediously slow "dragging your tail behind yourself" kind of thing, which would severely nerf your ability to defend yourself, or even move outside of water ya know what would be convenient? an animation for your follower to carry you oi, also, does anyone know how to make the crawl on fours animation, the default walking animation for mers?
