Laser23 Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 The motherfucker uses a (669) area code and has a seemingly random phone number I live in California if that helps shut him up I can't deal with this anymore!
myuhinny Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 There should be a do not call list that you can put yourself on that should prevent many of them. For cell phones I'm not sure on.
jfraser Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 your phone should have a "block this number" feature

myuhinny Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 We use to have a person who would call the house and never say anything but you could hear them breathing. But we finally got rid of them because they made the mistake to call one day during the 4th of July. Phone rang dad answered it they quickly waved me over and took a fire cracker from me and placed it on top of a empty pop can. Put the phone back up to their mouth and said hello again and got nothing but breathing. Put the phone piece right next to the fire cracker and lite it. BOOM!!!! Dad hello? BRRRRRRR!!! Mom wasn't too happy with that but they never ever fucking called back again.
osculim Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Get rid of landlines. Just use cellphones. With cellphones its pretty easy there are countless apps that will stop them. Since they probably phone multiple people these apps will eventually have all the numbers reported by different people and block the calls immediately. I use to get alot of telemarketing calls on my phone but since the whole country get this crap and reported these numbers. They get blocked for me too automatically.
Guest Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 But the problem persists regardless if you use a phone blocker app. because different numbers are used. Had this happen. You just have to keep blocking numbers. And do what I do. If you don't know the number, don't answer the call. if it's that important, they'll leave a message.
landess Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 I get a 'Possible Spam' name or something like that on my cell phone automatically, but a few questions..... Are you sure it's the same person? Since the claim is 'many' different numbers - legitimately there can only be 'so many numbers' a business has contracted to be run from. Someone trolling may be able to 'bounce a call' from unlimited numbers or 'spoof' the number somehow, but that is speculation based on watching too much TV/Movies. I also have no idea if any information can be data-mined from a simple phone call.... As long as the telemarketer is indeed one - then they are part of a business likely requiring them to make at least a certain amount of calls per hour adjusted if actual sales are made. Waste their time is an option if you are unable to block them or report them for calling you as a member of THE 'do not call list'. Don't give them any personal information - or make stuff up. Keep them on the line till they realize you have no intention of 'buying' or the call is taking too long - jeopardizing their employment status. Troll them back - they will remove you from their call list themselves......

It seems to silence them on it's own.
Kendo 2 Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 The telemarketers use a dialer campaign system that will randomize their telephone number except for the area code. Blocking the number won't do anything; telling them to put you on a no-call list won't do anything; yelling and calling them every name in the book won't do anything...your number will still be listed in the campaign and the next time they run it you'll get a phone call. The next time they call BE NICE and get the name of the company they work for. Then file a formal complaint with your state's AG office (can do it on-line) and report the company for dunning and harassment. Doesn't matter if it's true or not; the calls will stop because their attorneys will have your contact info pulled so they don't get sued.

These days, I treat my cell phone more or less like an answering machine. Or, for you younger folks who don't/barely remember those, an e-mail box. If whoever calls me doesn't show up as a name/number I know (and want to talk to), it goes to voicemail, then later, if/when I feel like it, I sift through and delete them. I still block numbers I KNOW are spam or telemarketers, but as has been said many times, it's virtually impossible to 'catch 'em all'. Much like copyrighted software, for every anti-intrusion solution you can enact, the "hackers" (annoying spam people in this case) will ultimately figure out new ways around them. Much like trolls on the internet, the best defense is just to ignore them as much as humanly possible. xD

Even if you speak to a person and tell them to remove your number from their list, you'll get a call within a day or two. Wish someone made an electronic device that sent a tone back and burned out their entire network!!! Anyone making this would be rich... BUT... it was probably already done, and that person got rich when the telemarketers paid him off NOT to sell his product. ((( "This is Becky... your cars warranty is about to expire..."
Missmichellexx Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Haha I love it when they call me, I always make them feel really awkward on the phone because their calls get recorded, when I’m in the mood I start talking really flirty to them and they have to be professional.
Kitty Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Another really fun thing to do, assuming you're bored and have the time.. Just spew total nonsense at them. You'd be amazed how long they'll keep trying. Example, say someone calls you.. You: Hello? Them: Hello. This is <some random annoying person> calling to ask if you've ever considered <some product you'd already have looked for yourself if you wanted it> (for this example, let's go with new windows for your home). You: Oh, well I'm voting for Regan this year, thanks... Them: Um... so... we were calling in reference to a very attractive offer for a complete set of replacement windows for your home. If you sign up in the next-- You (interrupting them): Oh, I'm sorry. I already have an auto insurance policy. Them: ... Them: Um, <Sir/Ma'am/whatever>, We were... calling about windows... You: Oh, well that explains it then. I use Mac, so this is really incompatible with my current hardware. I don't think I can use windows... Them: Um... <click> This can (and usually does) go on a lot longer. But the less sense your responses make, the better. As the call goes on, you can actually feel their total confusion and desperation as they try and try to figure out what the hell you're talking about well enough to transfer you to whomever is actually responsible for taking your payment info, but it just never happens. I figure.. hey.. if they can call me and waste MY time, only fair I waste some of theirs in return. Also noticed I get a LOT less repeat calls from the same company with this method than I do by simply hanging up and/or blocking them. I think most of them must put some sort of "E-Post-it" in their system for all potential future calls reading "DO NOT CALL, THIS BITCH IS CRAZY!" or something. xD Note of course, this method is much less effective as time goes on, since more and more, they just have their damn computer call you. God I hate those.
