HanPL Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Skyrim can be beaten in just over two hours (if you're a developer) It's true: in two hours and change, Sam Bernstein, a member of Bethesda's QA team, managed to reach the end of the main campaign in Skyrim. Sam's time was 2:16:10, a mere 20 seconds faster than his competition, level designer Jeff Browne. The two are actually no stranger to the Bethesda speed run circuit, having participated in a similar event a few years ago in Fallout 3, in which Sam was also victorious. So what does Sam win, aside from immortal glory on a video game blog? Well, he gets a pumpkin pie from Todd Howard and he also gets the trophy you see above. What's Dragon-speak for "winner?" I think it's nothing special especially when Morrowind speed run record is 7:30 [video=youtube]
gregathit Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 While a speed run is neat-o, what I am more interested in is the opposite end of the spectrum.....what is the longest running game clocking in at????????
LordJerle Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I've spent about 2-300 hours on one Oblivion character goofing off, doing sidequests, and running through mod dungeons.

gregathit Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 300 hours is pretty impressive! Now throw in mods (especially lovers stuff) and I wouldn't be shocked if there were games running 4 or 5 times that........

HentaiGnome Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I'm not really surprised if it takes only about a couple of hours to finish the main campaign of Skyrim. If I recall correctly (and hopefully I don't get chewed out for saying so), Oblivion's main campaign was just as long if just a bit longer. I was able to do this by playing as a Warrior Barbarian and NOT doing any ingame sleeping. This was, of course, a double-edged sword: I'm stuck with the default low-level skills but at least the monsters remain low-leveled as well, therefore making them easy to kill. (Some could be defeated with just one hit.) I do admit I had the difficulty setting to the lowest possible but I don't think that was the sole-important factor that made the experience a so-called "speed run" for me.
Silk Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Just two things - Oblivion and Morrowind were always what you made it. Some people just whisked through both campaigns in a rapid fasion. Others, like me, want to savour each bit and explore every last dungeon they can find. and the second point - Oblivion and Morrowind can be beaten in 20 minutes if you try
Shantotto Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 The whole "estimated time to completely a game" is always completely meaningless since people play vastly different from one another. One guy will rush through the game, one guy will play it fairly straighty, one guy will explore the world before finishing up, one guy will sit down on benches, watch sunsets etc etc. It's even more meaningless with the inclusion of voiceacting in games since times will vary largely depending on whether you listen to everything that's said or whether you skip past the acting. I think it's safe to say that if there's one thing that Skyrim won't be, it's short-lived and small.
Ryanhabs Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 While a speed run is neat-o' date=' what I am more interested in is the opposite end of the spectrum.....what is the longest running game clocking in at???????? [/quote'] They said the vanilla game is about 300 hours. Of course all depends on how fast paced players play it at, and there's probably tons of little things to find everywhere. I know I have not been around for a while but with good reason... There are literally thousands of things to do in Skyrim aside from blazing through the main quest. You could virtually (with the help of the mod community) spend the better portion of 3 months in Skyrim and never do the same thing twice. In stock form expect to spend about a good 3 weeks to a month with an average of 4 to 6 hours daily play time to gain 100% complete but by then there should be add ons arriving from beth and outside sources. I got to goof with a 1 hour demo... yes sadly only 1 hour and its really hard not to just zone out for a few minutes when viewing a new zone in Skyrim compared to Oblivion. I was very skeptical of swapping full attention over to Skyrim right away until I played that hour demo. I am now sort of feverishly awaiting release.
FusRoDah Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Remember, It was a speedrun: -They skip enemies -They skip convo's -They fast-travel -They try it as fast as possible Oblivion Speed-run was not even an hour, like... 40 minutes. If you play normal, the MQ will be ±30 hours. So in fact, This is good news. And Besides, That game is not centered around the MQ anyways. Most people barely even did the MQ in previous games, yet still had atleast a hundred hours of fun.
demongoat Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 trophy you see above. What's Dragon-speak for "winner?" charlie sheen? so going to make a char that looks like charlie sheen:D
galgat Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I wonder what this figures too, I maybe can contend for a long time playing...LOL Or this may be a short time, i was just wondering..?
Presto Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I remember when I used to play the original Myst game in my computer class at school and beat it in 5 minutes. I also beat Morrowind in 20 minute but neither was really much fun, just more of a "oh look what I can do" kind of thing. I'll probably ignore the main quest for a good 20-30 hours into the game and maybe only complete it if I know there is a perk that I like that is unlocked through it. I can't even remember the last time I went into an Oblivion gate or did anything relating to the main quest in the current game. I think I actually only beat it twice.
LordJerle Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I went into Oblivion gates to molest my companions to a fiery background. That IS what they're for, right?
afro-herbalist Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 To be honest I dont think that really says anything good about the length of the main questline. I wonder if Bethesda thought about that lol? I know theres a shedload of sidequests, but TWO hours... Thats pretty short man! I've had Oblivion for over 3 years, and I've played it pretty extensively afaik, but theres still ENOUGH things I haven't done yet, or dont know about. I still haven't even completed the main story, cos I need to give up a deadra artifact to that religious bloke, and I'm not giving away the Skeleton key! Anyway I've been playing for over 2 days now, and I still havent even found my way to the Greybeards yet (too many good distractions), so I dont think I have to worry!
Jerbsinator Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've had Oblivion since release and I still haven't completed the main quest, it's just not that interesting to me.
afro-herbalist Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've had Oblivion since release and I still haven't completed the main quest' date=' it's just not that interesting to me. [/quote'] I think the main gripe with the Oblivion main quest, is that if you dont REALLY concentrate, its hard to even tell that there IS a main storyline. I found it really hard to keep track of the main story, or what was going on. I think in the end, the mods I had became the game, and the main quest became... something that exists in the background.
Mashi Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've had Oblivion since release and I still haven't completed the main quest' date=' it's just not that interesting to me. [/quote'] Yeah I've only ever done it once, and I keep saying. Oh I'll play it again. never getting around to it. I've never done SI either, prolly because the oblivion storyline kinda irked me too much. I'm nearly 50hrs in on skyrim and haven't finished the main quest, I'm still having too much fun running around.
