A 100 and he hated it. What would be the score if he liked it?

You cannot make a game, which has parts of its simulation calculated in the cloud, suddenly change to work on a single machine.

Suddenly? No. Practically impossible? Also no. They made the game in the first place, I'm sure they can figure out how to make a patch for it.

Zippy57 is correct, it is most certainly doable.  Maxis has even stated that they are considering it: http://www.slashgear.com/simcity-increases-stability-and-considers-offline-mode-in-the-future-10273225/ and http://games.on.net/2013/03/maxis-will-look-into-offline-mode-for-simcity-as-they-work-around-the-clock/

They are arguing that some simulation is done only by cloud computing. Which may be true, but they should be able to imitate that simulation locally.  I mean it may take some development, but theres no way its impossible to separate the game from the cloud.

Thanks guys. I just get really angry when people that THINK that what they believe applies to everyone else push their garbage out like it's fact. I don't like it when peoples issues and problems get invalidated by asshats like that. People have valid problems and are just venting. So, comments like "either get used to it" or "you should have done your research" only serve to make themselves feel like they're some type of authority and really only makes them a troll.

It's called being a good human being.

BTW... I suggest that everyone sign and spread this asap: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/institute-industry-wide-return-policy-video-games-rely-remote-servers-and-drm-function-properly/nMy1wrtC

It might do nothing, but at least you can say you tried. Right?

This ^^^ is so true. Any previous Simcity player would buy this at walmart expecting a singleplayer game. I know its on the box, but its not in the title. A game like this should be called "SimCity Online".

The only reason I can guess they didn't title it "SImCity Online" is to get those people expecting a normal offline SimCity.

A modder removed the online connection and the game worked fine. If anything is done by the cloud, it's not important enough to cause an impact in the game.

Lol, thats what I thought. We have now lost count on the amount of times EA has lied to the consumers.

EA wants to be able to turn off their servers after a year or two and force people to upgrade to the new game. Steam doesn't allow them to do that, so they don't like Steam.

"Ist der Ruf erst ruiniert, lebt es sich ganz ungeniert" ("If the reputation is ruined, one can live without shame" or something to that effect).

Actually I think a better translation is: "If you're ruined your reputation, you have nothing to lose."

From what I've read, the only things that requires the online part are:

Leaderboards, achievements, and other "multi-player" type notifications

Chat and notification messages

Save games (because SC2013/SC5/SCFIVE/SCO uses cloud saves)

He gave it a ten so it would go on top and more people would see it

He isn't the only one who needs to step down. The entire board of directors needs to go or EA will remain the terrible company it is.

I don't understand the problem with Steam's approach. I had to log in once to authenticate my game, but they allow me to play my single player games offline. Seems to be a nice balance in that way.

Also LOL EA: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/SimCity-Hack-Lets-Users-Destroy-Anyone-Online-City-Thanks-Always-DRM-53685.html

Oh god, I think my nose is bleeding from face-palming so many times. I-I... I don't know anymore. I DON'T  F*CKING KNOW ANYMORE. WHAT IS THIS?! WHAT IS MY LIFE!?

EA dun goofd BIG TIME here.

I like that the list of games users can get free because of SimCity's launch includes SimCity 4.

Ha, If people actually opt for that one, they'll see on how much they're missing out with the new SC, if they haven't played it yet. It has aged pretty well, in terms of modding support and gameplay. And the best of all: You can still play it after 10 years, because it doesn't run on a server, which EA had the chance to pull the plug on, in order to sell you their new crap.

For this bit of news, I am going to necro-doublepost this thread: http://consumerist.com/2013/04/09/ea-makes-worst-company-in-america-history-wins-title-for-second-year-in-a-row/

Congrats EA, for succesfully defending your "Golden Poo" award!

Just a little excerpt:

“Until EA stops sucking the blood out of games in order to make uninspiring sequels, or at least until they begin caring about how much gamers hate their lack of respect for our money and intelligence, this is going to continue,” writes Penny Arcade’s Kuchera. “We don’t hate them because we’re homophobes, we hate them because they destroy companies we love. We hate them because they release poor games. We hate them because they claim our hate doesn’t matter as long as we give them our money.”

For years its well known EA-Ubisoft and others use extremely DRM these days almost common(ILOVE GOG.COM(Also CDProject which give us game with ZERO DRM) Steam is my abosolute minimum DRM system i use to play games.

Ive got 60-70 games complete DRM free from old days and present anno 2013.

Wish linux was more supported to play games.

EA is for me NO GO ZONE btw:)

I actually boycotted EA after BioWare failed on TOR and completely screwed up Mass Effect 3 and sought refunds for all my EA based products.

I was not granted any refunds but have since not bought a single product published by EA in any manner....which has been kinda hard for me because I do miss my Sims quite a bit and I might have been vaguely interested in Dragon Age 3, but...such is the cost of personal integrity.

They probably aren't missing my money, but...I'm still not giving them any just the same.

So yeah I'm one of those people that totally let the Mass Effect 3 ending put me off an entire publishing companies game catalog.

I boycotte them also and believe specially with  Bioware money wise this hurts them that we don't buy there games.

I only liked in last couple of years which i bought DA:O, i never touched sinds neverwinter nights 1 any bioware game. Prolly missed some good games but i always went for gothic, drakensang and  elder scrolls games and some others.

I have a really unstable internet connection where I live, so any always-online DRM game is completely out of the question for me, even if I hadn't boycotted them on principle. (Which I certianly do for anything that isn't an MMO or similar. Buying a single player game with always online DRM is supporting really bad habits. :@ )

So companies like EA and Blizzard aren't getting any money from me anymore.

Well,I hate the policy of making unfinished games to then make them less hollow with thousands of DLCs,Capcom and EA are perfect examples of it.So yes,EA isn't getting a penny of me ever ^^

Same here, although for me it wasn't just the massive car crash of an ending. The way the ME2 characters were treated were disgusting, and the bugs that game had were incredible.

I actually refuse to accept the storylines existence in ME lore.  For me the timeline ended with ME2.

So yeah, screw you EA.

The best way to make changes in how a product is made, is to return the product and to stop buying anything that features what you dislike about it.

Purchase something else instead.   They have the right to try to sell anything they want, however they want.  You have the right to shop around for something that you are willing to pay for.  Somewhere in the middle.. the market finds the truly fair balance.

Instead of spending the time and energy on a petition, spend that time and energy to support freelance modders that use open source material.  The competition that they could potentially create by launching new independent studios to compete with giants such as EA would benefit you far more in the long run.

The message would be sent in a much louder voice when the other guy is more successful.

Oh I love these kind of threads!

With that out of the way, I always find petitions to be hilarious, more often than not they never work. For every person signing a petition and thinking they're going to make some huge industrial change, there's hundreds upon thousands of others still buying Call of Duty, still buying some sports game EA published, still buying Mass Effect or Dragon Age. These little piddly complaints don't even register on the corporate scale compared to what they're still rolling in.

Yes, EA does some shady business, everyone knows, even they know it, but the second they put out Generic First Person Shooter they're raking in money again and no one gives two flying ducks. I personally don't mind EA, I understand that, in the end, they are a business and businesses are out to make money, anyone saying otherwise is a dirty liar.

Twisting what Lodakai said, time and energy would be better wasted on something else as opposed to throwing two cents against the tide of dollars.
