Still, it's WAY over the top in relation to this silly soda pop issue which will likely just get relaxed when the next mayor comes in anyway thus earning him or her popularity from the get-go. Bloomberg was an idiot to put it in place and has made himself a laughing stock over it. *shrugs* It's not exactly a lead in to some kind of take over of people's lives.

 

 

While you are most certainly correct, it is indeed foreboding if silly laws like this don't get repealed.  Idiots like Bloomberg, and others who want to force government into places it does not belong, use test cases like this to up the ante.  Defeating stupid crap like this, is far easier if folks fight it early than if folks let it and hundreds of other similar laws get stacked upon them.  Then the fight gets nasty and is often untenable to the average Joe.

Well the ban is silly both in idea and practice. For example, 7-eleven and the like can still sell 40 ounce big gulp drinks because they're not covered by the city, but by the state. So, not only is the ban a dumb idea, it is unfairly giving advantages to certain corporations over others.

 

What I find to be a far more frightening assault on liberty is the emergency manager laws in Michigan that lets the governor more or less send in an emergency manager who will take the power from elected officials until whatever 'financial emergency' has passed. Detroit is next on the list and I find it very scary that anyone can go "we know you voted for this mayor but he's out and this guy who answers only to me is in."

It starts with shit like this, and before you know it, you're getting taxes for pasties sold in a hot counter, minimum pricing for alcohol, an annual levy you have to pay to watch TV, cigarettes that can be sold (but not displayed) in shops and supermarkets, and attempts to make all ISPs automatically filter out porn unless you "opt out" - which would you have to do after subscription and not before.

What I find abit scary about it is that, if this ban sticks in New York, other places might start thinking of doing it.

Anyway, I just cannot, for the life of me, see what is evil in a family sized bottle of soda.

Well it is meant for sodas, I don't expect it to apply to coffee, or what bizarro variants of coffee they choose to make today at Starbucks.

 

But yeah. Everything above 16 oz is meant for multiple people. The 1 and 2 liter bottle (we actually do have bottles listed in those amounts) isn't expected to be consumed by any rational human without a Michael Phelps metabolism yet they're covered under the ban. Because skrew common sense.

From all I've read they've only prohibited to sell soft-drink cups greater than roughly 0.5l at restaurants, sports arenas, movie theaters and other to-go stores, you still can go into any store and buy a 1 or 2l bottle.

 

So, in other words you cannot buy a cup (which you usually drink alone) in a size you shouldn't drink alone, and still can buy a bottle (which you can easily share or consume over several days) in a size you shouldn't drink alone; why is there such a big outcry about this?

This I agree with, there should have been a national ban on these well over a decade ago. America talks a ton of shit imposing it's will on other Sovereign nations. This is an interesting statement and I agree with it. It is almost like racism, it is better to know the person is racist so you can know to avoid them then have a person tat you trust who is secretly racist than years later they show their true colors.

You make a good point I should probably elaborate on my agreeing with the North Korea statement. Basically I agree with it assoicaitive manner as we all hear and of course can read it is not great out there and most likely no one would literally choose to live there over here. But it goes back to my point of freedoms I rather deal with a person who I know is not really looking out for my interest then those who act like they care but have other intentions. Today we ban soft drinks, then plastic bags. Then styrophome then eventually it will lead to saying things even 1/3 offensive will earn you jail time (not exactly let's hope but I hope l the drift is noted) what I am not liking is they are slowly taking freedoms on a string and baiting is with it. I think that may have been kind of her intentions in te post (somewhat).

 

But from what I have seen and heard and researched we are losing small rights everyday. I am so not going to go into specifics because I do not want to get all conspiracy theorist on it. But it think it is pretty much in plain sight what is going on.

 

My thing is I am not happy for the ban but my life is not in shambles over it, but I do fear what is next; there will be more i am sure and this scares me ><

Again, 'better' is subjective not only to each individuals opinion but also to each individuals location, occupation, level of wealth (or lack thereof), education and on and on.  Sure you can make generalized statements, but they mean very little when it comes right down to it.  The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and all that jazz........well unless you are a big gulp cup manufacturer\distributor\seller in New York City that is........

 

As to freedoms being taken away.....well, all American's are guilty (myself included) of allowing it.  At some point folks have to decide enough is enough and vote some idiots out of office.  Get enough pissed off folks together to sign a recall petition and I am pretty sure the politician will get the hint and back down.  If he doesn't, then proceed via the legal channels toss the bum out of office and make sure he doesn't ever get elected again.  Government and others will continue to take and take until folks draw a line in the sand.  This is just the way things are.

oh I am sorry for that. but don't worry there are gods among devils in everywhere. so not everyone is same you can always find good people. the thing is identify them ,close and retain them without losing that's all you have to do. one good person is better than keeping thousand of bad people around you.

I believe sometimes media makes people racism

because when I see the news on Internet I feel like sometimes I am an anti american, anti arab ,anti western. there is a site called chimp#### (search on google ^.^ ) if you make a visit to that site you can see full of anti black propaganda.

Now we are totally speaking the same language xD. This is again agreeable hence why I always try to avoid a generalized statement. We are totally guilty of it because no one puts their foot down. We kind of accept it as powerless people and they just keep taking.

 

To be honest one of the only notable times we out our feet down is when it comes to all those stop piracy acts. And this is largely in part to the anonymility hat the Internet provides (somewhat) and of course other variables. (We all kind of can figure those variables out)
