Out of curiosity Greg, how would you feel if Bloomberg did ban all the unhealthy things?

 

 

How would I feel?  Well, honestly I wouldn't care, I don't live in New York.  :P

 

Now if Bloomberg was MY cities mayor, I'd be filling out the paperwork and gathering signatures to get him recalled.  Couple that with blocking him in court and counter suing him for wasteful spending.  You can't ban unhealthy foods anymore than you can prevent people from being stupid.  :s

You said that government can't ban unhealthy foods or stupidity. I have my own answer to that question, and i'm interested in hearing your own, since the answer can vary between people. It's a perfectly legitimate and honest question, i'm simply questioning your assertion.

If you're unable to answer the question that's fine, but please be honest about it instead of throwing out wild accusations.

Come on, the answer is blindingly simple if you stop and think about it and I am completely justified answering with Mr. Trololo.  If you give government the power to ban unhealthy food and\or stupidity, then you have given them complete and utter control of every aspect of your life.  You would be unable to do (eat) anything at all unless it was part of their instructions.  You'd be a puppet or robot.  You would have lost your sense of free agency or in the US we call it "liberty".  As such, this is specifically prevented by Amendment 14:  "nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

 

Leave laws aside and focus on common sense, how in the bells of St. Mary, would a government even figure out how to legislate against stupidity?  The amount of freaking paperwork they would have to write for each and every person to "script out" their lives so they never did anything stupid would be crushingly retarded.  And who in the hell would determine what was unhealthy and how much folks could have (some things are unhealthy in large doses but fine in small).  Who is going to enforce all this BS?

 

None of this is even remotely feasible without lobotomizing freaking everyone, which of course is retardly stupid in and of itself!  Thus I answered with Mr. Trololo! ;)

Is anyone else aware that they lifted the ban? It wasn't working and they realized it pretty quick. Hell, you'd think the US government would have learned this lesson back in our Prohibition days. Banning never works, it just makes what's banned seem that much more attractive. What we need is to teach the next generation to make healthy choices and encourage personal responsibility. That's the only thing that's going to change anything.

To Leftists and Statists like Bloomturd, defeats in the court aren't even road blocks they're speed bumps. All they need is to find one higher court with a more totalitarian slant to overturn this ruling, and bam. 17+ oz sodas are banned again.
