Does anyone know where I can download, Advanced Animation Framework v172.0 NG?

As has already been said, the AAF Discord server, but that's also where you end up if you're following the manual and click for it the link in the requirements section. Each and every requirement has a link in the manual:

anyones knows if Skimpy Armor Keyword Resource (SAKR) is working with the next-gen update?

It should work fine with NG, it's just a plugin and some Papyrus scripts with no requirements other than the game itself.

That's not an error, and shouldn't prevent AAF from working. Normally you wouldn't see that displayed, but you seem to have customized your debug logging to use pop-up messageboxes for warnings (that's not the default behavior).

Upgrading AAF does not require a new save, you've probably done something else wrong. AAF 171.0 beta is for game version 1.10.163 and F4SE 0.6.23. If you're upgrading to AAF 172.0 NG then you need the newer game version and F4SE to go along with it.

Sigh... this was very helpful.  I wish The Fucking Manual had said this - it (incorrectly) insisted on 172 and F4SE 0.7.2 with no explanation or consideration.

Now, of course, there's the brand-new AAF 1.0, which according to a comment on the discord is for both 1.10.163 and NG (though doesn't actually say that in the release notes).

I hope it works out of the box ... just an hour ago I fixed my issues by disobeying The Manual and installing FFLP v46 (for compatibility with GOG FO4), and now I'm nervously bumping up AAF to 1.0 and anticipating more days of troubleshooting.

Despite my grumbling, I am in fact grateful for your clarity!

The new AAF 1.0 working with 1.10.163 or just working with NG?

Both, I'm personally using it with 1.10.163 because I still need RobCo Patcher and SUP F4SE for some of my mods and they're not ready for NG yet. Also the Buffout4-NG which has supposedly updated for NG support doesn't implement the ScaleForm memory pool expansion that pre-NG versions did, which could lead to problems if using a lot of other ScaleForm-heavy mods (HUD/UI stuff especially). Though Perchik71 this week released a brand new memory manager mod, so maybe there's hope for an alternative in that space now.

Just keep in mind that future releases of AAF will eventually drop support for the older game version (how soon that will come is hard to say just yet).

There's 2 .dll files in AAF 1.0.

One is for 1.10.163 and one is for NG. The FOMOD installer should help you pick the right one for your game version. Corrected by vaultbait below (both get installed, F4SE just picks the right one for the game version).

Question for the devs on a similar note, any plans to use Address Library in the future?

Close. You are correct that two DLL files are included, one each for pre-NG and NG game versions. But the FOMOD installer just installs both and lets F4SE sort it out:

(from my f4se.log)

checking plugin C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\\LL_fourPlay_1_10_163.dll
plugin C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\\LL_fourPlay_1_10_163.dll (00000001 LL_fourPlay 00000031) loaded correctly
checking plugin C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\\LL_fourPlay_1_10_984.dll
plugin C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\\LL_fourPlay_1_10_984.dll (00000001 LL_fourPlay 00000033) reported as incompatible during query

I just want to point out clearly, for any like me running GOG's 1.10.163 Fallout:

  • the new AAF 1.0 NG supports both 1.10.163 and (NG) 1.10.198 Fallout, with no effort by the user
  • this Fucking Manual is written only for NG Fallout, but almost perfectly works, except:
  • for pre-NG Fallout, one absolutely must ignore step 1 and install F4SE 0.6.23 (at the same link as in step 1)
    • The link to F4SE makes that clear.  You shouldn't be running F4SE 0.7.2 with Fallouot 1.10.163

I really appreciate Saya Scarlett's guide, it's overall fantastic.  But I don't know if it's a philosophic disagreement or what, but nowhere does it let users know that it assumes - wiithout listing as a requirement - that the user is running NG.  This caused me hours of wasted effort (with AAF 172, there was also a problem with LLFP, not just F4SE), and I assume did this to others too.

As to the underlying thinking: I would hope that in a community which has so many non-mainstream interests, the AAF team would see the value in supporting non-DRM versions of games - it's not as if Valve is comfortable with the sort of mods here on LL, though their history of "damning the torpedos" is better than most corps.  But I recognize that those working on AAF are doing great work for no pay (and considerable grumbling from the likes of me), so I know they don't need to listen to me.  You devs are great.  It's very cool that AAF 1.0 supports 1.10.163.  But a quick "this guide is only for Fallout 1.10.980" in this thread would help newbies like myself that trust it blindly.

I think it mostly just assumes that the GoG version of FO4 doesn't exist, and the Steam version is all there is. Keep in mind that the people writing and maintaining the guide and providing support in the AAF Discord are using the Steam version, and also the AAF maintainers aren't going to want to have to test with and keep support for multiple versions of the game indefinitely because there's only so many hours in their day. It's possible that groundswell assistance from GoG users could alter that, but the only way to know is to start actively helping out.

Read the rules in the rules channel and react with the emoji under the last message there, then the other channels will appear. In the public release channel you'll find AAF 1.0 which is the latest version and works with both the older version of the game (what 171.0 beta was used for) as well as the new "NG" game version.

AAF 171.0 beta is no longer publicly available and is not supported now that AAF 1.0 has been released.

Hey there!

I noticed that AAF v1.0 is now the latest version - what's different? It'd be nice if we could somehow track the development progress on AAF, especially since the last known version is v171.0beta.

Also, why is AAF now hosted on Discord? First it was available on both LL and Nexus, then on Moddingham and now on Discord. I wanted to download the v1.0, but it seems that I've been removed from the AAF's server and I'm unable to join (this is what I get when I try to join):

Spoiler

Screenshot2024-07-27131033.jpg.f39a09251fdf0b7cbfad595e61f3ff95.jpg

I'm not that active on Discord, but I surely use it ever week or so. I can't figure out why I got removed from it because I've been a member for a long time and never offended anyone - just asked for small support here and there, looked at other people's screenshots, and that's it. Oh, and AAF Discord server is the main reason why I even created my Discord account.

Regarding the download - is there a particular reason why AAF can't be hosted on LL? Alternatively, what about cloud? Many authors upload their creations to their cloud drives and share a link to download there.

You guys are doing really good job with AAF, its support and everything in between - but the execution of it is questionable. Look at my example for reference, now I'm stuck with both Moddingham and Discord accounts that are basically useless as I don't log onto them at all, and I have no real need to because AAF isn't on Moddingham, and I cannot access the Discord server.

I kindly request support and alternative download link to the latest AAF. Thanks in advance, sorry for minor rant.

Fix The problem was NAF.INI, buried in the overwrites F4SE/PLUGINS folder. Which didn't even cross my mind because I forgot I tried the mod.

Currently on last gen. Updated Buffout 4 NG and Looksmenu to the latest version to upgrade AAF 171 to 1.0.

Even on a fresh new game with the bare minimum mods required (Buffout4NG and its requisites, Looksmenu, AAF, themes, animation packs, skeleton, body), the stuttering is so severe that it renders the game unplayable, reverting AAF alone back to 171 made the problem disappear.
Only other thing I noticed was [AAF 100%] constantly popping up and disappearing on each stutter on the upper right corner.

If you're not using the NG updated version of Fallout 4 then using Buffout 4 NG might be what's causing the issue.  Have you tried using just Buffout 4 without the NG update?

It was never hosted on Lovers Lab. It was originally on Nexus until they changed their terms of use in ways unfavorable to creators, then it moved to Moddingham but many users complained about having to make an account on some site they've never heard of, so now it's available from the same Discord server where the AAF support channels can be found.

I ran into a similar issue trying to rejoin the ZeXcord a while back. I kept getting errors about the invite. In my case I was able to log into Discord on another computer (maybe trying a different browser or incognito window would also have worked, in retrospect) and then use the invite.

I was helping another user with a similar issue the other day, and what worked for them was the green + button on the far left side of the Discord window (labeled "Add a Server"). At the bottom of the resulting dialog box click the "Join a Server" button directly beneath where it says "Have an invite already?" and then on the next page paste the invite link into the text field there and click the "Join Server" button below it.

The main reason given in the past for not having Lovers Lab as the official location for AAF downloads is that AAF isn't just a sex animation framework, and is used by other sorts of mods as well, so if it were officially hosted here then modders who aren't making adult-only mods would be much less inclined to depend on it (imagine a kid-friendly mod that uses AAF directing users to download it from LL).

This situation gets a bit confusing to untangle due to an unfortunate naming collision...

In the beginning there was Buffout 4. Its maintenance waned as the creator went on hiatus for a while, and so a fork of it was created to continue under a new maintainer. That fork, for better or worse, was named Buffout 4 NG to indicate it was the "next generation" of Buffout 4. Then the original Buffout 4 maintainer returned and made some new updates while the Buffout 4 NG maintainer disappeared for a while, so Buffout 4 was actually newer than Buffout 4 NG.

A year or so later, along comes a new Fallout 4 update, the first in a very long time, and it starts being referred to as Fallout 4 NG. Both the Buffout 4 and Buffout 4 NG maintainers indicated they were working to update their respective mods to work with the new game version, but that it would take time.

There was a period of some months where Buffout 4 NG did not work with Fallout 4 NG yet and this caused quite a lot of confusion because users thought the "NG" meant it was Buffout 4 for Fallout 4 NG. More recently, Buffout 4 NG has gotten the necessary updates to work with the new game version, the maintainer of the original Buffout 4 has indicated their update is also still in progress but it's not available yet.

Anyway, that's a very long-winded way of saying that current versions of Buffout 4 NG are supposed to work for both the old 1.10.163 game version as well as somewhat for the new "NG" 1.10.984 game version (see the "Next Gen Status Report" section on its mod page for what is actually working on the newer game at this point and what's not done yet).

Don't update LooksMenu. Older LM 1.6.x versions are what you should be using with "pre-NG" Fallout 4 1.10.163. The LM 1.7.x versions are specifically only for the newer "NG" Fallout 4 1.10.984.

First, a reminder, as the very beginning of The Fucking Manual suggests, seek assistance in the #aaf_issues_nsfw channel on the AAF Discord, the maintainers of the manual only provide support there, not here on LL.

Every case of this symptom so far has been due to the presence of an incompatible file. Make sure you don't have NAF nor the NAF-to-AAF Bridge mods installed. Clean up any empty leftover directories your mod manager may have left behind such as Fallout4\Data|NAF. There is also currently a problem with having the Visible Companions Affinity mod installed, so uninstall that if you have it (I expect that's going to get solved soon).

If none of these seem to be the case, turn on the debugging option when you install AAF 1.0, and then after starting the game you should hopefully find an AAFLog.0.log file in your Documents\My Games\Fallout 4\Logs\Script\User folder. You may need to also enable Papyrus logging first if you have not already done so. Opening that log in a text editor like Notepad, you should hopefully be able to search for lines that say "incompatible file" and that may give you some indication of what's causing AAF to constantly loop reinitialization (the cause of the "stutter" and flashing "AAF" in the top-right corner of the screen).

But really, get help on Discord, it should be a lot quicker than trying to do it on a web forum.

Can someone please post their WORKING load order AND MODLIST order.

I have previously had AAF working perfectly. I installed 2 new animation packs last night and now the game cant even start up. To make it worse, the game wont even start up after I remove the 2 new animation packs. Absolutely frustrating and perplexing as to why the previous setup that worked will not work when I return the modlist to what it was previously. I have wiped and reinstalled all mods twice now.

Yes I have read all the guides out there, please dont link me to a guide.

Do you have the UAP?  If so you need to run it again after installing any new animation packs.
