What is the next game should I play?

I've been re-re-replaying Final Fantasy XII lately. My favorite of the series.

More political storyline in that one, small kingdom trying to survive against superpowers, enormous, awesome airships, and still JRPG enough that you kill a god in the end :P

Not exactly open-world, but large connected areas. Character deveploment restricted to "jobs" that determine the equipment, skills and magic they can use. About 40 hour main storyline and maybe half of that as optional content and super bosses.

Dragon's Dogma was damn good too, giant monsters to kill, and the final dragon fight was something special. And i loved the stuff he said.

Basically the complete opposite of Durr-Imma-Dragon of Skyrim; intelligent, deep and tough to kill.

Kingdoms of Amalur is too big for it's own good. There some good things in it, but it gets drowned by the overwhelming mediocrity.

I will never buy it, but this has other reasons, I hate subtitles!
It does not matter how good a game is, when the developers are so lazy and only want to earn money, but invest nothing because there is only one voice output *english*!
then every game developer, which does this, must renounce on my money and I have a lot of it! :classic_wink:

It isn't so much a case of laziness but of developer intent. They are Japanese yet the original vocal tracks were English only. They released a patch to enable a Japanese option much later, let alone other vocal options. The game is meant to be a Western fantasy so the characters speak in an archaic form of English filled with terminology which no current English speaker still uses (save for the fans of Dragon's Dogma itself).

I use many of those words every day when getting people out of my workspace. Combine with an unflinching stare for maximum throughput.

I've beaten FFXII once.  Good graphics (for PS2) and gameplay, but I didn't care for the story or characters too much.  Guess that kept me from picking it up again.  And I've beaten FFVIII way too many times.  I might start FFX again, one day.

It does seem to be one of those games you either love or hate.

I think it was mostly hated ?

so that you understand why I will never buy such games!
this game is on the one hand very action-heavy, one have to concentrate on the game, furthermore many quests.
I want to enjoy the game and not do focus on reading!
if I want to read, then I buy myself a book, is cheaper. :classic_wink:

Forgot to mention Gothic series like guys above... Truly a masterpiece...story is really epic and overall its pretty hard game to play. Maybe its old and with archaic combat mech, but you can mod it to better graphics . Not to mention that its one of the first open world rpgs with consequences to your actions. Scary atmosphere and lot of secrets to discover. When you play through the first one. You'll want to rape the second one over and over again :D There is also a 3rd one and 4th...but in my opinion series ended with 3rd...

Thanks to everyone who replied here.  Lots of choices here and I will keep this list for future reference.  Guess I'll try Dragon's Dogma  first because so many seem to like it and then Prey because it looks so different.  Then, on to the rest.

Thanks again everyone.?

Great! If you happen to like it and work on a mod for it, please let us know. I really liked some of your mods for Skyrim (like becoming the slave in slave training)

Just looked into modding this and except for tweaks and textures, don't see how it can be done at first glance.

Some people have worked and imported meshes and textures. As far as scripting or anything else, I don't think anyone has. I dug around in it for a few days and gave up. If you're looking for a new game to mod, then maybe Divinity Original Sin 2?

DOS2 modding really never set off. I believe people said it's tools are quite difficult to use. Same as back in the day with Dragon Age Origins. That did get more mods though. Including porn ones ?

Then again, very few games have editors like the Creation Kit, not to mention the user-made tools.

Especially these days when they don't even sell you skins, they sell you loot boxes where you MIGHT get the skin you want in just five tries ?

I love Skyrim, but I am getting tired of doing it over and over.  I played Witcher 3 and liked it a lot although not as much as Skyrim or Oblivion.  I played Fallout 4 and liked it it too, but again not as much as Skyrim.  I loved the old Thief game.  I've played Mass Effect, World of Warcraft, Morrowind,  and the old Conan MMO.  Liked them all to one degree or another.  I've played lots of other games and dumped them after a few hours of play because their graphics were shit or the world was too constricting or the story sucked.

I have looked at many of the game sites looking for inspiration, but hoping a Skyrim / Witcher 3 fan would recommend something.

While we wait for till next April for Cyberpunk and who knows how long till the next Beth game, what games are recommended?  I am mostly interested in open world RPGs with reasonable to good graphics and a good story line like Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

Kingdom Come Deliverance
It's more realistic tho, don't expect to run up to 3 guys and just slaughter them, they will ruin you, unless you're really good at them game.
Even 1 to 1 combat is really hard untill you finally get the combat training early in the game which will unlock certain moves and swordmoves.

and Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I like dragon games, I loved to play.

Yeah, it was pretty cool how you could be a dragon in that game. And of course the music was awesome.

But hey, in Divnity Dragon Commander you could be a dragon with a jetpack, assisting your army in a RTS battle

And marry a beautiful elf princess ;) (Back then they didn't look like trees like in Divinity Original Sin 2).

yes, the soundtrack in Divinity 2 ego Draconis is great.
Divinity Dragon Commander I never played, It's mainly a strategy game with a few RPG elements.
Divinity Original Sin 2 would be my case, BUT as I said before, I hate subtitles, also this game does not exist with German speech output! :classic_sad:

I don't where you stand on MMO's but I consider Final Fantasy XiV a superior model to WoW.  While some may disagree that's their prerogative however the game has a DEEP storyline, well balanced gameplay and one of the most robust crafting systems I've ever seen in an MMO, trumping even Elder Scrolls Online and WoW.  It's only major flaw; its PVP content is lacking.  EVE Online is another MMO you might like but its only real flaw; GRINDY!  Get used to farming for materials A LOT and your only options are null sec areas which makes you vulnerable to ganking.

Single player games though I would have to say I would have to say Fallout New Vegas (unless you already beat it) because its RPG quality FAR exceeds Fallout 4's lackluster RPG mechanics.  DOOM 2016 is also really baddass.  Console wise my only recommendation is a very underappreciated title; Xenogears.  You can get an emulator for this incredible JRPG but be fore-warned; if all your looking for is a standard beat-em-up game its not for you.  Xenogears is a DDDEEEEPPPP story driven game with I would say very linear combat mechanics but the gameplay is only a second notice next to its abyss of a plot that'll have you laughing and crying at the same time at some points.  Just remember; Its PSOne Era graphics so don't expect very much 4k support.

I'm waiting for valuations and check out Let's Play videos and eighth thereon what the Let's Players say.
first then I buy.

Thanks for these, I had never seen or considered either of them.  They both look amazing.
