zelurker Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Unrelated to this list of mods, I had a glitch related to the far harbor dlc : I got the quest "far from home" which allows to start the dlc, without knowing that. After a while I decided to try to visit this Nakano residence, and when I got near it (distance < 100), the pointer suddenly jumped far north, beyond the limit of the map. Trying to reach it anyway, you finally get the message "you can't go any further". After searching the net about that, the best fix is simply to set bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 in the general section of fallout4.ini ! Apparently it's a bethesda bug which was never fixed. I confirm, after that I can continue north beyond the message "you can't go any further", and I indeed finally reach the Nakano residence. Now that I know it's the beginning of the far harbor dlc though maybe I'll go back and return later, I am level 17, but maybe it will be enough... Â Some other stupid thing related to the level : you get a minigun relatively early in the game, at the same time as the 1st power armor. Except you can't buy ammo for it before quite a high level, I don't know which one exactly, but it's at least 15, maybe 20. So mine is empty, stored somewhere in Sanctuary, useless. And building an ammo factory for that is not really a solution, building this ammo requires some fertilizer which I don't have ! There's something wrong here, but anyway, there are enough weapons to play without this one for a while.
misterpipes Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Never had that bug, but I'm not surprised it exists. But the way you wrote it, does that mean you've never doe Far Harbor? So lucky, I'd love to go back and do Far Harbor for the first time again. Its main quest is, well, had Bethesda done the main Fallout 4 quest with the same care, attention, and options, it would have elevated FO4 above F:NV, story/quest wise. Just so you know, Far Harbor (and Nuka World) are DLCs you can dip in and out of. You can travel back and forth between the DLC and the Commonwealth freely. The starter power armour is really part of the tutorials for FO4 - this is power armour, this is what you need to make power armour go, and you can leap from tall buildings wearing power armour. The minigun is just to make that set piece more bad-ass. It was also extremely useful when I did my heavy weapons and explosives (and security baton) only run. It's also possible to pick up a Fat Man and mini-nuke at level 1 (well, not with the mods in this guide installed, Simple Bounties and Commonwealth Wilderness Overhaul put some nasty critters in the way, but in a more vanilla game. Â

In previous games having a power armor was something special, sadly Bethesda forgot that and placed way too many of them in the world. Which btw is one of the many things which made the game imho worse than its predecessors.  The others already put up good reasons not to use the mod, so i only have little to add there: I remember that in Morrowind there was a way to get glass armor almost at the start of the game. But having such a good armor from the start almost completely ruined the experience. Where's the challenge when you're sort of a walking tank before the game even really begins? It is overcoming the odds that, at least for me, are a more rewarding experience. _________________________________________________  Btw. you guys and gals should take a look at Encased. It is a bit clunky but a very very good game with a Fallout 1 and 2 vibe (and better graphics).  Almost finished with my slimmed down preset for the body which will work better with 'ZeX-ZBG'. Still have to work on a uni-boob preset (hope to get that working ?) and redo the predone files for all our used armors.  The predone LoD seems to work fine. I'll have to run around more before i make a final decision about it.  The 'Ardent Sword' doesn't work out. Too long, a bad grip and the replacer isn't working as well. 1

You can still get the fatman from the robot scrapyard, simply loop somewhat to the south of it, and then head north to it, you will still trigger the deathclaw, but you can then run like hell into the little bunker like building, then use the terminal to activate the sentry bot, which will putter around for a while but eventually agro the deathclaw, and then smack the hell out of said deathclaw, I saw the sentrybot, hit it one in melee and knock about 1/4 of the deathclaws health off, then pull back and rip it apart with its miniguns, good thing is the sentry bot is not hostile to you, well not unless you attack it anyway. There's something wrong here, but anyway, there are enough weapons to play without this one for a while.   The minigun and power armor are there basically to allow you to kill the deathclaw, otherwise good luck with that, as the 10mm and pipe guns pretty much do nothing, though you could do it with a double barrel, that is assuming you have enough ammo, the game pretty much then assumes you store it away as you have no ammo for the gun, and chances are not much charge in the core for the armor. In most of my play through's that tends to be the only time I use power armor until I have to head into the glowing sea, and even then it depends on what armor and mods you are using as well as your perk set up. 1

You're not getting the Mr Gutsy in the scrapyard? Sure, he'll aggro on the deathclaw, probably. Hadn't thought of just going for the sentry bot and getting him started. Hmm, think I'll try that.

Mr gutsy? no the only working bot I find there is the sentry and only after you activate him, plenty of scrapped bots for junk, but nothing still working.
misterpipes Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 So I just spent the weekend playing though a couple of the bigger mods on my list of things to do. First, Point Lookout (well, the main 3 quests). Things learnt: first, you really have to let Desmond finish talking, because if you don't, you'll be looking for the most recent autosave to get the quest going again. Second, I might have played FO4 to much since I could navigate though the whole of Dunwich Borers dispite there being no metal walkways or stairs showing. Oh, and a couple of mods in Aylis's list clash with Point Lookouts Commonwealth locations. I have a patch on the way for anyone interested. Â Second: Nuka World Reborn. Some of the quests can get really wonky if you do parts out of order, and I think it was a little bit iffy, introducing a couple of renegade Commonwealth factions. Especially since siding with the good faction results in you siding with the evil faction for some reason. It does give you the option of excluding those factions, but you have to choose that before getting to Nuka World, but I don't know if it'll be soon as I can't be bothered to put up with Porter Gages smugness, or his stupid plan for dealing with Colter, or the complete lack of options for dealing with Colter (I can think of several better options for dealing with electrically charged power armor drawing power from a bump car grid than a stupid water pistol and then having to put up with Gage getting all smug about what a challenge that was. Sorry, ranting now. I'll stop.) On the plus side, the Colter Fix that I got pointed to in this thread (a link to a page of patches), worked wonderfully.
Aylis Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 I just found a combination that is supposed to work without having an impact on a lower-end GPU or a laptop: Natural-Lighting HD ENB (Vivid Edition) Vivid Weathers - Fallout 4 Edition (Optional) Ultra Interior Lighting  As i don't own a laptop i can't really check it out. So if you got one and test it for me i could possibly add it as an option.

misterpipes Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 The Point Lookout patch I mentioned earlier: Point Lookout Precombines Fix, done on Nexus, cause Point Lookout isn't in Aylis' list, so it's not really needed. I've been playing with Illuminated Billboards, Illuminated Building Advertisements and Radioactive Signs recently. Really like the way they bring some light and colour to Boston at night.
ShaeKest Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) @Aylis I want to first off say thank you for the incredible detail and work you've put into this guide. It's helped me immensely, and is a terrific instruction tool.  I've just finished assembling a new profile via MO2 following your steps, and the game is running so smoothly it's practically a different game altogether.  All that said, I of course come with a question. I'm wondering what's happened here that the Glock19 textures don't seem to be appearing. This screenshot was in 1st person, but the problem persists in 3rd person, as well.  Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again for all this incredible work!    Spoiler  Edited July 30, 2022 by ShaeKest 1
Aylis Posted July 30, 2022 Author Posted July 30, 2022 @ShaeKest 1. Big pics belong in spoilers.  2. This looks like an 'exploded' weapon to me. For this you have to check/modify your LO. Mine looks like this: Spoiler  1
ShaeKest Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Apologies, I’ll spoiler next time. Removed for now.  Thank you, I’ll give it a try. 1
Aylis Posted July 30, 2022 Author Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) The predone LOD mods really lessen the pop-ups/switching of distant objects (distant trees come to mind) a lot. While not perfect (on rare cases it still happens) it is an improvement and they will be added in the next update.  LoD for All - Performout Edition OR LoD for All - Average Edition OR LoD for All - Ultimate ?You have to test which version works best for you.  I'm still torn about the lighting mods for the advertisements. 'Wasteland Illumination' gives us broken and flickering lights which these mods seem to lack. So i leave it up to you if you want to use them. Thankfully they don't use scripts or an ESP so they can be safely removed if you change your mind. Â Thats one of the reasons I like them and thought to bring them to your attention, they are all safe to drop in and take out at any time. Also, if you are using any mods that change the billboards or signs, these seem compatible with them, you still get the light, but get to pick which sign textures (need to extract textures from any ba2 files for signs/billboards replacers). I've also found another one for bus stops I'm trying right now. 1

DarthNyriss Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Have a question. I'm looking at "More Varied Body Shapes and Skins -and- More Varied Creature Shapes" https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21064?tab=description  One of the file options is a CBBE version which adds various skins to the NPCs. My question is this: Does Fusion Girl apply only to the player, or to NPCs as well and if it does, would this still work?
Aylis Posted July 30, 2022 Author Posted July 30, 2022 @DarthNyriss I've tested it before and can't recommend it. Besides FG and BT are used for the NPC and mixing bodytypes causes issues (only the standard vanilla body somewhat works).

ShaeKest Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Yes, it is. I am following Aylis’ guide. The guide makes no mention of Armorsmith, and I’ve read previous discussions in the thread about avoiding it due to bloat and other reasons. Yet the AAF guide includes DD and the item manager. I am asking if this justifies using Armorsmith. Obviously the game will not run without it if I’m using Devious Devices. Edited July 30, 2022 by ShaeKest

You need the Devious Devices RC8 release, from here: Devious Devices RC8 And the no AWKCR ESP for Rogg DD Item Manager from here: Rogg DD Item Manager no AWKCR patch (although you could also clean the esp yourself) The Devious Devices RC8 is a full replacement for Devious Devices, the Rogg one is just just replace the ESP in the Rogg mod you install. You'll also need Fusion Girl conversions, there are currently two here and here, up to you which one you use (I'm using a mix of both) No need for armorsmith (hurrah!)  Edited July 31, 2022 by misterpipes 3
