Derpakiin Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 I have an overlay bug on Lydia and have been looking for a way to reset her appearance. This is not a texture memory bug, because you can see the textures, nipples and sweat textures load, but there is an overlay that is being referenced and not being loaded, causing it to have a transparent purple look on the body. Here are some of the attempts I tried but didn't work: 1. Disabled/enabled Slavetats and cleaned my save 2. Disabled/enabled NPC through console command 3. Resetai command in console 4. Cleaned the save file Is there a way to reset the NPC values to remove whatever overlay is being referenced on Lydia? The overlay probably came from a previous mod that I have removed, but I have long lost that mod and can't remember what it was.
R246 Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 You probably used RaceMenu to give her an overlay and then removed the overlays mod. Use RM to remove any overlays on her.

sshar22 Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 7 minutes ago, Grey Cloud said: Okay. So what's an overlay? An overlay is a texture (often with transparency) file that is loaded on top of the base texture file, warpaints, dirt, cumlayers, tattoos are all overlay. Check the mod you used to edit Lidya and see if you are missing a prerequisite mod or package. Cheers
donttouchmethere Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 8 minutes ago, Grey Cloud said: Okay. So what's an overlay? for example: Barefeet Realism dirt StA spanked red ass/tits race menu tattoos, painted feet/hand nails, div cosmetica if you apply those via racemenu (or if they get added by a mod) and save the preset than they will be a requirement if those overlays are not installed you get a purple overlay instead it's easy to slove, just set the race menu slot - they got applied on - back to default still I have no clue how to load an NPC with racemenu other than using EFF ?
donttouchmethere Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 after a quick research: following mods can load an NPC into Racemenu: > EFF > Alternate Actors > The Manipulator

Edit: Apparently it does, but needs a second mod to make it work. :S 11 hours ago, donttouchmethere said: after a quick research: following mods can load an NPC into Racemenu: > EFF > Alternate Actors > The Manipulator Thanks for taking a look into it, but I never used any of those mods. I did use EFF a long time ago, but that was in my early days of modding and I have stopped using it. The new feature to edit NPC never existed back then.

It seems to have helped fix the problem! Thanks for the suggestion! So apparently there was an overlay that was left over from the mod Soul Gem Oven. I had uninstalled that mod a long time ago because (no offence to the author) the mod was absolute dogshit. The scripting was so bad, it caused severe script lag and would constantly crash my game. When it was uninstalled the game would become very stable. Unfortunately despite using the in-mod uninstall and cleaning the save game files afterwards, it still left references in the save file that would point to overlays being no longer used. The overlay in question was the milk leaking overlay from the nipples when the mod was active (another reason why I removed the mod because disabling the milk leak overlay in its menu didn't work). So I brought up the Manipulator and got Lydia into the Race Menu and changed the milk-leak overlay back to the default overlay. Here's the result! Lydia has been fixed!
sshar22 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Glad the issue is resolved It is advised to use a modmanager like Mod organizer to avoid issues like this, as it keeps mods separated, and avoids any leftovers in uninstalling one. Lastly, please avoid saying things like "the mod was absolute dogshit". The mod SGO works quite fine for a lot of people, and issues most of the time come from wrong individual configurations be it on mod level game level or mod order and loading. Cheers

Cheers I actually swear by Mod Organizer and have been using it for years. Unfortunately I have to stand by my opinion that SGO is a terrible mod. I actually like the mod author as a person, but my gripe is with the mod, not the person (which is why I went out of my way to mention it). Keep in mind the mod itself had to be rebuilt 3 times during its development history and each version had its own problems to deal with. I'm sure it works for the people that can handle the un-optimized script load, but for people who are uninstalling the mod, it's a complete nightmare. The mod page itself doesn't even come with clear instructions on how to completely remove the mod from the game if you choose to uninstall it. I'm normally very forgiving to buggy mods but when it's as invasive as this one that refuses to uninstall properly despite using several savegame cleaning tools, I start to having gripes. It's been a year since I've uninstalled the mod and it's still coming back to haunt my savegames.

I use SGO III myself and although there are a few things about it that I don't like, I wouldn't slag it off. 30 minutes ago, Derpakiin said: Keep in mind the mod itself had to be rebuilt 3 times during its development history and each version had its own problems to deal with Most mods go through several versions. For someone who doesn't know what an overlay is and can't tell the difference between a texture memory error from an overlay reference error I don't think you understand what kind of junk this mod leaves in the game. It's not like I couldn't identify what the problem was, I just didn't have the tools to fix it until I posted this thread. Thankfully I got what I needed. SGO introduces problems that aren't enough to nuke saves, they are for the most part fixable, but it instead introduces a large number of problems to annoy the hell out of me. Death by a thousand cuts if you ask me. Mind you, if you were around long enough you certainly would have seen mods like Crimson Tide and Wars in Skyrim, which were infamous for completely nuking saves and nobody is defending those mods.

I've been around for three years and never heard of either mod. The only thing that ever wrecks my saves is me. I never blame anything else and I don't give a flying fuck if the save goes west, I just start another game or rollback.

Haven't you heard? Mod Organizer can cure cancer, balance your checkbook and allows you to breath unassisted in the vacuum of space! I switched to Standalone EFF Cosmetics Menu instead of the Manipulator 'cause all I wanted was the ability to use racemenu on NPCs and not everything else Manipulator does.
