Rusty Core Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 This is (probably) your typical user submitted framerate problem. For awhile now I seem to have been running on 15-25 fps after the addition of a few different ENBs. Funny thing is I honestly thought the fps was running fine, until I checked it and saw it was extremely low. I don't usually check the fps rate which is kind of stupid of me. So like most players with this issue id like some suggestions on what to do and what to tweak in the INI files and whatnot so I can at least hit 50-60 fps. I have tried multiple other options, but most of those were for slightly different graphic cards/processors and therefore my luck ran out. This isn't a problem with storage or anything cuz when I turn the enb effects off ingame, everything is magically 58-60 fps. As for the information you are bound to ask for: Running on Windows 10 With NVIDIA GeForce 920MX processor With 8gb of RAM And currently using the Seasons Of Skyrim ENB 0.292. Sidenote: I haven't posted this anywhere else cuz as far as ik, Nexus' skyrim forums seem to be devoid of helpful people, and loverslab is the only one ive posted in that actually seems to help. QUICK EDIT: I also need help figuring out why the damned "SKSE MEMORY PATCH" warning won't go away after everythings already been set the way they recommended to be
xwhiteninjax Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 FPS are overrated... and playing skyrim at 60 FPS in- and outdoor is technical impossible with ENB and the skyrim-engine... so you have to do some adjustments to your wishlist... first, FPS outdoor around 35 or more is usually a smooth running skyrim with an ENB (meaning, there should be less CTD, scriptlags and other game-disturbing effects), indoor most ENB are around 50 - 60 FPS... so you will find out, that some special tunings inside the ENB-settings will have more or less impact on the FPS-ratings... play with grass-settings... set them with differences to "iMinGrassSize=xxx" inside your skyrim.ini (use 10-step-settings) and you will see, how this single setting has a hugh impact on your FPS-rate (low heavy impact, high less impact), fading distances will stress your card and so on... go with an ENB like Caffeine, Tetrachromatic, Somber, Rudy and Nova to see, how very different ENB's are fitting (or not) your modded skyrim.... look at the enb-settings and their values and then change your favourite ENB ingame-style to finetune some of them to your liking.... you will very fast find out, which settings have the most impact, so your FPS-ratings are growing... or you will find a fitting preset with one of the mentioned above (they have good mod-sites on nexus with many hints and/or some different settings or wheather-mods, lightning and so on), and most of the hints are for other ENB-presets, too, just look at the dependencies (wheather-mods, lightning to have their special lookout) and change it accordingly.... look for modern presets, since the enb-series above 0.3x are different ones (and better) as the elder ones, so the ENB-preset-creators have done most of your work out of the box and if you found your favourite ENB don't forget your installed mods.... mods with heavy spawning, checking surroundings for actions and so on have a huge impact on FPS, too ... so if you using a mod manager deactivate them and check your fps-ratings before and after activating them again.... every skyrim is a personal modded one... with focus on graphic and action.... more action is usually a skyrim with less epic landscape... .and vice versa (just to mention two groups with heavy impact on FPS)... but with a little tuning you will find your personal preferences to play with a smooth acting skyrim.... have fun

For me it seems that it is a setting in the ENB that makes your game run slow..I don't use ENB ,so i don't know that much about it. I think that your ENB also alter the games memory usage ,that would mean that you have 2 different ,trying to do the same thing at the same time ,and one will loose I only use the SKSE MEM PATCH ..have no problems even with a ton of anims and 75 active plugins/mods. Hope this may help a little bit.

It was definitely a recommendation id seen elsewhere tho. As for the Mem Patch, I just ran skyrim again, ignoring the message thinking maybe it was just bugged, and the message was just a glitch considering i had just set up the CrashFIxPlugin.ini thing and it was failing to go away. Following an additional 10 or so minutes, a crash came out of nowhere like a slap in the face So that's DEFINITELY something I want fixed right away.

I literally went to nexus, selected sort by endorsments, and looked at those instead of any recent ones. However some ENBs are still being managed so they work with newer computer setups like my own. So that's why I held out hope there. Ive seen the Rudy ENB while scrolling before, nut never checked it out. I guess that would be worth a try. Every ENB ive used so far has used a 0.2_ _ kind of ENB version. I haven't used any with .03. I also haven't run into any crashes for the most part (excepting the case I just mentioned to Thunder1964 which im pretty sure is a result of all the tampering ive done trying to get higher framerate)
Rusty Core Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 I guess I should add the fact that I have a number just shy of 255 in regards to mod amount and limit. Out of all of those tho the only graphical improvement and even weather mods I have are Climates of tamriel, Skyrim Flora Overhaul v2.5b, Revamped exterior fog, supreme storms, True Storms, Ultimate HD fire effects, and a terrain LOD redux mod the enb does the rest
xwhiteninjax Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 most ENB-presets will work with the newest enb-series, too... but since the newer ones have better options (or more) this is the way to go (imho)... it is easier to look at newer presets (since they are adjusted to the new options, mostly).... somber ENB is an old ENB, but with very special effects (so you see some different enb-settings) and sadly, somber has a hugh impact on fps.... other presets I had mentioned have less impact and other visual effects.... Rudy is a good tweak for having less impact on fps and generating a good looking skyrim... for me Nova is like 10 fps better and is fitting with my mods, too.... just create your "test-scenario" to see, how your skyrim is reacting.... for example.... go to Helgen, Escape-tunnel.... start there and run to Riverwood... .look at the fps-ratings.... see, if your skyrim has mini-freezing or other unwanted stuff.... and run back (it will have different fps-ratings)... write the ratings down.... and compare this with other enb-settings/presets... you will see, how this testing is more fitting to your skyrim as any other messures.... or find other heavy triggered locations.... for example.... standing in Riverwood.... looking in the direction of the bridge will have heavy impact on fps.... looking at the direction of Helgen there will be better fps (like 20 better) at the same location... counting fps and standing still have better results as running.... flying is the fastest way to move... and if you are able to fly over 10 min real-time without any CTD or strange graphic-effects you have a most stable skyrim and fun to play with (but be aware... don't start your flying inside one of the capital-cities, they are different cell/worlds and joining/passing these cells with flying has always strange impacts) overflying is mostly without any hussle.... p.s.: I have more than 855 mods (some merged, so from this number lastly around 180 are "active")... running around 40 fps outdoor and around 55 fps indoor... but I have also a very good box p.s.: skyrim flora overhaul... just test the one without grass... and install a special grass-mod to your liking after sfo.... and test the grass-settings as mentioned above... you will have better results

Or does it work by installing as many mods as youd like but only activating enough that it doesn't go beyond 255? I use mod organizer, and I remember reading somewhere that 255 was the so called limit or something. I think Im gonna give Rudy a try if I cant resolve this in anyway. Outdoors with any enb so far has been 15-25 while indoors was naturally higher btw
xwhiteninjax Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 there is a technical limit of 255 mods "active"... with or without any mod-manager (hardcoded inside skyrim-engine)... but tools like "merge plugins" (standalone) are able to merge different mods, so the merged-one is only counting as one)... some mods are without any .esp, .esm (just texture/meshes-changings, so they have impact of the viewing, but not counting for the limit).... and so on... merging armor-mods is usually without any problems.... merging followers from one author will do, too.... merging mods with the same dependencies will go easy (mostly), too... just be carefull with the loadorder, if you do this (the log-output from merge-plugins is far more detailed as LOOT, so look at it before actually merging your mods and change the loadorder, if some of your mods are missing or have failure in the load-order mentioned)... generally it would be best to look at a stable skyrim first (bug fixes), then going for landscape, locationchanges.... after this it depends on your favourite playstyle (questing-mods, armor, weapons, npc-enhancing-mods.... and last but not least follower and companions... ENB after your tuning of landscape (so the fps-impact is not caused of other spawning-mods)

Pauduan Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 If you have exactly 60fps with ENB off, with ENB at FHD resolution you will be around 35-40fps with the lightest possible ENBs. If you run uncapped and know what kind of FPS you get uncapped, you will lose between 20 and 30fps with ENB on. For portables I would recommend not using ENBs at all and instead run Reshade or SweetFX. You can also optimise the graphics a bit to get a few more fps out of the system. Tricks include reducing shadow quality to Medium, going down one notch in resolution, and optimising textures using Ordenador or similar. Older ENBs tend to be much more performance friendly on old hardware. For potato PCs I recommend Truevision with 0.113 dll, which drop around 15fps at FHD resolutions. For 720p or 900p gameplay your starting fps will be higher, so you can possibly meet your 60fps target. For Skyrim 40fps outdoors is sufficient for smooth gameplay. What's more important is frametime, which for weak PCs running ENBs can be a real problem. If you don't have stutter then you should be grateful. Simply drop your shadows to medium, reduce your texture sizes to 1k (normal maps for skin should still be 2k and should not be run through an optimiser) and if that doesn't do it then scale the resolution down to 900p or 720p.

So resolution wise, I have my computer hooked up to my TV via HDMI cable. Fullscreen works very well with that kind of connection between the two devices. Whether or not it makes a real difference, idk, but it seems to me that mostly whatever I do on the computer will affect what I see onscreen as well. Rarely do I get an issue with resolutions or the TV receiving the feed through the cable. in f fact as im typing this im looking at the TV screen. At heart im a console gamer, so I prefer my PC games to be full screen if my specs and whatnot can afford the push. In regards to outdoor fps, I agree with the estimated 40 fps. 30-40 or even 40/45-50 fps would be good enough for me. Rn, only indoor spaces have that kind of framerate. And also I run on a higher hd rez than 720p or 900p. im pretty sure I run it on 1080p or higher, fullscreen. which im guessing makes 60fps a harder-to-achive framerate

My game is stable, looks good, performs to my standards and does what I want. Maybe I'm just not cool enough to have 60 fps. And it's 255 plug-ins, not mods.
Pauduan Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 On a TV 25fps is perfectly acceptable, even 20 will not be too bad. The viewing distance is usually larger than a monitor and the individual pixel response times are slower, which adds a bit of motion blur, masking micro-stutter that is clearly visible in monitors. 40fps indoor seems low and I would really look at some optimising to get it up to about 55-60. Your outdoor framerate should ideally be around 40, else you'll face problems during stressed events e.g Civil War. I really would not use ENB on a portable at all. It stresses the shaders quite a bit and laptops not specifically designed for high heat loads will eventually fail. 920MX is not really a gaming GPU at all. IDK if it was answered but you should add -forcesteamloader in the shortcut for the game to get rid of the SKSE memory warning.

Well, compared to what I see without ENB on, I thought that was just normal for the framerate to be that way, given an enbs graphical enhancements. I never said liked it. By "running fine" I meant running the way it probably would for most enbs. When I finally bothered to open up enblocal ingame, I saw the difference between it being on and off, and wondered if there was some way to bring the fps up. Like, if there's some way to improve the framerate to make it even better, then hell yeah im gonna look for a way if possible. with 17-20 fps or 20-25fps, I do gain stutter sometimes when I look around before everything loads in fully. I also gain slightly noticeable stutter while sprinting

And I already tried bethini thanx to a recommendation from someone on one of my past topics. it didn't help at all from what I observed. I did notice the INI files were mor organized but that's about it. And when I turn UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true, I lose the ability to configure the enb ingame. With Seasons and the other enb I used before, the author advised NOT to configure it ingame as he had already made presets. Well. in my mind, after got tired of heeding that warning, and realizing it wouldnt break anything if I tampered with settings anyway, I tried to tweak just a tiny little to my liking. point being, with that setting on, I cant use the ingame GUI for the enb, and I also notice that enb basically turns off when that is on, so suddenly im fooled into thinking the 50-60 fps im getting is actually working through the enb and not the vanilla graphics when its the other way around

Like I said, all the tv monitor seems to do is mimick what happens on the computer screen, just on a larger scale. unplugged, the game still runs the same way on the computer by itself. 40-45 fps for outdoor wouldn't be too bad. anything above my current outdoor fps is fine with me
