I was in the middle of a reply to this https://www.loverslab.com/topic/97157-eotw-mage-robes-of-skyrim/ before I got cut off..

Anyway:

I have to ask, why did you punish everyone else for what a couple of assholes did? That doesn't make any sense.

I've had some of my content uploaded elsewhere without permission too, and do you know what I did? I shrugged. I realized "it's the internet, people are gonna do whatever the hell they want", I didn't get mad and then turn around and make it impossible for everyone else (who didn't even do anything) to get enjoyment out of my work. I mean seriously, what does that solve?

It annoys me to no end when I'm looking for a mod, I find pictures of one that catches my interest, I really like what I see.. and then I find out I can't even get access to it because some assholes pissed off the mod author. It doesn't accomplish anything, the people who stole the content in the first place (clearly) don't give a rat's ass, and now anyone else who really wants the mod has to ask around for it.

Well without trying to take sides here, what you would do is different to what someone else would do. If it's their property and they don't want it given out, regardless of your opinion on the matter, you should respect that. Sometimes there's a deeper story that requires more context than what you can see from the surface.

I've had professional work stolen, and it really sucks. I've even had some popular name person steal some distinct lines from an old fanfic of mine to pad her fanfic right on Nexus. So I don't post fanfic anymore and took down that fic so she can't come around and scoop up more of my work for her kudos on Nexus. And she is a "trusted" person on Nexus with whom modders freely share their private stuff. Uh huh.

But the internet is a thing. Post something and it's likely to end up somewhere else these days. So I decide whether or not if it matter to me if that happens before I upload stuff. Or if I can tolerate some of the assholes, and not punish the rest.

Sometimes you have to take down something, it happens. As they say, the authors have every right to do so, but it is a shame how some things disappear that would be appreciated by others who come along later.

Yeah, hate that kind of thing. Thankfully often sooner or later someone makes similar mod. Not exactly sure what that mod did, but other great mods for mage robes would be Opulent Outfits, or some of Lind's retextures.

Lind's is the best. Opulent Outfits is gorgeous for bolder colors and designs, if you're tired of the more subdued and dirty robes.

I think you have to respect the authors right to do what they want with their work, regardless of why. A lot of people are really srs about that stuff, and some of those people are really tallented. If you take away their rights, they will stop sharing their work altogether. Personally, idc that much. I would be annoyed if you claimed my stuff as your own, but then I would just make something else. Like you said

They are giving you benefit of their time and skill for free.

Sorry, but you don't get to have a say in the terms they choose to share it under - so if they decide they no longer want their work freely shared (for whatever reason), I would hope you can respect that.

There is a lot of people who seem to have some form of entitlement issues and think they have a right to all the mods ever, and that they must be perfectly constructed and bug free. This isn't the case - they are amateur works presented for people to enjoy in whatever condition the authors choose to share them. That's it. No warranty given or implied.

Take what you are offered, be thankful, and enjoy it - or not. You are under no obligation. But nor are the authors - and I easily believe that if all they get in return for their hard work is bitching or people complaining they didn't work hard enough, well...don't be surprised to discover they don't feel the need to let people play with their toys any longer.

I would react in the same way, if something is stolen from me.
everything remove, prohibit reupload and not publish anything new!
as long as there is no justice in the modding scene and thieves brazenly smile, and not be punished for copyright infringement, have these mod authors my full approval.:classic_wink:

would you still shrug with your shoulders, if a thief with your hard work several 10000 dollars (Euros) earned?

Yeah, I have stuff I won't even upload. I won't even post screenshots of my private stuff in a popular place if I don't want questions.

It's not like how the Morrowind community was. Back then, everyone kept an eye out for asset thieves and illicit re-uploaders.

Yeah I understand this kind of reaction, the same, there are many things I do that I will not share and I am more and more reluctant to share my usual stuff.
There are a lot of rats here, when we see one, believe it hides colonies of these critters. The best way to stop seeing them is to stop feeding them. It dries the scene always a little more but it is a consequence. We kill snakes in the egg.
Anyway we are already in a situation of 1 or 2% creators VS more 90% of leech ...

and weird is, that some banished leeches, again and again find a possibility to come here to steal further.
I have personally uncovered a very vicious leech and He was banished again, not long and he will reappear.

If they are banned, nothing prevents them from acting outside LL and it is even more profitable for them, They take rats with them and make little ones ..
Unless you have eyelids and never look outside LL ..
I am at war with some, the best way I have is to get off their reputation, but to stop them from continuing you have to cut the source. They do not have talents and too dumb to gain skills, the day they do not have more content they will not be able to do anything anymore..
So I am for the removal of mods if the authors notice unfair things ..

It's a mod authors right if they want to remove a mod and just because there are screenshots of something doesn't mean the uploader of those screenshots has to give you shit. Each mod author is different on how they will do something some will leave stuff up some will remove them and some will just straight up leave the modding scene and go somewhere else that's less toxic. If a modder decides to remove their stuff then you must respect their decision as it's their stuff not yours.

Making a thread and ranting about it does nothing but it does show everyone what type of person you are.
