Antioch666 Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Hello, At this moment I am downloading the high resolution texture pack, and was wondering if we could make a thread dedicated to weed out, what non-adult texture mods are made obsolete or close to; by this pack. Seeing as to that they (the texture mods) would only eat up space... and who wouldn't want to strike a few off of their immense mod list (got 400 myself; many of them smaller ones like 4k computer terminals)? I will try to deactivate what I have on my list when it has downloaded; but I was hoping that people would join in with their feedback, if any. When/if I find anything I will post it here. I guess it is logical to assume that the pack will outmatch the Texture Optimization Project (which requires a lot of space) or am I wrong? Thank you, Anti
gregathit Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Maybe, maybe not. Typically beth assets aren't optimized worth a crap. Time and modders will tell the tale soon enough.
Zor2k13 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I have seen many comparisons and there doesn't appear to be much difference to me. I don't run 4k display and maybe that is what this pack is really for to keep things from looking stretched or fuzzy maybe? I think majority of people playing this game are running at 1080p anyway so it seem like whole lot of nuffin taking up 58gb of space. Last thing anyone wants to do is increase loading times downtown going in and out of interior cells. Too bad this game is so cpu intensive it really sucks going downtown for anything.
Nergui Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Min specs for HD pack say gtx1080. I guess I'll need to upgrade my gtx980. Nah, I don't need HD textures.
nIn nIn nIn Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 My GTX780Ti is certainly not adequate anymore, instant black face bug on the existing game, and also on a new game with the added bonus of purple body with missing hands just for added measure. Uninstalling the HD dlc and loading a save from before it was install fixed the issue. Definitely need a 8GB card now.
Benmc20 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Maybe, maybe not. Typically beth assets aren't optimized worth a crap. Time and modders will tell the tale soon enough. This is exactly what I think. 60 GB for this, not really better than vanilla as far as I can see with the screens I've seen. I'll wait for better texture packs from talented modders.
Zor2k13 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 This makes me think someone with a lot of time and photoshop could just upscale the vanilla textures and run a sharpen filter a few times and get the same result. Why load all that extra info into vram?

I haven't personally installed this, but from what I've seen and read I think this pack was obsolete on day one relative to the already available community texture packs - both from a performance and quality perspective. Could be wrong but I doubt it, knowing Bethesda's history.
PsychoMachina Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Min specs for HD pack say gtx1080. I guess I'll need to upgrade my gtx980. Nah, I don't need HD textures. I was having second thoughts considering I have FO4 installed on my laptop running a GTX 860M, but curiosity got the best of me and dl anyway. So far, other than an fps hit, the game runs decently. Mind you, some of that fps drop is from ENB.
Benmc20 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Haven't tested it for now, but this one seems far more better than the official one : http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3747/?
Bruce Banner Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Is it just me or is the Nexus unreachable at the moment ? When sites are taken down for maintenance you usually get an error whereas it just seems to be loading forever and getting nowhere
ousnius Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 In case anyone gets the black head bug with the HD DLC, here are the fixes. The game, since patch 1.9.4, forces the head specular maps to be 1024x1024 instead of the previous 512x512 resolution. But this only happens when the game can see that you have " DLCUltraHighResolution " enabled as a plugin. So, there are exactly two fixes: 1.) Rename the BA2/ESM of the HD DLC to anything else, re-enable it, fixed. This disables the hardcoded change to 1024x1024. 2.) Resave all specular maps of the LooksMenu Compendium or any other mod ever that edits the head or makeup textures to be 1024x1024 instead of 512x512, but only for users of the HD DLC.
lastbytescout Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 This makes me think someone with a lot of time and photoshop could just upscale the vanilla textures and run a sharpen filter a few times and get the same result. Actually it's the other way around. Most vanilla textures are already of insane size compared combined with a low resolution, so downsizing and sharpening should work better. Vivid Fallout - Landscapes went that way, which helped quite a lot for either perfomance and looks back when I last played FO4 in spring '16 (patch 1.4 killed my saves, thx Beth). My GTX780Ti is certainly not adequate anymore, instant black face bug on the existing game, and also on a new game with the added bonus of purple body with missing hands just for added measure. Uninstalling the HD dlc and loading a save from before it was install fixed the issue. Definitely need a 8GB card now. Upgrading the videocard alone may not be enough sadly. I upgraded yesterday, now the 6700k is the only thing not meeting the miniumum recommendations. The game is playable, but it does not feel fluid/smooth and terribly tears without Vsync @ 1440p/60Hz. The HD pack looks a tiny bit sharper and more detailed, but it's nothing you couldn't already achieve with a combination of "Vivid Landscapes","Texture optimization Project" and a third 2k pack I can't remember the name of, for a fraction of the size and performance hit.
Bruce Banner Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Would someone do me a favour please and check whether Nexus is down or not because it just seems to not load , no error screen , no nothing . So I just hope I havent been given some domain ban or something without me knowing . If that site goes down for maintenance it usually says so . If others find it down Im ok but if it just seems to be me then Im wondering if I have DNS issues or something like that . Ive looked on Isitdown and that says its up so I dont know if Ive been banned or my settings are buggered or what ?
Bruce Banner Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Nexus works here, the site and the downloads. Thanks for letting me know . That doesnt sound good then EDIT . Just tried flushing my DNS settings and thats done nothing so Im just kinda puzzled to be honest . Anyhow I better stop hijacking the author's thread . Sorry for that Antioch666

Lexi SubZero Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 So...it's 58 Gigs of unoptimized crap. Well imagine my shock. GG Bethesda.. :D
Bruce Banner Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I got it sorted by clearing all the caches etc , unplugging the router and the above stuff I mentioned . Don't know which one did the trick as it was a weird issue that just seemed to affect me accessing Nexus , but it seems ok now . Thanks for your help guys and thanks for the link Reg
quin666 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Downloading texture pack ten hour ago until common sense kick in. You know how much stuff you do with 50GB? Games you can add to drive? Do same thing with Nexus texture packs under 10GB or less. Not worth trouble black face bug, less fps, game running like dog shit in certain areas and massive 50GB loss.
Antioch666 Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 Oh well, somehow my interest for modding just plummeted violently x) I think I will wait a year maybe and check back and see what has happened. Might go VR instead of this. Just deleted my modded Fallout 4, Skyrim SE and XCOM2 in one go. A lot of installing and digging goes into modding. Sifting through all the unstable ones and the constant updates just takes the fun out of it, much of the time. I couldn't see any differences using the High Def Tex Pack -.- Maybe the details just elude me lol Back to MGS5 :-D
Antioch666 Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 Hmmm the HD DLC is not worth it at all in my opinion. Yes, it looks awesome, but FPS is absolutely horrendous in downtown Boston. With the Grafix mod its almost as good, but with an enormous difference gameplay-wise. File size - HD DLC (50Gb) vs Grafix + all DLCs 6Gb... some difference I would say -.-
