Molevalence Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Being a gamer for almost 30 years everyone here once in a blue moon has come across a game where they cannot put it down. They binge and binge and honestly don't care about anything but the game. To me this has become a rarity these days but why not share them? Bring those nostalgic warm fuzzies back. Here's what you do: In your entire gaming career you pick the games from the earliest you can remember up to today which you would consider you have done stated above or your "Holy Grail" games. It can be as many or as little as you want. I would like to see the variety and stories from everyone. It can be as long or as brief as you want them to be. I will get it started. 1989 - Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse. You heard me right. I still own the game today and I still cannot beat this son of a bitch. I was 3 when I first played this game and now 26 years later the fight continues. Call this one a love hate relationship. 1998 - Final Fantasy 8 and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I put these 2 together because I got both of these games on my birthday of that year and this was probably the biggest binge I ever did. I assume everyone knows these games and has either played them or seen enough of them on the internet to understand how great these classics are so I'll let that speak for itself. I will say this though: In FF8 when you go out to look for the white SeeD ship it literally took me 3 months to find it. I had no internet at the time. Talk about binge when I found it. 2004 - World of Warcraft. Yeah, yeah throw the hate. Been playing this game for 10 years and call it what you want. During this time this was the first MMO I ever played because around that time I purchased my very first computer and still using a 56k modem walked through the gates of Stormwind when the music started me and my brothers jaw dropped. *Nerdgasm* 2009 - Brutal Legend You take 2 of my favorite things: heavy metal and video games. Put them together and what do you get? A masterpiece. Played this game, beat it, played it again, beat it, then played it again and got 100% completion. This is my "Holy Grail" game. Also Jennifer Hale as Ophelia, sexiest voice out there. 2011 - Skyrim Um... yeah. 2500 hours and climbing. Need I say more?. I think everyone who played this for the first time got the same goosebumps when they seen the opening. You know what I'm talking about.
BruceWayne Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I can't remember the exact dates. I also started very young in the 90's, but I don't particular remember any outstanding NES or Gameboy games for that era. I got my first (own) PC around 96, so I consider that as my starting point. Command&Conquer, Anstoss (German non-EA predecessor of the now EA-owned Football Manager), Fallout 2 (never played FO1 until a couple of years ago), Jagged Alliance 1+2, KOTOR, the last Pro Evolution Soccer before it had the year in the title (5 or 6, still the best imo), Vampire: Bloodlines, Oblivion and Fallout: New Vegas. I probably forgot a couple, but these are at the top of my list.
spoonsinger Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Knight Lore - 1984, (Just a totally off the wall concept at that point) Catacomb Abyss - 1992, (ish), Made lunch times at work bearable Total Annihilation - 1997 - Still playing variations of this, so yep probably consequential. Half Life - 1998 - Well, just well. Morrowind - 2002 - Yep! Skyrim, (modded) - it has HDT bounce, and you can mod it really quite extensively, (and tinker easily with those mods if you don't like certain aspects). (and yes there are a feck load of games I've played which should have mention. But at this point in time I just thought of those off the top of my head. A bit like looking in a mirror and removing one piece of clothing - which is a bit bad if all you are just wearing is a tee shirt.).
Guest Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 1986 - Aztec Challenge - C64 1987 - The Last Ninja - C64 1988 - Archon - C64 1989-1991 - SEUK (that was a "game construction kit" for C64) 1990 - Neuromancer - C64 1992 - Dungeon Master - C64 1992 - Shadow of the Beast - Amiga 1994 - Maniac Mansion - Amiga 1997 - Monkey Island - Amiga 2004ish - Dungeon Siege - PC 2004-2012 - All versions of Dungeon Siege - PC 2013 - Skyrim - PC 2015 - Fallout 4/XCOM 2 - PC Edit: I forgot one. About 1998 - Spaceward Ho! - Macintosh LE2.
abeman Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 From nes: river city ransom was fun and my friend had this football game with similar graphics and 4-controller setup. Megamans, r.c. pro-am 1 and 2 were excelent I never had snes but i remember playing secret of mana and super punchout alot, and some better version of bomberman had alot of games with c64 but nothing stands out that i can remember PC-gaming started with dune2 and x-wing, first command&conquer was a big thing also. Oh and xcom:terror from deep was great but so damn scary, we played pc games at my friends dads workplace in the evenings and i was allways scared shitless when coming home after it got dark outside. Jagged alliance, diablo, mechwarriors, sim city, transport tycoon deluxe, ugh no wonder why i had such low motivation for school Last "big" game was Battlefield 2
Ernest Lemmingway Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 1987 - Phantasy StarThis is the game that got me into RPGs. Compared to its sequel a year later (which I couldn't play for another four years, lacking a Genesis until then) it's not at all very organized or gives you very clear directions on what to do next. But then few RPGs did in those days. PS2 and PS4 were likewise excellent games but PS3 just didn't feel like a PS game and it's still notorious for that distinction There's also Ys: The Vanished Omens that turned me into a lifetime fan of the series. I didn't get a chance to play the second game until the Wii Virtual Console, but it was worth it. Interestingly the TGCD port on the Wii was two different games merged into one game. The music of the latter version is still something I can't get enough of. Check it out here. 1991 - Shining ForceA tactical RPG with an interesting story (check it out for yourselves). The sequels (SF CD, 2, and the first chapter of 3--the other two chapters were never ported to America) remain a favorite series. The other Shining Games (Shining in the Darkness, Shining Wisdom, and Shining the Holy Ark) were more traditional in style but tie into the overarching world and are fun in and of themselves. 1993 - Ys: Wanderers from YsBeing familiar with the first game I tried this out as a rental and rather liked it. It's a bit short but it was fun. 1994 - LandstalkerAn isometric view RPG on the Genesis, this is still my all-time favorite. Its spiritual sequel, Alundra, was released on the PSX and ranks up there with it as one of the most addictive games I've played. Simply because there's so much in both to find that isn't essential to finish the game. Both are also different from many RPGs in that experience level isn't used but a system of Life Stock/Life Vessels and, obviously, gear, determines how powerful your attack and defenses are. 1995-6 - LUNAR: SS and EBI've played both LUNAR games on the Sega CD and still have them in my closet. The "Complete" remakes for the PSX were great, but the originals hold a distinction to me. This was before MPEG compression so full-motion videos, even cartoons, took up a lot of storage space. This was also a time when anime' was not particularly popular in America so we otaku of the time were lucky to get anything. 1997 - Fallout'Nuff said. Same with FO2 and Tactics. FO3 and NV were okay (the latter was better) but FO4 has not turned out well in my eyes. The lackluster plot, dull NPCs, underdeveloped content, and the fact that certain keybindings are locked on the PC have really hurt my opinion of BGS. Enough that I'm not even going to buy the next TES game until it and any DLC is bundled for a fraction of the release price. 1997 - Final Fantasy VIIDo I need to say more? 1998 - Silent HillFor once a non-RPG, but one that I absolutely adore. Two and three were excellent, but later sequels lost some of the original charm. I've even incorporated the stories into fanfics at the Cafe de Nuit in the Fan Fiction Section, the Gothic Journals. 1998 - Resident Evil 2 I actually played this before the first game, but since then I've fallen in love with the series. So much so that it's become a central part of the same fan fiction mentioned above. This inspired me to study virology and epidemiology to better present the story. It was only author's research but it impressed upon me the value of such. 2003 - Morrowind If you don't understand this one, I can't help you. This was my first real experience with modded gaming and the fact that it dared to be different from other series was refreshing. Since then Bethesda has gone downhill in terms of originality and quality of overall work. 2004 - World of Warcraft I was one of the original players and I loved it. There were times it was frustrating as hell, but up until Cataclysm it was a fun little game. I especially loved the Old Gods (C'Thun and Yogg-Saron; I'm a fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos) and their raids. I haven't played in over six years and from what I've heard it's gotten so streamlined and simplified it's not even recognizable. 2011 - Skyrim This is still one I enjoy playing, and thanks to Lovers Lab I've nearly quadrupled my play time. Howard and Hines may not like adult mods, but sex is an important part of real life and plays heavily into everything humans do. Plus the chance to live out some fantasies where no one gets hurt is a major plus.
NickNozownik Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 1. Half Life multiplayer and Diablo 2 First PC games I've ever played in internet cafe before getting my own PC. I still play them from time to time, but this time they're more or less modded. 2. Morrowind First big RPG on PC I've ever played so it was quite mind blowing. I didn't know how to play it properly and didn't understand what everyone is talking about, I was really young back then and English isn't my first language. I mindlessly punched the first guard to get his armour. It didn't end very well. Then I started to explore the wilderness with my starting gear as a barbarian/warrior class, got violently murdered multiple times, somehow ended up in Balmora, punched the Hlaalu guard because I wanted to have his armour aaaaand it totally worked, I totally didn't get killed and my decision wasn't absolutely retarded. Then I finally took English dictionary from the shelf (didn't have access to the internet back then) and figured out the basics. First encounter with Ascended Sleeper in the Red Mountain region was quite terrifying. I'm still playing it, this time heavily modded, and having tons of fun. 3. Postal 2 Physics, free to roam, physics, NPCs interacting with each other and physics. I've spent hours on kicking bodies, heads and pissing on people. 4. Oblivion Finally a new TES game. Completely ignored the MQ and went exploring. It wasn't as good as Godtierwind, but I still had a blast with it. Then I got my own internet connection and started to mod it. Much better. 5. M&B Warband, both vanilla and modded Still playing it, still having lots of things to do and new ideas for characters. There are many massive overhauls so it doesn't get old. 6. Dark Souls Playing it since it was released on PC and still didn't get boring. That's it. I never had any consoles except for Atari, this big black box, but it wasn't that great. I never played oldschool games such as Mario, Sonic or first Doom. I'll get a PS3 one day just to play Demon's Souls.

Chrilli Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Here are some games I really enjoyed playing Champions of Norath -> A really great RPG and even better when playing with friends Diablo 2 World of Warcraft -> Started in TBC, came back in Cata, made a break came back again ... and so on^^ Continuing this routine till now (Legion Hype *-*) Sims 2 - 4 Mount&Blade Warband -> CRPG Mod, the normal game mode bored me quite fast The Witcher 2 Diablo 3 The Witcher 3 League of Legends ...and many more to come ^-^...
RealityPixels Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Although I've played in earlier platforms, the PC-MSDOS was the first I played regularly, mostly RPG, Strategy and Graphical Adventures. When the RPGS became crappier I switched to console and JRPGS. And after a long time back to gaming at PC. So, this is the list of the games I REALLY enjoyed the most: 1978 - Space Invaders (Arcade): My father had an original arcade at home, so I played it a lot as a kid.1989 - Dark Heart of Uukrul (PC): One of the first RPG I've had played and one of the best also.1990 - Monkey Island (PC VGA version)1990 - Super Pang (Arcade)1991 - Street Fighter 2 (Arcade and the Korean hacked PC version)1992 - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (PC VGA version)1993 - Star Wars: X-Wing (PC)1993 - Warlords II (PC)1997 - Final Fantasy VII (PSX)1998 - Metal Gear Solid (PSX)1999 - Grandia (PSX)2000 - Final Fantasy IX (PSX)2001 - Final Fantasy X (PS2)2007 - Assassins Creed (XBOX 360)2009 - Assassins Creed II (XBOX 360)2010 - Assassins Creed Brotherhood (XBOX 360)2011 - Assassins Creed Revelations (XBOX 360)2011 - Skyrim (PC)
lordcaptaintristan Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Dont remember the years, but had several games over a few years. Some Sega games i dont remember the names of, but a few i remember from that period: Stargate, Altered beast, some kind of bird-view gladiator game with up to 4 players. Chips challenge, Settlers 2, Firo & Klawd. A few years later came Baldurs gate 2, Smash TV!, and Bahamut's lagoon. Games like FF7 and newere were past the golden age, only game i could add would be Gauntlets Legends on the N64
Bindair Dundat Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 The past 12 or 15 years in no particular order. I haven't been a gamer before that. Still am sort of a halfbreed. Commandos 1 and 2 - 1 was probably one of the first games I have ever played. I liked 2 more. Dungeon Keeper 2 - Still love it. Nobody can not love this game. Warcraft 3: TFT - I played it numerous times. Spent ages tinkering in the World Editor. Years later I can still say any of the conversations by heart. Shame to see Blizz ruining these great characters in WoW "lore". Diablo 2 - I still haven't encountered a game that did Necromancer as good as D2. And it was Blizz storytelling at its finest. Hated D3. Heroes of M&M V - I sucked at it. Big time. And it still kept me playing. It was a perfect love-hate relationship. Others in the series sucked. Overlord: Raising Hell - Love it. I can literally play it any time. Did over 12 runs already. My Holy Grail. Shame to see the series dying. Dragon Age: Origin - Funny is, at first I hated it for making me lose a village. Then years later I fell in love with it. Still the best Dragon Age out there. Witcher 1 - I played it. Then played again for the second ending. Then for the third. Then years later with a bunch of mods. Witcher 2 - Same as the first, with better graphics and combat. I did a total of 4 playthroughs and it never gets old. Funny is, I didn't like the Witcher 3. Darksiders 2 - I love the setting. Played it, then played the Deathinitive Edition to 100% completion later. Trine 1 and 2 - I love them. I refuse to try the 3rd, because I don't want it to ruin my image of the series. Mass Effect 3 - I played it 2 times. It definitely has its moments. Can't hate it. And believe me, for that ending, I really want to. League of Legends - I get back to LoL when I'm on my crappy notebook for longer periods of time. And it is always LoL. Tried others, but nope. Skyrim - Duh. But I don't even think of it as a game anymore. It transcended the 'game' word a long time ago. At least mine did.
Gagoloth Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I have to many to name so ill just name off a couple that kept me tied to my chair for days. In no real order. Morrowind (i seriously believe that was one of the greatest games ever made. Oblivion (This game.... I don't think iv put more time into any other game then this one. It was a little bit easier then morrowind but this game had a feeling of its own. I must have put over 2500 hours into modding and playing this game. I spent MONTHS completing everything the game had to offer not once but at least three times. Skyrim (i still play this. ALLOT. Its a great game but compared to oblivion and morrowind it pails in comparison) Fallout 3 & NV ( Do i need to say anything about this? i mean you already know how good they were...) ------------ starcraft 1-2 warcraft 3 Man blizzard really used to know how to make games. They have really lost my respect over the years. diablo 1-2 World of Warcraft (Burning crusade though wrath of the lich king) ------------ Ocarina of time -N64. ( iv beaten this game over five times and i still love playing it.) Republic commando. (Sigh...... one of the best star wars games that will never get a sequel.) Knights of the old republic 1 & 2. (some of the best single player experiences iv ever had.)
Kaz Aanh Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Crash Bandicoot series on psx <-my childhood, one of the best and hardest platformers Resident Evill 2,3, Silent Hill , Parasit Eve 1/2 , Dino Crisis 1/2 also on psx <- these games gave me a lot of scares, fun and enjoyment KKND2/Warzone2100 <- my early time with RTS games Fallou1/2 , Icewind Dale 1/2 <- I skipped baldurs gate sadly lol, game was too boring for my young mind Neverwinter Nights <- amazing plugin system, amazing adventures, and cooperation with my friend. We replayed entire game together many times with various builds. Warcraft3 <- I spent a lot of time in this game, amazing game with fantastic lore, gameplay and custom games. Which were fine until dota has started to appear and other games died off. I used to play a lot of fantasyrp, sotdrp, azeroth wars , lordaeron kingdoms, tree tags etc World of Warcraft <- got it only because of warcraft3, I just wanted more lore and explore scenarios that has happened during the war3 campaigns, damn visiting andorhal or plaguelands as paladin was fun. I quit after wotlk, when arthas died. Warcraft lore also died for me that day, and community as a whole. Leff4Dead 1/2 and Killing Floor 1 <- one of the best eras when I met many cool people i know to this day , hell we know each other for nearly 5 years and we are still playing games together. Not to mention how l4d was hella fun. And now? Dunno, maybe Skyrim, but I don't play this game. I use it only as a modding framework and screenshot simulator. No game is gonna top it in any kind of future I think.
gregathit Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 PC wise the two games that made the most impact on me were Command and Conquer, followed by Diablo. Console games.......well shit........I go back as far as playing pong on Atari......so......
Ernest Lemmingway Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 PC wise the two games that made the most impact on me were Command and Conquer, followed by Diablo. Console games.......well shit........I go back as far as playing pong on Atari......so...... Another old, old school gamer. My father has an original version of that. One of the first. He even let me play it just to see what life was like before the Atari 2600. Then the 8-bit systems and so on. I think I left out several titles. Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Dino Crisis 1-3, Wild Arms 1-4, Fatal Frame 1-3, PSO and PSU, .Hack parts 1-4, Koudelka and the Shadow Hearts trilogy, KoTOR 1 & 2 and SWTOR (though I've not played the last in over a year), Hunter: The Reckoning (all three titles; I was a fan of old World of Darkness, including Hunter), probably dozens more sitting neatly filed in a walk-in closet o' anime' stuff. Including three titles by the now defunct Megatech: Cobra Mission, Metal and Lace, and Knights of Xentar (the only Dragon Knight game ported to the States); can't find a copy of their last game, something DoLLS.
Prune Juice Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Morrowind, without a doubt. I feel like every time I boot it up, I find something new.
Shininku Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I'm going to try to do these in order, though I don't remember that well their times. Though TBH, some of them are actually older than I am, however, I played them with people who were older than I was, and as a result ended up really liking them. I think most of my games though are all more of the later gen, because I am probably younger than most others. Oh warning, it's a fairly long list. I'm a bit long-winded, cuz I type how I'm thinking, for better or worse. Sorry. It's why I'm a lurker after all, I just type too damn much lol. Asteroids - I don't remember the system, but there were only two colors, white and black. And I LOVED this game. I remember playing it with my mom and older brother trying to get the high score from each other. I remember on some levels just speeding across the screen trying to see how long I could go without dying and laughing with the family. Good times. Good times. Pacman - Sega - The same thing as Asteroids, competed with my family to try to get the high score. Maaan, my mom was great at this game.Aladdin - Sega - I had a lot of fun playing this one. I still remember racing on Carpet to get away from the lava.Battletoads Double Dragons - Sega - I played this a bunch along with the Power Rangers game, but by this point, my brother was getting older, so it started to get less fun playing by myself.Mighty Morphing Power Rangers - Sega - Along with the series and the movie, I was a massive fan of the first Power Rangers, and loved the game too. I remember I was so excited, there was a time a putty jumped down from the sky and shouted he punched him in the nuts and my mom slapped me because I shouldn't say nuts. Was a light slap, but it's funny thinking back on it. I still love the theme song for this series. Pokemon Blue - Original Gameboy - I spent, a lot amount of time playing this. I really wanted to catch them all, man, it's hard to believe that there was a time when it was actually possible to catch them all. Crash Bandicoot Crash Bash - Playstation - I REALLY loved this party-ish game. It was a lot of fun, I remember my brother didn't really think so, and he kind of didn't really like playing it all that much, but he still played it with me a lot. KOTOR 1/2 - Does this need explanation? I don't believe I've met a single person who didn't like KOTOR.Jedi Knight 3, Jedi Academy - Probably the game that got me into seeing mods were the best. Going through filefront to find crazy things was fun. Playing online and duels and stuff was also fun. Custom Robo - Gamecube - I loved this game a lot, but I think it's largely because I really liked 4 player games. Though for the most part my friends mostly played Melee by this point. And this game was largely shelved.Phantasy Star Blue? Zero? - Gamecube - Only important because it got me started on the Phantasy series. I ended up buying every subsequent one that came out on the PS2 and PSP, the one that stands out the most is probably the most recent one...Phantasy Star Portable 2 - PSP - The next Phantasy Star that I can say I spent a massive amount of time. Such a shame that we'll probably never get another over seas, and the best we can do is use a translation patch for PSO2.Super Smash Melee - Gamecube - The game me and my friends splooged over and was the go to game for gatherings.Star Wars.... Something... - Gamecube - There was a Star Wars game, I think it mostly focused on vehicles. But there was a top down mode, where you played as Jedi in Geonosis and had to survive hordes of enemies. I spent a LOT of time playing this with friends and my brother.TALES OF Symphonia - Gamecube - The Tales game that officially made me a fan of the franchise and have since bought every one that's come out since, with the exception of a few that weren't on consoles I owned. I believe I beat this game about 6 times, the only game I've beat beginning to end that many times, outside of Fire Emblem games. Advanced Wars - Gameboy Advanced - I had a lot of fun making maps and playing free mode and free for alls and team battles, over and over. STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 1 AND 2 - HOLY SHIT MAN. IF THERE'S A GAME THAT SHOULD BE ON THIS LIST... This is the only game aside from the Fire Emblem, that are ABSOLUTELY insane how much time I put into. I LOVED these games SOOOO much. I even had Battlefront Elite Squadron on the PSP. Imagine the feels when Dice shit all over these games with that god awful, depth-lacking, new battlefront. It plays great, but it's not a Battlefront. (Hey am I talking about Fallout 4?) And I don't believe any true fan would support the absolute lack of content, the amount of features that were cut out of the game. This ain't about my bias though, sorry. But I really did spend SOOO much time playing Battlefront 1 and 2. This was the very first game I bought on multiple systems, and then the mods for this.... Oh, Uhhhhnnn, Nnnnnng. Man I hate EA's new battlefront.Onimusha Blade Warriors - PS2 - Same thing as Custom Robo. Then seeing Megaman Zero in the game, and I loved his stage. I thought the ruined, raining city was just the best and the music was the best.Dynasty Warriors 2 - PS2 - Made me a fan of the series. I really loved this game. Even now, although I don't buy the main game, I still buy the "Empires" variant, because of character creation and the fun conquering the land. Including Samurai Warriors Empires.Kessen 2 - PS2 - I remember, I played this game so long in sessions, that the audio started to go nuts. If you played it too long, characters wouldn't say the correct things at times.Soul Calibur 3 - PS2 - I don't know how many times I beat chronicle mode. I REALLY wish they would bring it back in a new Soul Calibur.Marvel vs Capcom 2 - PS2 - Another game I mostly played alone, but loved anyway. Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - PS3 - This one gets a special mention because it was this game that made me specifically realize that my friends and I were taking different paths. They started to move away from fighting games and anime-ish games and towards FPS. Probably the start of me saying I should just play my kind of games. Oh man, Xenoverse 2 though. Excited for that I am.Bladestorm - PS3 - Spawned from my love of KoeiTecmo at the time. I also later got Bladestorm Nightmare for nostalgia.Dragons Dogma & Dark Arisen - PS3 - I bought the original and Dark Arisen. My thoughts were it's like if Skyrim went more actiony. In retrospect, it was stupid to compare them, but if TES keeps the route their going... Still at least the story makes you say "Hmm..." which is more than I can say for Fallout 4. Anyway, I've heard the next Dragon's Dogma is supposed to be an MMO, I'm not excited about that at all. Persona 3, 4, and most likely soon to be 5. - I don't think there's much to say here. A lot of people are familiar with Persona. Whether you know it as that GREAT weeb RPG, or know it as probably the most prevalent of waifu wars. Regardless, it's a great series, and I look forward to 5.SMT Imagine Online - I played this MMO, more than I should have for what it was, until Aeriagames stopped hosting it and I lost my account. If the SMT games on consoles and handhelds looked more like this, I'd probably be more willing to play them. Fire Emblem Binding SwordFire EmblemFire Emblem Sacred StonesFire Emblem Path of RadianceFire Emblem Radiant DawnFire Emblem AwakeningFire Emblem FatesSee where this is going? Hands down, my absolute favorite franchise. The only NA-released one I didn't like was the one on the DS and that's because they turned the lovely sprites into disgusting playdoh-y looking things. The DS one remains the only NA-released FE that I've never beaten more than once. I have so much Fire Emblem merchandise, including Fates special edition and the Fire Emblem 3DS. I'm sorry, but unless they actively take a dump on this franchise, it will always be my favorite. Maybe the next game there will be skin color options for the main character though... one can hope at least... Despite liking Persona and FE; I never got that crossover. I didn't have good feelings about it. Maybe it's because Nintendo censors everything, maybe it's just some gut feeling I had, I don't know, I didn't feel confident enough to pre-order it. Anyway, that's how it is from a more younger gamer. I tried to keep this list to only games that I really feel had a significant impact on me, which made it a bit longer than most others list. Sorry for that. I had a hard time summing up just 20 years of gaming, I don't know how you guys can sum up even longer. Maybe I'm too lenient, or maybe it was mostly youth that made these games stand out so much to me. Oh and Skyrim.

zapotek2034 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Going old school. Atari 2600: Combat - The best mode was where both player's tanks were invisible to start with the maximum shot duration (maybe like 10 seconds). It was a lot of fun because you would move your tanks around and never quite knew where they were on the board until you fired. At this point, the tank that belonged to whomever fired would be visible while the bullet would ricochet off the barriers and careen around the screen until you either hit your opponent, or the bullet's time ran out. It was always a mad dash to try and avoid getting shot by the other player until the tank became invisible again, or for the other player to fire and hope they had a good position to score a point before their own position was given away. Atari 800: Zork - the first adventure style game I had played. I remember playing (and dying in game) many times before finally figuring out how to beat the game. Karateka - Old school karate fighting game Murder on the Zinderneuf - An adventure game where you play as a detective. The player is presented with a different murderer and victim each time the game is played which made it fun to play over and over. Bill Budge's Pinball Construction Set - Many playthroughs of the pre-made tables and ones that my friends and I would build Arcade (80s): Star Wars - After seeing the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back as a kid in the 80s, this game was awesome because it simulated flying an X-Wing fighter and making runs through waves of Tie Fighters and the trenches of the Death Star before you would blow it up. Apple ][: The Bard's Tale 1,2 and 3 - Old school RPGs. My friends and I would compete to see who could get further and find more stuff first Wizardry 1, 2, 3 and 4 - More old school RPG While there were plenty of other games that I have played which were great (and will play), these early games formed the basis for the majority of the types of games I have played and will likely continue to play (Adventure, RPG, Fighting, Shooter). The adventure and RPG style games were always "gotta play just a bit more" to see what happens next...and then you realize it's 2am. The fighting and shooter style games were always about playing with friends and talking smack about who had the highest score.
