Guest Vendayn Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 One thing that seems weird... I sided with Institute. Went to fight a ton of Brotherhood of Steel. And two things... One, they shout something about me being a heathen of god or something along that lines. They shouted like they belonged in Warhammer. But also it seems Bethesda has turned BoS into a bunch of technology hoarding crusaders...and nowhere in Fallout lore as far as I know are BoS a bunch of religious crusaders fighting in the name of "God". Is there anything in lore about that, that is NOT from Bethesda? It sounded like I'd hear it from the guys in Warhammer lol...it didn't sound like it fit Fallout...AT ALLNext... When I went to fight in the initial introduction to Institute. There was a huge battle between Synths, Railroad and BoS. And...everyone was friendly to me. I literally just walked along the battle scene, ignoring everything and won the mission by not doing anything. And then you literally get pop ups saying "Are you SURE you want to do this? This will make the brotherhood of steel hate you!"...I never played a Bethesda game with lame pop ups like that lol. Every other game I do what I want That I think is my biggest issue with Fallout 4, is there is no consequences at all, nothing you do actually matters that much. And bethesda really makes it so you don't make any mistake at all, and gives you huge pop up warnings before hand. That wasn't like that in any other Fallout or Elder Scrolls game I played. Overall though, I am still having a ton of fun in Fallout 4. But, there is definitely things that are terrible about it lol. Mostly I think I love the vastly more stable and performance friendly engine. Plus the mods out help quite a bit, even without advanced modding capabilities.

Mostly I think I love the vastly more stable and performance friendly engine. Plus the mods out help quite a bit, even without advanced modding capabilities. It seems that Bethesda is focusing on making their games look and perform better and leaving everything else to modders. I only speak for myself when I say that's a very bad idea. XCOM 2 is still buggy and unstable yet I'm having more fun with it than I did with FO4 simply because the story pulls me in and keeps my attention. I wish I could have said the same for FO4 because I'm a huge fan of the previous titles. This one has potential...but it goes utterly unrealized. That's literally the first thought that came to my mind when I got past the initial tutorials. The engine is the same story. They could have gone a lot further with it, could have updated it more, could have made things look better and add a lot more functions without hurting performance. But they didn't. Once more, they're leaving that to modders. What's likely going to bite them in the ass is the inherent limitations of their target market (consoles). Computers can use third-party programs to enhance and extend the engine's capabilities. It remains to be seen if consoles can do the same, if they'll need specialized versions of said programs, or if somebody at Microsoft and/or Sony gets a bug up their ass and blocks their functioning outright.
AsariX Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Automatron was a nice new little quest chain, though a bit short perhaps, and I don't really like how all the robot pieces automatically unlock upon completion (I would've prefered if we had been encouraged to keep hunting for random blueprint drops). Wasteland Workshop on the other hand.. Well, there's a few new things to build, but I can't say I care much for the capturing/gladiator bit. I know some people werethinking about making mods like that, which is awesome, but the only effect this DLC has, is that they won't make that mod, but at best expand a little on the buggy framework provided by this DLC. I just don't see the point of the whole thing. Apart from building a few things, the whole capturing thing is a rather passive experience, there's simply no gameplay involved.
RoxDox Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I am utterly disappointed with it. I was so hyped for this game and so happy when it was announced, I remember going to my local Eb Games with my friends and getting it as soon as the store opened. I believed Bethesda couldn't possibly let me down with it seeing it was Bethesda and I've loved every iteration of the elder scrolls and fallout. But this was just different they just gutted the game, and watered it down for a more casual audience, no stats, no karma, no real RPG mechanics. When I did do my first play through though I guess you could say I was in a bit of denial and was just telling myself I was enjoying it. Once I beat the main story though I just completely stooped playing it and haven't been back since.
DocClox Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Good writing but still biased. It criticises Bethesda for overusing their formulas like dealing with companions more rather than result of it which is a complete wrong. It's an odd piece really. A lot of good points, but he seemed to feel the need to make everything bad, and it's not that bad a game. I don't think it's a good one either, not by a long shot, but there are definitely things it does well. If the author had been a little more even handed in the review he could have been quite persuasive. Is Fallout 4 not a good game? Yes. Is it tedious sometimes? Absolutely. Is this a massive disaster like Deus Ex: Invisible War survived only because of hype? Hell no. I keep trying to tell myself the DX:IW wasn't entirely a bad game, and that its major problems were lack of content on the grounds that the original pretty much said everything there was to say about conspiracy theory. Then I think about DX:HR and remember that it can be done right. It's just a shame about the boss fights and the load times. DX:HR could have been one of the all time greats.

If the author had been a little more even handed in the review he could have been quite persuasive. He is doing it for a reason. He says: "With a record-shattering 12 million copies shipped on launch day alone, Fallout 4 is poised to overtake Skyrim as the best-selling RPG of all time and become an important cultural touchstone for the next generation of RPG publishers, PR agencies, developers, and fans alike. In the years to come, Fallout 4 will be crucially important to everything we say and do as an RPG community..." The point I see in this kind of reviews, forum posts all over the internet, youtube videos and such is not about FO4 itself but the games to come - TES6, FO5, many other games that will be created by studios that are now watching how the trends that FO4 is riding and amplifying are been accepted by the players. This video by Gopher for example also touches on the question - what does FO4 mean for the future? Note how long it takes him to get to the actual point. He first had to appease each of the two "camps" before trying to point out that fans might fight about how good and bad FO4 is, but this is not the big question anymore. What I liked the most about the "13 Shocking Facts about..." is that it is full with examples. You might disagree with some of his conclusions, but not with the facts. What he does is simply pointing to the problems he sees and says that some of those things are not acceptable and he really doesn't want to see them in future games. FO4 is already a fact - like it or hate it, it has already broken sales records. No review can have any effect on the sales of FO4 or the upcoming DLCs. But the only thing that might prevent TES6 and FO5 been like FO4 is a negative player and community reaction.
ToJKa Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 It's just a shame about the boss fights and the load times. DX:HR could have been one of the all time greats. The director's cut fixed the boss battles, there's now ways to deal with them with other than just combat skills.

I think it work better if some of his conclusions weren't so tenuous. I mean does the lack of panning cinematic cutscenes really mean the companion system is primitive and broken? It'd call that a point in the game's favor, personally. I agree with maybe 80% of what he says, but the way he puts it all together makes it easy to dismiss his writing as "just another hater". Guest Mogie56 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I think the biggest problem people have with the game is that it is TOO different, it isn't the same as....it doesn't follow what they see as....it isn't a true pen and paper RPG and of course the old and tired....it isn't Fallout New Vegas Made by Obsidian. which was the most boring detached game in the series but it's DLC's saved it from being a total waste. I enjoy Fallout 4 just as I enjoyed Fallout 3, DLC's are a plus. But I am not one to be scared shitless of searching for a Baby or a Father, being brought back for the headshot dead just makes no sense whatsoever especially by a Grandpa Doc without the facilities to do so. But whatever, it's just a bloody game that has no impact on real life.
Wired Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 The main problem of RPG Codex is lack of response from the outside. Not "LOL CYNICAL ELITISTIC BASEMENT DWELLER SUB-HUMANS " type of response. There's literally no one to point into unprofessionally done parts of this article like unintentional trolling of xbox one fan base. This article desperately needs more "weight" so it could be read by larger audience too. If it wasn't posted on rpg codex, these "13 facts..." would be shocking fo real. It's just a shame about the boss fights and the load times. DX:HR could have been one of the all time greats. Director's Cut fixed this. And yellow filter. God I miss yellow filter... And don't forget what a mess Creation Engine really is! Using deferred rendering and still lags like hell. Fail.

You can always try sorting the thread that discusses it on Redit "by controvertial" like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/4eb853/rpg_codex_releases_their_critique_of_fallout_4/?sort=controversial Then you'll get comments like "Clickbait title = shitpost article. Without fail. The tremendous word count following the clickbait title doesn't change that."
Ashkandii Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Hey, theres only one way to improve is that is to make an mistake, just like Fallout: BOS. Fallout 4 will be soon swept under the rugged whilst they prosper in that dolla dolla bill after the 9th installment of the elder scrolls which magically sold 20 million consumer copies on the first day. Overall I enjoyed Fallout 4 more then destiny. so on my list of games that delivered i guess Fallout 4 bribed his way in with "theres gonna be some kick-ass mods son just you wait"
