Guest Vendayn Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just curious how many times everyone has modded Skyrim so much it breaks and needs to be reinstalled? Even following STEP, I end up getting my own mods I want to use and screw things up lol. It probably took 15 or so reinstalls (I learned a LOT along the way) till I figured things out and got a much playable game. But boy did it get annoying at times lol. STEP helped toward the end, but now I just make my own mod list and things mostly work out of the box. And with mod organizer, I can have only sexlab mods installed if I want to play that kinda game, or play my regular gameplay oriented game with a ton of survival mods and stuff. Or were you one of those skillful modders and things just worked out the box the first attempt?
Deimos Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Lets see 10 times because of c++ errors breaking the os, 5 times because of a rouge script that broke the install, and finally 8 times because of not installing things in the right order and having to start over.
Drezz Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 this is basically how it goes, " man my skyrim runs so stable now, im glad i followed that ultimate op best guide in the world, now i can play my game without crashing because that guide was the best one ever" ...two hours later.. *downloads multiple wip/unstable/conflicting mods and doesnt read instructions.. breaks game.. " fuck i guess i got to install my game again" rinse and repeat
Sarathis Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just once, way back when I first started modding. I had to move Steam out of Program Files. I've always used MO instead of NMM which helps a lot, though. Keeping your Data folder free of crap generally saves you from needing to completely reinstall.
TnTTnT Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 3 times (Manual mods installation -> NMM -> MO).
tlrd Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Like 12 times because i Fucking stupidly refuse to learn how to use MO.
sila Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 The cool thing about Mod organizer is that you never have to reinstall skyrim, since nothing goes into the data folder.
zniachtl Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 1x "re"install worked actually perfectly fine until that "infinite instances of enbhost pop up faster than they can be closed and only rebooting machine lets you continue" thing started, took eons to fix that one, (had to do with having a day before installed vc++ 2015, which i had to removed again and do other stuff)
PanicBunny Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 3 Times due to switching my Rig, ~2-3 times after I killed it for space on my hard drive and 2 times because I´m to dumb to install mods in a stable manner
Zquad1 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I can't count how any times I have re-installed Skyrim do to bug errors But Since last year I have never re-installed Skyrim Because of Errors Now I re-install Because I have WAY to many mods that my game runs out of memory blocks & the game pretty much Stops responding So when I get to that point I use this Mod Multiple Skyrim Installations Manager it makes re-installs so much easier & you can pull mods from your old setup that failed on you instead of trying to search your personal archives for the mods, it keeps your last previous Skyrim installations in it's own back-up, so if you have enough HDD Space you can have endless installations & bop from one install to the other in a matter of minutes instead of waiting for Steam to re-download the whole game again.
NickNozownik Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Once. I haven't reinstalled it in 2 or 3 years. Read the description to avoid mod conflicts, don't overload it with heavily scripted stuff, dump everything into data folder. My data folder is bloated as fuck, but Skyrim runs perfectly fine and crashes are very rare. Oh, and I avoid mods with description like "u guise r 2 lazy, download and chekc wat it does by urself, ima mod god no need 4 desc lol".
s666 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 for me the worst thing was immersive armor mods have totally distroyed my save, (like more 400hours of gameplay in my ***) because when i have uninstalled this mod, 50% of all NPC are stay naked. I have reinstalled skyrim with my mods because of this, like 1 day of works, but the problem is staying. The only solution is to add manually the clothes when i see a naked NPC, that don't work sometime, but this mod have totally breaking my immersion game. Exemple, you are a knight with a heavy armor, you enter in a tavern, and you see 4/5 peoples naked turn around you and a elf with a huge penis says you: "What do you need?" Believe me, your Skyrim exerience is totally fucked. So,you learn you when do bullshits, and believe me i have learn a lot with Skyrim...
Kshahdoo Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Dozen of times. This procedure consumes all day, from morning to late night. Such a pain in the arse
Veladarius Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Other than 2 HDD failures I have not reinstalled Skyrim and I am approaching 6900 hours of play.
Varithina Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 About 4 or 5, and I am looking at doing another one soonish, and like many I do us mo, but I am getting out of order records on all armour and clothing even base vanilla game stuff, even with not mod at all installed, I would normally not be bothered about it, but I am getting the odd your naked comment from npc's even when fully dressed, which is annoying as hell.
Anbeegod Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 4. Because my hard drive was too small and I wanted to try other games. Mod failure was never a reason. Seriously, I can solve them myself, and reinstalling would truly screw everything up.
sshadow5001 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Too many times. I actually have it backed up on a HDD so I wouldn't need to spend an hour redownloading it.
OldGuy879 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Too many times. I actually have it backed up on a HDD so I wouldn't need to spend an hour redownloading it. I though I was the only one that did that as for reinstall one time for every dlc for some reason... and 2 times afterwards when I got so confused about and error I had stared myself angry on.

Well it did take 4 or so screwing up of mods for me to learn lol. First I downloaded the game, Cleaned the addons, Installed SKSE and then just copied the whole Skyrim folder so a HDD. Now if anything goes wrong I just delete the entire Skyrim folder and copy it back from my HDD. Saves me alot of headaches now.
Rayblue Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Only twice: one after completely messing the entire game, and another, moving Steam to a new drive, cleaning up before installing MO. Now it's possible to back up the game through Steam (the files that came with the game, and not the ones added manually), and if something goes wrong, can restore it completely for a fresh new start.
gudfella Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Before started using MO 7 or 8 times After investing some time learning MO Zero
