merryMalfunctioning Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 It's my turn to say thank you and to you and vyper00 markdf. I'd just about given up on a heavily modded skyrim after repeated bouts of games suddenly not loading. It turns out you two put the finger right on my problem! With your sexlab patch installed and culling a few lesser mods I've now got 77 hours into a save that nearly never CTDs (I can count on one hand the number of times it's crashed). When they write the history of Skyrim modding you two should be right up there with Sheson, Boris, and Fores Aw, thanks. :-) Don't forget h38fh2mf, his "Crash Fixes" plugin will let you string count go above 65536 without any issues. Personally I think it's better to keep the string count lower, but I definitely have Crash Fixes installed as a backup!
domp Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 And my thanks too! mark you are the man thanks for not giving up on us and creating a solution, helping the community, staying positive and making the game great Thank you so much dude!

I am an addicted user of tes5edit so keeping string counts down is my only option. h38fh2mf has taught me much othewise, though.

Personally I think it's better to keep the string count lower, but I definitely have Crash Fixes installed as a backup! I would say a huge thanks to you both. Crash fixes lets my saves load faster, never CTD because of memory, and your work on restringing (and making people pay attention to it) keeps my saves stable. I've run 50+ hours on a game that with the same load order (even a slightly reduced one) would bork itself after 2-3 hours. My string count in TesVesse is 45700 pretty stably. Doing the beta update of SL Framework broke the animations in that and SLAL. Re-registering them made them work again, but upped my string count by 4000+. Luckily the animation slot patch someone here (I'm sorry I don't remember who - but he or she deserves credit as well) can be loaded after the beta update in MO, making everything update as it should, but still keeping the low string count for animations in SL and SLAL.
merryMalfunctioning Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 I made the animation slots patch too. :-) Glad things are working for you!
Selfishmonkey Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I made the animation slots patch too. :-) Glad things are working for you! Well then - just more thing to thank you for :-) I'm not using your strings patch for SL along side it. Should I? An issue of course is that I'm using the beta patch for SL alongside it, and downgrading SL mid playthrough will probably not go well.
merryMalfunctioning Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 I don't recommend restringing sexlab. Restringing is for endpoint mods, like Cursed Loot or Simple Slavery or A Forsworn Story.

Yeah that's what I thought. Also why I'm not restringing Campfire and the like. Although if Chesko is made aware of this issue he would probably fix what could be fixed (if indeed there's anything to fix).
merryMalfunctioning Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 I really intended Restringer for mods like Interesting NPCs and Legacy of the Dragonborn, because they use such an insane amount of strings. But you mentioned it didn't work with Frostfall -- that I will definitely investigate. Restringer should work with Frostfall. I doubt it's an issue with Chesko's code; more likely it's just that his code is exposing some flaw in Res7tringer's algorithms.
merryMalfunctioning Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 So Markdf, new SL came out, should not wait a patch? You mean a new version of the animation slots patch? I don't even know yet if it needs to be updated. I've been busy with the new Savegame editor.

merryMalfunctioning Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 My patch replaces two files. Are the timestamps on those files newer than the ones in the sexlab 1.62?
lastbytescout Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Nope, both files were changed in v1.62, the new ones are significantly larger.
Kbyf Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 so what about patch for SexLab? we need them or Ashal included in?
merryMalfunctioning Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 so what about patch for SexLab? we need them or Ashal included in?I offered my patch to Ashal but he wasn't interested. I haven't looked at the new Sexlab yet, but it probably needs a new patch.
Mars Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Just wanted to say thanks for figuring this out. Hit the limit myself and would have wasted many hours trying to fix the problem, likely just giving up. So thanks again and a big Cheers!

Hit the limit myself and would have wasted many hours trying to fix the problem, likely just giving up. So thanks again and a big Cheers! Some of us wasted days or weeks on it... it sucked. So we've been posting about it EVERYWHERE, on every CTD thread on any forum, if it sounds like a match. We emailed the SKSE team, messaged the guy who makes Crash Fixes (who eventually did provide a fix!), so on and so forth. I think lots of people have this issue and DO give up... hence this thread.

Having read most of this thread I've seen the process you guys went through in the last few months. But I must be a bit googly eyed here. On the first page it says there is no real fix, just to make sure and start a game under 50k. What fix do you mean? This one?.....http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/2551-crash-fixes/ If so, does that allow you to go over?

Crash Fixes v10 or later has a setting that will let you go over... But the save games won't be readable by the two legacy save editors once you go over. My new save editor (ReSaver) will read and write them though. I also made a tool called ReStringer that can rewrite a mod's scripts to use fewer strings, so that you can keep your string count down, as well as a patch for Sexlab to stop it from using such an incredibly high number of strings when it registers animations.
Spyro84 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Hi Mark Is your Sexlab strings patch safe to use with SL 1.62 or does it need to be updated first? Just wondering is all.
merryMalfunctioning Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 Hi Mark Is your Sexlab strings patch safe to use with SL 1.62 or does it need to be updated first? Just wondering is all. The newest version will ONLY work with SL 1.62.
spoonsinger Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Hi Mark Is your Sexlab strings patch safe to use with SL 1.62 or does it need to be updated first? Just wondering is all. It did actually work with 1.62, but I found that you were limited to the 375 animation limit. (I know, because when I upgraded to 1.62 I forgot to disable the string patch as well in MO, and was scratching my head wondering why I couldn't go over 375 when everything else seemed fine.). EDIT - I was talking about the old one. But as there is a new one, (ref above post). Go with that. (ummm toast).

Picked up the patch for Sexlab also Resaver and will keep in mind ReStringer, but many of my mods have dependencies and I believe you said it's a no go to use it on those. Would experiment, but honestly I just want to play the damn game, setting up everything with 250 plus mods, merged mods, bashed patch and fiddling with all the settings was a job in itself, the game plays well, just those damn saves, well thats sorted, thanks again buddy.

To clarify, ReStringer has no problem with mods that have dependencies. It has a problem with mods that ARE a dependency. Basic mods, like Sexlab and Racemenu; modifying their scripts would break certain mod that depends on them.
