Balts and Finns also don't seem to have portraits at all (I vaguely remember this problem)... Really not sure what the problem is. I know it's not the changes I made because it didn't work before hand either. Tried verifying game cache, and even buying the reaper's due extra pack with east african portraits. Nothing...

I'll try restarting my computer. iirc CK2 issues can sometimes be solved that way. Something about how the game saves data to load faster. (Nope, no luck)

Oh well. Here's my edited version... hopefully someone can figured it out, or that it at least works for them.

edit: I'll try redownloading the one you posted. Maybe it got corrupted? Really I have no more ideas up my sleeve on this.

edit2: Alright, ignore the file I had attached, that one was odd. Maybe I extracted form the wrong zip file or something. i think i can solve it from here. I'll reattach the fixed one when I'm done. I'm making progress on this.

Alright, sorry for flooding your thread so much with my own mistakes recently. Here is the version with all the copy pasted stuff fully working.

Not sure how I got the files from the previously uploaded one, and I hope I didn't cause you too much work looking into it.

It's a mystery similar to that of the Loch Ness Monster. Most likely the yammerings of a fool who thought he saw something he didn't. The fool being myself.

Only other thing I can think of you might have done was went with an override approach to copying your files over, causing some old outdated files to linger, or get mixed up in other files. When it comes to mod folders -- because file names and locations can change -- I always recommend completely deleting a mod folder before moving a more updated mod folder into its place.

Glad you got it working. I plan on using the Seiji anime pack as an optional extension for my next mod I'm working on, so that saves me time.

Thx for updating it! and I found a bug playing multiplayer, the purple border around the player's portrait is now gone, at least the others can't see the purple border on me but I can see theirs ;/

Wait, say that again, lol. You and your friends are using my mod together, and you're saying the other players can't see your purple border, but you can see theirs? The mod is working as intended for them, but not for you?

Basically, your only issue is the border isn't showing up on your controlled character? I'm surprised Paradox has the border show up on the player's controlled character at all, since it would seem redundant, considering it's obvious to the player who they themself are controlling.

Also, by chance, are you using Seiji's anime portraits mod? I know that mod changes the border behavior. For example, pink means pregnant, so if you're not pregnant, you shouldn't see anything, at least from what I understand.

I think the problem is in some cultural portrait definnition the player layer or whatever ir is called is above the swapping layers, while in others is below it. But I might be wrong on that account.

@ReMeDy

I explained that poorly. I dont need ot include this mod in the fix, infact the only reason I came here was because your mod page on LoversLab directed me here to get an example of how to do the fix myself, but I couldn't find said example

Hi Church, I couldn't send links from an Adult website onto Steam, especially because websites are finicky about Lover's Lab links. Steam won't even tolerate Mediafire links, so there's no way they'll tolerate Lover's Lab. I'll update my info linking to my Game of Thrones mod, because that is no longer an accurate representation of the current state of my portrait mod; sorry for the confusion.

Try starting with this file from Bah above who was gracious enough to work on a compatibility version of my mod for Seiji's anime mod. Using that mod alone will make my static portraits work with Seiji's anime portraits, but of course you still need to make it compatible for Dark World. To do that, copy over all of Dewguru's Dark World gfx/characters files (remedy_portrait_swapping, 2, 3, 4, etc.). Once done, use your mod instead of Dew's portrait sub-mod and share with me your results. I'd test them myself, but I'm too busy atm.

Seems to be working, I just have to kill and resummon characters who were supposed to have the unique traits. My only guess as to why is that the hidden trait doesn't apply to them correctly if its applied mid-game to already spawned characters.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

I wish you had asked me all this a day later, lol. ngppgn put out a template pack version of my template pack just now that isn't dependent on Paradox's portrait DLC. I've confirmed it's compatible with Seiji's Anime portraits, and should also work with Dark World. It may fix the kill and resummon issue you're having. Again, just load the gfx files into this mod. Run all three mods separately and at the same time: Seiji's, DW, and this template pack. You'd probably have to start a new save though.

I've spent the last hour trying to get this mod and the anime portraits 2.7 to work together but can only get them to work separately.  I've tried using the files on your post as well as that tool at http://www.loverslab.com/topic/75290-ck2resource-a-new-way-of-implementing-static-portraits/.  How do I get this to work?  Are there any instructions written anywhere?

Are you using npggpn's latest template pack, or my anime pack? Npg's pack should work separately, and is fully compatible with Seiji's Anime Portraits. I linked to his topic in my topic post. Just drop your edited gfx files into the gfx folder and you're good to go.

I'm trying to use your anime pack as well as Seiji's Anime Portraits.  I've tried using the files from the Template Test.zip as well as using his python tool and I don't know if I'm just using it wrong, but I can't get both the Anime portraits working properly and the static portraits from your Anime pack to work at the same time.  Can you be more specific with your instructions?  Which gfx folder (your mod's, anime portraits, the base gfx folder?), what edited gfx files?

Edit: Currently I've gotten Seiji's Anime Portraits working normally and the traits from your Anime pack showing up, however none of the static portraits are shown when I give them the trait, whether through ruler designer or the console.

Okay, you're actually the first person who's ever asked to use my anime portraits with Seiji's -- most people just use my template pack and add their own. Do you want the portrait names to be portrait1, portrait2, etc. or do you prefer the custom names in my anime pack? If you don't mind the trait names being portrait1, portrait2, etc., then download and only use the following file for your portraits. Don't confuse this with the downloads for the template pack or anime pack, as I've made this just for you by combining the two together. Of course, make sure you also enable Seiji's Anime Portraits 2.7! Make sure you also start a new game.:

(Deleted, broken file! Sorry! Click here for the correct one!)

That approach is probably best for you, that way, if you want, you can add your own portraits to the end of what I have and don't have to mess with your own names. I included an updated image chart in the file for referencing.

That is WAD. The traits are given the hidden = yes attribute in their definition. Why do you need to see them if I may ask? If it is only for testing, you can open the file and do a replace all instances of hidden = yes by some modifier like intrigue = -1 then hover over the intrigue score of a character. If it has the portrait, it'll tell you in the score breakdown tooltip.

By not being able to see them I mean the option for applying the portraits through the console isn't working and neither is selecting them in Ruler Designer.  I try the command "add_trait portrait1" and it tells me that it doesn't exist and there are no portrait traits in the selection of traits in Ruler Designer.

Oh shit, I figured out why. That's my mistake. In the .mod file, I have it linking to the wrong folder, so it can't read the files. Let's try this again:

Template test_portrait_replacer_anime_pack.zip

The lack of Ruler Designer selection is also working as intended, because I didn't want to occupy 650 slots in your Ruler Designer, as that would make scrolling through the traits to select a pain, and the trait icons would have been empty graphic icons anyways. In comparison, my anime pack with custom names is displayed in Ruler Designer, because I only use 149 out of 650 portraits, and I added my own trait icons. It sounds like you want that functionality added in the template pack. I went ahead and enabled the 149 selectable portrait traits in Ruler Designer, but I can't afford the time to make each thumbnail icon work, as that would involve painstakingly naming each of my 149 files one-by-one to match portrait1, portrait2, etc.

Time for another update. One by one, Paradox is slowly opening up their code to allow modders to implement static portraits with almost no setbacks! The only thing we still can't do is apply portraits to children (damn, kids).

With this update, effective today, I will no longer support the cultural gfx approach of old.

ver 4.00:

  • I've migrated my mod over to ngppgn's new society method for coding. This eliminates the need for portrait dlc, and is compatible with most other portrait mods, such as Seiji's Steam Anime Portrait Pack. The exception to any compatibility issues is if you try using a portrait mod adding custom property slots, found in portrait_properties.txt, but this seems fairly rare in most mods.

Just quoting to say that if you're interested, I got around to updating my Anime Pack. It uses my anime portraits with customized names, selectable Ruler Designer icons, and it's compatible with Seiji's Anime Portraits. If you prefer using the Template naming approach though, just stick to what I provided you earlier.

Hey I came across a strange bug when creating a custom portrait. I added the portrait and exported the .dds file and all that jazz, everything was looking fine, started up the game, added the trait to my character and I can see the portrait, but I can also see a character with essentially no facial traits/bald/etc.

Ignore the pink bottom of the screen, but as you can see, somethings gone horribly wrong.

I was wondering if maybe it was because I'm using GIMP instead of Photoshop, GIMP seemed to work just fine as far as fixing the portrait into the slot.

For the record all the other portraits work fantastic, and I was rather impressed with you putting these templates together.

Honestly it made me want to start uploading portraits of Game of Thrones characters from the book art that people have made rather than their TV show counterparts.

On a less serious, much funnier note my Joffery looks like he's about to turn into a fucking Animorph

After 3 hours of finger-cramping labour, I've done it. Joffrey the Bastard has joined the game.

This is an incredible edition, and with a little tweaking, is pretty much compatible with anything. Thank you sir!

Sorry for the late response. That certainly is a weird issue that I've never seen before. Do all the other portraits that share that same portrait's in that .dds file also have issues, or is it ONLY that one custom portrait having issues? If it's only one portrait, maybe there's an alpha layer transparency issue going on.

Just to be safe, disable any other sub-mods. It could be there's a sub-mod that shares my portrait mod and it's competing for priority over the same portrait slot.

Also, when exporting your .dds files, try the best you can to match it to the following, or as much as GIMP will allow:

DXT5, ARGB, 8 bpp, interpolated alpha, 2D texture, with no mipmaps

I wish I could give a precise answer, but I haven't seen that issue before, so try all that first and get back with me.

Hi, first of all I just want to say that this is a great mod. It is working fine with vanilla CK2 but when I play your game of thrones mod it says that portraitxxx cannot be recognised/ cannot be found.

"5.) Your images must be circles, otherwise, the edges of your pictures will bleed outside the borders of characters. My Photoshop template will help you in this regard. If you can't open my Photoshop template file, instead, open one of my .dds files and download the following image for the portrait circles. Overlap it on top of your portraits. Make sure it overlaps perfectly.
http://www.mediafire... portraits).png"

I'm having problems just in this part of the circle images. I'm not very good with photoshop, and whenever I merge the layers, the transparent background disappears

Could you update this link? maybe it helps

If anyone runs into an issue where only the first 1-27 seem to be loading, just be sure that the .dds files are named 02 through 09 and not 2 to 9.

IE: remedy_portrait_swapping02.dds <- correct filename

not remedy_portrait_swapping2.dds <- incorrect filename

Probably only an issue if someone had their own template from older packs and decided to simply copy all their .dds over into the new mod folder structure.

^ *edit*, solved my own problem.
