So I did a little research on telekinesis...

Was bored. Here's some information if anyone's interested:

My very basic findings was that our brainwaves are too weak and have a very short travel distance. Even if it was possible, you would have to train your brain for years (on average) and the object would have to be very light weight. It would also have to be a few centimeters away from our body. There also wouldn't be a profound effect like in the movies; in fact, it'll be quite the opposite. Let's say you try to move a pair of earbuds. You would never be able to control its direction, and it'll only move a centimeter or two to the left (for example).

Sad findings, eh? My dream of having a superpower is lost.  :(

Indirect telekinesis is possible, though.

If you think REALLY hard, you can move things with your hand.

I could be wrong, though. I need to do more research on handikinesis.

Haha.

Already a master of it. :)

I took over the job of my father as my father took over the job of his father to use our telekinetic gifts to keep the moon up in the sky and let it circle around the world! And nobody ever said thank you... :(

Are you sure you don't have any superpowers? It could be that you just do not have any mana, like most people.

Scientifically: the major reason our brainwaves are so short is because the average human (90% of the population) is only able to access a small fraction of the capabilities of the human brain. Sure, there are certain activities that make the whole brain light up like a Christmas Tree when monitored, but that doesn't mean that the full potential of the mind is being accessed.

Spiritually: Most major religions teach something along the lines of "if you think it, it will become so". (ie: Christianity "Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains").

Logical Conclusion: Potential of the human mind will remain limited, as long as people "believe" it is limited. It's a lack of willpower, or as Jaberwocky said, a lack of mana.

Granted, I'm still not sure I believe myself, and I've never been able to get it to work myself, BUT there are alot of studies that say psychic powers work at greater distance than that.  Check out the book "Real Magick" by PEI Bonewitz.  He footnotes all of the studies by the Russians and various US groups that he looked at.

I saw one problem right off the bat with your study IF you want to approach it from the idea that psychic powers are possible.  That being that telekinesis isn't about moving the object, it's about moving the object's aura / energy.  It's like the old judo addage of whereever the head goes, the body follows (barring decapitations, rofl).  Sense and move the aura and the object will move with it.  Keep that in mind and it gives Yoda's teachings to Luke in Empire Strikes Back (when he was trying to move the X-Wing) a whole new dimension.

EDIT / ADDENDA:  Meh, what the heck.  If you want to try to learn TK, the most commonly advised way I've seen is to start with something small, light and non-magnetic.  A rubber flat washer like at the end of a garden hose is a good choice.  Put it on a surface like a table (flat, level and smooth) and put your hands on both sides of it a few inches away from the object.  The hands thing is because most people have an easier time visualizing a Star Wars style force pull than just moving the object with your mind.

Then it's just a matter of focusing your attention on moving the object.  Getting back to the Star Wars analogies, it is theoretically possible to tap the natural Ki / Chi of the world to augment your efforts.  Anybody with martial arts training should be able to make that leap.  ANYWAY, when the object can be consistently moved, you can move your hands farther away and move to gradually bigger objects too.

One last note here...  Aside from the aura side of it, the biggest mistake people make with psychic abilities is mistaking mental effort for focus.  Effort / straining mentally won't accomplish anything.  Think of it more as focusing a laser beam.  The more you can get that attention completely focused on ANY task (psychic or otherwise) while staying free of tension, the greater your results will be.

Heh, dropped a lot of useful info there. I may try it out soon and see how my progress goes. Will be expanding my research while attempting this.

I have been an indirect witness of poltergeist phenomena on two separate occasions (in another room)

and both times with a witness. The first time a little ceramic model of a house got flipped upside down,

breaking one corner off of it. The second time a guitar case with a guitar inside got dragged down a flight of

stairs and across the living room floor and propped up against a bench in front of the fireplace. My nephew and I

were in the basement and we heard it happen. My dad was in the hospital unconscious and slowly ebbing away,

and I had talked with my sister a half hour earlier asking if she thought I should take the guitar when my dad died.

Maybe dad moved it; my sister certainly didn't. Needless to say, I took the guitar. So, yes, stuff can get moved around

without being touched under exceptional circumstances. I should mention that the ceramic house that got broken

was in a house we were about to move out of after having lived there for many years; the symbolism wasn't lost on me.

Did I move the stuff?, My dying dad? A ghost?  I have no answer for that.

Edit: You can hear a recording of that very guitar if you happen the play the Sexout Soliciting mod, during the Poetry Man

episode ;)

We had a neighbor that shattered glasses and bent spoons without touching them, one time she was at the local market and broke all the glass bottles in it and ran out as it happened. She was quite ashamed of being able to do that.

Finally, she couldn't stand having such a bizarre attribute, so she moved out to a more secluded place.

I guess this is where I point out that some people have manifested fully tangible bodies while deathly ill. Most of them don't remember the experience but those they met do XD

I am sorry but that is such a load of shit I cannot even begin to explain why it is so wrong.

This is just some sci-fi crap you see in movies. Someone correct me if I am wrong but our brain consumes 20% of our energy.

considering its size and its functions 20% is an insane number compared to the rest of your body.

this silly notion we only use 10% of our full potential or only a small amount of people have unlocked their full potential is just crap.

The truth is we are using 100% of our brain all the time but the human body is smart, evolution has taught it that using 100% of all its functions at all times is unnecessary, consumes too much energy and will hurt its host. its like keeping, when you are driving, your foot on the clutch all the time.

For example there are some autistic people that after looking at something or someones face they will focus on every detail and try to memorize it.

For you or me we just block out all the background stuff and focus on the person in-front of us but the autistic person? he focuses on EVERYTHING. So while our brain maybe the most powerful computer far surpassing anything we can currently build the amount of information registered and recorded gives these people horrific headaches.

TDLR: there is no such thing as unused potential by our brain, we posses the most powerful mind on this planet and we did not achieve it by not achieving our full potential. So no. you dont have super powers and wont get any either. At least organically.

edit: to the other people out here lol, if you actually think you have super mind powers try to measure heat or electrical current to whatever you are moving. If there is one law that is undeniable in this world is that energy cannot be destroyed. ever. it can only move from one status to another. So whatever your mind is trying to do it should create another form of energy if you measure it then you have discovered something astounding and you deserve a Nobel prize.

Good luck.

A bit harsh, albeit true. This notion has been around pop "science" and movies and is not a fact, but a myth.

This myth was debunked time and time again. I won't prolong with explanations, you can read it all here:

No but seriously if you actually think you have super powers just do your tests with thermometer or something.

If the heat rises by a few degrees without you touching it or breathing on it would prove that you are indeed moving energy outside of your body using your brain.

If you can do this you will not only win 1 million dollars but also maybe even a Nobel prize (provided you can scientifically prove it).

I'm getting more and more discouraged with these forums.  Whatever happened to the concept of polite debate instead of being so threatened by an idea that you have to attack people for discussing it?  Are egos so fragile here that this is the only way a few people can feel good about themselves?  Yeah, after having to walk away from multiple threads here, I'm getting sick of the snarky "I'm mentally or moral superior to you" attitude by some.

The 10% thing has indeed been debunked at this point, but it's an honest mistake.  It's a widely spread "urban legend" and I recall hearing studies being reported by the media that at least tried to support the theory.

As far as the second half of Anatriax's post, asserting that confidence has alot to do with success, there are plenty of studies that will support that confidence / belief is important for accomplishing ANY task.  GOOGLE it.

Telekinesis itself...  As I said, never been able to pull it off myself.  I know the THEORY though and that's what I posted.  Measuring it though...  The critics here are assuming that psychic energy falls in the electromagnetic spectrum.  And if the psychic energy IS converted to kinetic energy (ie movement) the only thing you need to measure is the movement.  Skeptics are why I recommended using a non-magnetic object by the way.

On the subject of psychic energy in general though.  Even the vast majority of skeptics out there (the honest ones anyway) will admit to experiencing the feeling of being watched or followed by somebody before they actually see the person.  Other forms of non-linear leaps in intuition are somewhat common too.  Hence the ubiquitous "I've got a bad feeling about this" saying.  SOMETIMES it can be written off as coincidence, but not always.  Some of the things advanced martial artists can do also fall into the category of not easily explained.  I've seen a martial artist in the SF Bay Area who could spear hand (finger tip strike) through sheet metal.  I have video of Bruce Lee hitting a 200 Lb heavy training bag with a side kick and blowing the bag wide open.  Bent it like a freaking accordion too, lol.

So yes, i *DO* believe the human mind is capable of more than making the body work and linear reasoning.

Oh and since it's a pet peeve of mine...  Let's talk about science.  Science has been completely screwed up for about 40 years or so.  Scientists twist the data to support their hypothesis nowadays, or typically more accurately, what their sponsors want the data to say.  Drug company scientists attack any form of natural healing as complete fraud to keep big pharma in business being a perfect example.  Oh and then most of the doctors get their continuing education requirements to keep their license by going to events sponsored by big pharma also.  In the mean time accupuncture has cured more bad backs than surgery and big pharma ever will.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not sniping at the people who made a few good natured jokes either.  Thee world can use a little more humor and after all, I've never been able to get TK to work either, lol.

I am not going to respond to your post fully for risk of somehow being mean again.

Just going to say I am 'sorry' and move on.

Btw, instead of discussing things like telekinesis or whatever why do you talk about something that everyone, even in the scientific community can agree on: Deja Vu. A lot of people have experienced this and yes me included.

for almost 1 to 2 hours I could pretty much predict exactly what would happen down to the last detail, the first hour I was losing my mind because it felt like I have seen all this before. In the second hour I was basically running around confirming everything I knew it would happen like running into the kitchen because I knew my aunt would drop the glass jar and so on.

There are multiple theories of why it happens but no one can recreate them and hence test them.

Yep, deja vu is considered an occurrence that can't really be reproduced under testing conditions, but we can agree that people experience this. And whoever started the argument about the 10% of our brain thing, yes that is completely and utterly false. Suppose popular myths spread fast.

Though I really do wish to stay on the topic of telekinesis. There are people who also claim to have experienced this, although it's not something that a sizable group of people can relate to as if it was deja vu.

At any rate, some people have had minor experiences of telekinesis, even though the distance of moving the object was very insignificant. Now  you are right that even though sometimes explainable things happen, we still want to find out why they do. I would like to know how we could reproduce moving objects at a more pronounced distance. I doubt we'll ever be able to make objects levitate, but being able to direct and displace energy from yourself to another object is a goal i'd like to achieve. Would be fun to try and get the object to move as well.

Posted

I really cant even take the subject seriously because unlike deja vu what you are saying is in the realm of big foot and area 51 greymen.

unless there is at least some proof. Not even scientific, but actual credible reports of something or anything happening then I might see it as more serious.

Not trying to be mean here but you got to understand the skepticism here.

There are instances of Deja Vu, or people getting bad feelings before a tragedy or a 65kg woman lifting the car up to push it away from her children.

Incredible feats all of them and impossible to recreate but they are so widely reported that they are accepted of the incredible things our bodies manage to do...

Yeeeeah.  It's a fun fantasy, but totally impossible.  The brain doesn't project anything.  "brainwaves" are just the byproduct of there being electricity coursing through your brain, just as there are spinewaves, or toewaves, if you wiggle your toes.

These "waves" are totally uncontrollable.  It is, in effect, extremely weak electromagnetism.  If you put electricity through a wire (or nerves) it creates a corresponding magnetic field.  Let me reiterate:  EXTREMELY weak.  Also your brain does not in any way resemble an electromagnet or solenoid in how it's wired.

brainwaves are detectible because of extremely sensitive sensors, placed on the scalp, (or in the brain) that measure electrical and corresponding magnetic activity in the brain.

Thought-controlled prosthetics and mouse-cursors for paraplegics/locked-in individuals are learned via trial and error--activating one region of the brain can be interpreted as an "UP" while another area can be "DOWN".  This has nothing to do with telekinesis.  These people are not thinking the words "up" "down" "left" "right" in their heads or even visualizing moving the cursor--they instead might be imagining running, for up, or imagining tasting raspberries for down.
