Skyrim number one best game?

Well, if it doesn't say anything about the actual number of owners, or even about the number of installations, then it's practically a pointless graph.

Treat it more as estimation than actual number.

For some reason few games are excluded from search for example Kerbal space program. I suspect that it is more to law reason than technical one.

It was free over that weekend

Good point, if they are counting installations via steam rather than purchases it being free would have screwed up the tracking.

It, does. Steam spy is not affiliated with steam. It takes data from publicly available sources (bots that scan users, statistics ect).

Ive checked several games compare with steamspy and they where rather accurate.

Official number of 20million all platforms released was 20million in june 2013 so its rather accurate it will be 25+ million by now or more.

At the time it was 5.8 million sold for PC so 8.4 million now seems also accurate dont forget nexus on few occasions had trouble because of reduced prices steam sales skyrim and many new players bought the game.

Skyrim is by far most popular RPG of all time. At least in west.

Out of curiosity what are the figures for Baldurs Gate 2 Shadow of Amn + Throne of Bhaal?

PC gaming was less popular when it was released but was also nothing else really about at the time until Dragon age origins came along and if not skyrim i would have thought one of those would take the place as most popular

Skyrim without mods was pretty good..first time I completed a vanilla main quest with a fully vanilla game.

I think what makes Skyrim popular and any elder scrolls game really is the mods that people make. If CD Projekt Red decided to make a game very similar to Skyrim I think it would be far superior than anything Bethesda could do, I mean they already showed that to me with what they were able to achieve with the Witcher 3.

Saying that though I don't really have a number one game, I've played alot of games and they all appeal to me in different ways.

Mods are the only reason why I've played Skyrim for more than 24-48 hours. Without them it's mediocre. Too much fun stuff was cut out, especially spellmaking, Morrowind style enchanting and attributes.

So big fat THANK YOU to all the modders out there. You turned this boring piece of crap into something playable and enjoyable.

You know, I really don't see what the fuss is about with these 'Best Games' lists. Everyone has their favorite ones, and their own lists for what they play and enjoy the most. So what if I have my own personal tastes in games like HL2, Borderlands 1 and 2, the Torchlight series, and of course the Elder Scrolls/Fallout series. I happen to only play games that are moddable to a lesser or greater degree, mostly due to the fact that I don't like throwing away money on games that have a low (IMO) replay value, ones that bind me to just one single character, or forced linear gameplay. Even lengthy cut-scenes and extreme 'dramatic license' are, at best, an annoyance to me simply because my own imagination is quite extensive (and I can usually come up with a better, more immersive storyline in my head while I play).

That being said, I have no interest in what others consider the best games out there, or what has sold the most. I play what I choose to play, and arguing about what I think are 'good' games is a useless venture. All my games have their own merits, and trying to choose between any will just be....futile.

Screw the Top Ten.  Frankly speaking, the Rabid Fan lists can all disappear into Gehenna's Maw for all I care....
