I have this exact same issue atm - a console workaround fix would be much appreciated until the bug is fixed (ie which stages to set, etc)! I also got this bug by collecting the journal before talking to the questgiver. Which quest was that? The Mage quest or the Blacksmith quest?
Sumher Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 In the mage apprentice quests i have done everything that Farengar asks except i cant find the apprentices body in Helgen caverns. i found a short trail of blood that lead to a spider in the bear cave section but thats all i found i have been wandering the caves trying to find the corpse but without any luck
jbezorg Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Re: The mage apprentice quests.I'd avoid putting quest goals at Helgan. Too many mods edit it. Live Another Life, Helgan Reborn, Cursed Loot to name a few. Then there's the patches that try to make things work together. Had to toggle collision off to make it to the quest goal because hallways were blocked while passing Stormcloaks and Imperial Soldiers who were standing still, drinking ale ,and sweeping the floor instead of being dead.

Thanks for the feedback... I will move the book to a corpse outside the city walls. 1
jbezorg Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Going after the Ice wraiths I had a follower kill them as I watched. Got a ton a Ice wrath teeth but the quest did not progress. The spawn point is 2 or 3 and only 2 Ice wraiths spawned.

I got lazy and didn't scan the player's inventory to trigger a change in objective when you get the count. If you look around the ruins, there are several hand placed teeth laying around. 1

Still stuck here until a fix is suggested Ok - I looked at the quest stages and it seems like all that is needed at that stage is to have mixed a total of 20 potions and enchanted a total of 5 objects. I added a display of the count of enchantments and potions in the menu for Dialogues to make it easier to track. The only other constraint in the quest stages is that you must not be the Archmage after completing the College quests, but you shouldn't have seen earlier stages with Farengar anyway if that were the case.
Siev Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 I am currently the archmage, I decided to do these quests after the college of winterhold. Right now there is no dialogue to advance the quest at all Maybe I became archmage after initiating the quest? I can't honestly remember. All I know is I was never able to give the book to him so it's permanently stuck in my inventory, and no option to progress was given after the potion and enchanting quests

Since this is a Mage Apprentice quest, I decided to make a lot of the quest stages first for beginner mages, with a goal to add separate dialogues or quest stages if you become the Archmage... the idea being if you are the Archmage, you are not an apprentice anymore That part of the quest isn't done yet, so the book will be in your inventory until I get to finishing it.

I was able to remove the book with player.drop <id> 1. I also tried resetquest, resetai, recycleactor, and disable/enable and it plays out the same every time - I tell him I found the book and he acknowledges it (but doesn't take it), makes me do the enchanting/potion parts of the quest, and then has no further dialogue options. Are you saying the quest is fully disabled if you are the archmage, and I was only able to do the initial steps because I found the book by chance? You might want to add some sort of placeholder text like "I have nothing to teach you" or something if so to prevent confusion.

That's something I didn't do yet because I have to consider all the possible entry points since the player may become Archmage at any point in the quest, so for now, it is unfortunately incomplete.
GeorgiaCav Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 It's been a long time since I updated -- just got the March 2020 version yesterday and it's the first one I've gotten with the Mage Quest. THANK YOU. That is exactly what I've wanted for years: a more immersive way of starting my character off weak and learning stuff here and there before going to the College. The only thing I'm not strictly in love with is the headache effect on potions -- I'm too early in the quest to know how this is handled, but I have Skooma Whore installed and after every encounter it seems somebody is slipping my poor girl some skooma. Right now the screen is pulsing once every few seconds and it is becoming a drag. (I always play with SW's visual effects turned off -- recently I added some skooma-dealing mod that puts a few back but nothing really intrusive.) I saw the hint about how to deal with it a few pages ago. I guess that's what I'll have to do. Great mod, thanks again.
RiotEnforcer Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 The mod does not show up in my MCM menu and no dialogue pops up for my master. Please help. - It is actually working now i redid my load order and removed some mods.
PubliusNV Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 In the mage quest, do potions and enchantments only count towards the total if Farengar sees you make them? The MCM for SL Dialogues shows that I've crafted 19 potions, but I've done far more than that. I'd believe I've only done 19 in the DragonsReach, but (because of FMEA) I have more than 20 spoiled potions that I crafted in Arcadia's, plus more that I've crafted successfully and sold to her. Edit: I went back to Dragonsreach and crafter two more potions in front of Farengar, but the MCM still says I've only crafted 19. How can I progress the quest? BTW, this is a new game where my PC has only been to Whiterun and Riverwood, so she hasn't even entered the College, much less achieved Arch-Mage. Another edit: I crafted several more potions in Dragonsreach and now the MCM says I've crafted 22 potions. So some apparently count and others don't, and I do not know why. Anyway, I now have additional dialogue options with Farengar, so I can proceed with the quest.
WhatRules Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Just started the mage apprentice quest and it's a bit confusing because you can start several tasks at the same time and they change the same journal entry. Since I can't enchant yet on my char I picked the potion task. I put them in one of the wardrobes beside the altar in the temple and I'm not getting an update on the quest. Then I can go back to Farengar, with the potion task still in my journal and ask "What else do you need help with?", and the enchanting task replaces the potion task. How do I even know if it was registered as complete? Do I have to help him several times to get an update or how does it work?
GeorgiaCav Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 @saltshade I don’t recall a “Completed” for every task. If you have a new dialogue option, the last task was probably completed. @DeepBlueFrog love love love the mage quest and the magicka changes. Playing as a mage without huge enchantment buffs finally seems feasible and fun. I got to Collette and a TO BE CONTINUED line, is that the end of the quest for this version? Or is there more I have left to do?

So the incomplete journal entry would get replaced by a new one. No idea how the mod checks if you have completed them.
FtmSimsLover Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Mage Apprentice Quest problem: I'm trying to do the quest to deliver the dagger to Arcadia. I did things in this order after receiving the quest from Farengar: read the Enchanter's Primer, unenchanted the Dagger of Cold, then enchanted Farengar's dagger. When I attempt to deliver the dagger, I am given no option to do so. I also have no option to ask her about teaching alchemy, other than to ask her for training, or to use the alchemy lab.

PubliusNV Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Very nice job on the mage quest. I'm interested to see where it goes after Colette if you choose to continue it.

Right now, I am at that stage with Collette. I am on the quest to go to retrieve the missing books by the lake near Riverwood. What I would like to do is inject more lore about the nature of magicka and reality, as well as putting my own spin on summoning. In the same vein as the new magicka system, I would like to make summoning more dangerous at first and more rewarding later. Initially, summoned creatures should have a higher chance to attack you, break free, not show up or show up wrong (or some Wabbajack-style random side effect). Once you master summoning, you should have a chance to better bind them, or summon improved versions of the creatures. Not sure I can pull that off but it would be fun to see that in action. Summoning creatures should fill you with dread early on 1
