Alien Isolation: Top or Flop ?

No point in comparing with Colonial Marines - different devs, diffrent game genre.

I didn't know that... Well maybe their is hope!

Devs, I might add, who haven a reputation for releasing unpolished, unoptimised and significantly buggy games on release, and whom also have no experience in the genre whatsoever. The latter might actually prove to be a strength but it's the former which is causing me to be cautious about it, especially after the ACM debacle.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about that, it is harder to make strategy game than a fps.

Anyone playing this yet? I must admit I went against my better judgement and pre-ordered it, as a few friends played it at Eurogamer and assured me it was very good. The reviews seem to praise all the kind of things I like in a game, so I gave it a shot.

So far so good. It's tense and atmospheric. I'm yet to find the Alien but I have to say I'm terrified. The buildup is very good and I'm dreading it, but in a really good way. I hope it delivers when the time comes!

Well, from what I've read ... it seems a bit too unfair, wit hthe Alien immortal and popping up in rather unfair and unpredictable ways, which you might like or not. The enviroments are also praised for their atmosphere. But somehow I am not really convinced. It might be too much like amensia for me: As soon as you figured out how the "Alien" works it loses all of its fearsome charm...

First i read many reviews for PC and watch some videos played with PC.

That was positive.

Next hurdle for me was launch DLC why i was not concider buying the game.

Then i walked in my town saw in gameshop Isolation with DLC version for 39'99 euros and tought hey thats cheaper then steam and DLC so i bought it.

Now i hope it's as good as most reviewers and gamers say?

You have to play it with headphones. The ambient sounds and the music is just terrific and I find the suspense sometimes overbearing to the point I have to stop playing for a short while. Finally a game that puts the Xenomorph where it belongs - in the realm of the "perfect organism" - rather than some dumb animal you can just shove away with the butt of your rifle.

EDIT: Removing my original post...

Lets not talk about ME3... that will only derail the thread even more. Still curious what people here think of the game, who actually played it.

Oh man oh man, my thoughts about how I would dispose of that one son of a bitch alien stalker - terrifies me. After few hours of game I hate him :D

I have one issue with this game, human AI is shit. (played on normal)

And from when androids and alliens are friends? Once android started to choke me, then alien run in, it shake off android and eat me, WTF :D

DLC - are fine, no rewards in game, they are just additional (separate) mini campaigns.

Just finished it. I thought it was amazing. It is unpredictable and I for one didn't think it was too long, which is a common complaint. A few minor bugs here and there, which is impressive given CA's track record.

Now to see whether the DLC is worth it...

Exactly the problem i had with Amnesia, lost all it's suspense at that moment. Still, it's the stealthy alien, the original monster under your bed and every shadowy corner. How could i not buy this game? Especially since it apparently is not an unmitigated disaster :P

It has to be pretty amazing to beat my favorite alien game though, Aliens vs. Predator 2 2001.

me3 was a good game 95% was great the other 5% sucks

That 5% being the plot-armored one-hit-kill space ninja  Well, okay, let's say 2%. But between Leviathan and Citadel DLCs, who cares ^_^

Yes, AvP2 was awesome, especially the Marine-Campaign of course (though nobody will ever make it plausible to me why Frosty has to go into the dark alien-infested tunnels of death ALONE while the rest of teh squad sits happily in their APCs, sipping cocoa and playing cards...Semper Fi my ass!)

And yeah, good to read a lot of positive stuff...I personally am not that convinced with the game, not enoguh at least to play it for fullprice, though probably I will play it one day after a Steam Sale.

Also I hope the success of this game will bring us a new try on how an Alien-game should really be: Marines, pulse-rifles, smart-guns, hordes of xenos and no hope of survival...just make it GOOD this time, damn you! Game over man...

It is a good horror game. The fear is real when you walk slowly around Sevastapol trying to avoid that Alien. And the mechanics are great too, you have your motion tracker which makes it easy to spot the Alien. But it might spot you too because of the noise level of the motion tracker. I really like such small details.

The games graphics, environment and atmosphere is top notch and it really sucks you in. Seriously it cannot be understated that this game is GORGEOUS, probably one of the best looking games I have seen in a while and it runs smooth as butter.  Gameplay CAN get repetitive at times as the game is a little overly ambitious and stretched out too long to justify the $50 price tag but it's still enjoyable and the alien always keeps you on your toes, even in the end game. I don't think many horror games can keep that dread going for an entire game but I think this game achieves that. Also have to mention that the sound design is incredible and nostalgic, only bad thing is the voice acting is suspect at times. It's not bad voice acting by any means it's just odd sounding at times.

This game is definitely a worthy follow up to Alien and should for the most part erase the pain caused by Colonial Marines.

Well said, I couldn't agree more with this. The game is awesome in any way but with 1or 2 bad things, but nothing is perfect.

Some people described it as a duck simulator, but it's got some pretty good reviews too, and since I consider Scott's Alien being the best one, I'll have to play this one day or another... most likely another when I take a look at my backlog *sigh*

Absolutely "love" it! Massive fan of the Alien series, and this game hits all the right spots.

Felt so powerful when I got a revolver.... until the Alien popped up and I freaked out and shot it... seeing it sprinting at me and having no way of escape makes my belly tingle.

Only thing is that I have to take breaks when my nerves get too fried lol

Same...this game looks fantastic from everything that i've seen of it. Some say it is too long, or the pacing is off, wither way this is a game i'll pick up in the coming months once my backlog has shrunk a little.

So my thoughts on the game are this:

Being a fan of the series since a child, and after playing that horrid A:CM, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Luckily I have a top-notch headset for my PS4 and it definitely added to the experience. I think I could of played on Hard difficulty however. I often found myself overstocked with items, that I had my components ready to craft if I ever used anything. My one and only gripe, and to avoid spoilers I'll make it vague but clear to those who've played; the explanation to all the missing people leaves you in the dark. I was surprised and grateful the game kept going just when I thought I was done, and that was the game's halfway mark. All in all, great buy for anyone who is an Alien fan.
